Really enjoyed watching you work with this beautiful bowl. And especially your explaining what you were doing and why. I'm not a wood turner just yet, have a 2nd hand lathe I will be picking up from a friend who recently retired from working with wood and selling his equipment. My ultimate goal will be to own a Nova DVR lathe later on as I gain experience using the midi lathe. I love watching videos like yours putting this lathe to work creating beautiful works of art in wood! Thanks~~

Thank you. I wish you the very best. Your going to find woodturning is very addictive. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Enjoy!

This is the first of your videos that I've come across. I look forward to finding more. The bowl was very striking, but I think we have to credit God for most of that, but your workmanship certainly complemented His creation. We are fortunate that He made very few boring trees. See you in the next video. Greetings and best wishes from frigid NH.

I have a Nova Saturn DVR which is a 16"X24" lathe. The size works well for me. I've had this lathe for almost 10years and has been funtionall perfect. No problems. I use the swiveling head stock feature a lot. Very handy for inside turning. I'm very happy with this lathe

Great piece of maple 🍁, and good job on the turning tips. Any recommendations on a lathe about $5,000 price point? I'm looking at the PM 3520C, THE LAGUNA 2436, and just saw the Rikon 70- 3040 which really looks nice. Which one do you think is the best for the money?
@cscottbeach
@cscottbeach 2 года назад
I presently own the Rikon and highly recommend. I've heard only bad things about Laguna. No experience with PM. Call me if you like and I'm happy to discuss the Rikon 70-3040 with you. It is incredible and the last lathe you will ever want. Did I mention 30 inch swing over the bed.😉 I have a demo video on my channel. Call me if you like. 413-768-8183 Scott Text first so I know it's you. Thanks.

@@cscottbeach , Thank you for your reply. Its going to be a couple months before I pull the trigger on a lathe. I'm doing my homework now. I'm excited for you on your choice. It looks fantastic, and sounds beastly. I just stumbled on the Rikon 70-3040 last night, and watched every video on it that I could find. Don't be surprised if I take you up on your offer to discuss your experience with the lathe. Thanks again.....

Thanks for the great vlog. One question, the banjo lock bolt is forever getting lose, is there a remedy for this annoying problem?
@cscottbeach
@cscottbeach 2 года назад
I use a non permanent locate. Anything but a lubricant.
@dozukime
@dozukime 2 года назад
@@cscottbeach Thanks from Belgium. But whats a "non permanent locate"?
@cscottbeach
@cscottbeach 2 года назад
It's a thread lock for different for levels of holding a nut. Brandname is "Loctite" Also maybe replace nut with a nylon nut.👍
@dozukime

@@cscottbeach Many thanks. The nylon nut option sounds good.

Really good video and presentation, beautiful bowl, everything excellent. I just don't like the lathe, everyone always points out that it has no belt and ignore the fact that if something happens to the spindle you can't just change the spindle because it is part of the motor which would be more expensive than just the spindle. To me that is a great disadvantage because things happen, bearings wear out and again there part of the motor. If I am wrong please correct me. Again great job without a doubt.

I appreciate the comments. My only reply would be in 13 years I've never had a problem with a Nova spindle or bearing. Or heard of one. I am a brute with a lathe I might add. Thanks very much for watching and the kind words.👍

Hi Scott, I've seen a few of your videos on your old Nova DVR. They no longer offer that model (2024?) but, as I'm sure you know, have released the Orion 18. Seems like it can do much of what I'd need, but in a less robust (and cheaper) package than the Rikon 70-3040. Just wondering what your thoughts are around the Nova lathes. I realize the Rikon is in a bigger class, heavier, bigger motor, etc, but seems like the DVR motors have enough power for fairly big blanks. I'm mainly turning 16-24" blanks. Thanks, and have a great day!

Hey Ben, I had the Orion lathe and it is a very good lathe. Definitely the best in that class of 18 inch swing and 2.3 hp. It is very beefy and very well built. I just wanted to go bigger.

By the way the 2024 was about half the physical size of Orion. Literally twice as sturdy. It is a tremendous upgrade. I did some serious floor walking with the 2024.

@@cscottbeach Yeah, I'd love to find a 2024, but it would have to be a used one someone is willing to part with, as they don't make them anymore
