Novak Djokovic: SMILING AT ADVERSITY - US Open 2011

Novak Djokovic's fantastic turnaround in the semi-final against Roger Federer, at US Open 2011, winning the crowds and the match with a smile.
At 3-5, and double-match point for Federer in the fifth set, he turned to the crowd and asked for... some love:) He got it, and then turned around the course of the game winning the game in tie-break, then equaled to 5-5 and then won the match by 7-5!
Only super-great champions are capable of such exploits!

This is hands-down the most badass moment in the history of sports. 20,000 people against you, the announcers declaring the match over, and one single shot to officially declare the changing of the guard from the Federer era to the Djokovic era. Simply unreal. You can’t write a script better than this.

To me, that return is the greatest moment in the history of tennis. Everything about it. The fact that Djokovic also defended 2 match points in the semi against Federer the previous year, the fact the announcers had pretty much declared Djokovic down-and-out, the way he milked the crowd afterward and smiled, how he went on to win the match and the entire tournament, basically capping off the greatest season in the history of tennis. This is the moment that cemented Novak's status as a legend.

Novak for his accomplishments throughout his career has met quite the hostile and disrespectful crowds time and again. It baffles me. He never got the love that Nadal and Federer get. He never truly got that. He was always the less favorite of the crowd when he played against them. Which kinda makes all his wins, all his accomplishments so much more incredible in my opinion. The crowd has never been fair to him. But no worries. Djokovic despite that, will eventually end up the best and most accomplished tennis player of all time. He is 31 with 15 slams... he is the only one to win 3 or more in a row 3 different times... the only one to hold all four at the same time. He leads both Nadal and Federer in their match ups. He won 9 out of his 11 GS finals... All his accomplishments were earned during the most competitive era of Tennis, against Nadal and Federer, something Federer had easy during his early days. Keep cheering against him... he is used to it by now. You cant stop the inevitable...

@@aol2134 "Inat" does mean "spite". Novak exhibits "prkos" which is "defiance". When we defy someone, we're trying to get on equal moral, social and economic grounds with them, i.e. we're trying to get equal recognition and rights for ourselves. Generally there is no malice involved, there is a show of self-confidence which is obviously supported by realistic capabilities (people confuse self-confidence with arrogance because it looks similar on the outside, but arrogance is when we are boastful without any data to back up our boastfulness). Novak has consistently showed defiance. Novak wants to be acknowledged as an equal to Federer and Nadal and he has demonstrated sufficiently that he deserves this acknowledgement. When we are spiteful, however, we're just trying to cause pain (following the principle of "an eye for an eye"), whilst not pursuing any goals of equality of rights and equal recognition. The goal is for the other side to hurt and to feel like they're beneath us and should submit to us, and therefore there is malice involved, as well as arrogance (a person thinks themselves as superior even though they haven't really shown consistency that realistically places them in that position). We can compare Novak's behavior to that of Kyrgios. Kyrgios, unlike Novak, hasn't done much to demonstrate that he indeed deserves to be considered an important tennis figure or a particularly praiseworthy human being, yet he goes on unleashing personal attacks against others trying to hurt them so he can make himself feel superior and better than others. That's "inat" or "spite". He keeps going, drilling and poking at people out of spite, because his ego can't stand that he isn't seen as one of the best players to have ever lived. He leads one of the best tennis players ever (Novak) 2-0 in match wins, he's tied with another best of all times Nadal at 3-3, and based on this he genuinely believes he is entitled to be called a better player than Novak or Nadal and thinks they are a joke, so he feels everyone else should think of them that way, so he keeps "campaigning" against them, rather than focusing on doing something positive for himself. For that reason, he hasn't been able to show consistency to the point where he would put himself in the position to play them all the time, in which case I'm confident his head-to-heads against Novak and Nadal wouldn't look like this, because both Novak and Nadal would've cracked the Kyrgios code. Spite ("inat") comes from delusions, defiance ("prkos") comes from reality.
