Beautiful music, but let me be a bit of a nitpicker here: Isn't there too much ducking/compression when the beat comes in? Or does the synth sound have so long an attack phase that it sounds out of timing?
You're probably right, I usually tend to go overboard with the Circuit's sidechain feature. Listening to it again, I might have taken it down a notch or two. Thanks for the feedback!
Wow. I just got the Circuit. Looking forward to making something as beautiful as this someday. Any tips on how to get better aside from the obvious "use it a lot"?
If you haven't already, pick up the Red Means Recording Circuit pack. I've found it to the be the most usable and musical of the packs I've tried. Buying a pack is a nice way to get a new set of sounds, but I really like designing my own synth patches on the Circuit. The Nova engine is surprisingly deep and complex, and you can get a really wide palette of sounds. In this track, an LFO is modulating the pitch of one of the synth tracks. The LFO shape is a gated wave with a unique pattern, so you can set the depth of the modulation to a musical interval and get some really cool sounds and rhythms. I usually have the first four macros mapped to the same parameters (amplitude/filter attack, amplitude/filter release, filter cutoff, and filter envelope mod), and map the next four macros to something unique to that patch. I would love to hear what you create with the Circuit! :)
@@PaytonCarterMusic Thanks for the info! You'll see two new Circuit videos on my channel if you want to check them out. Keeping the compositions simple but hope to try more complicated arrangements like yours eventually.
I started messing around with a DAW about two years ago, and got my Circuit 6 months ago. It took about two years of messing around with production for me to feel satisfied enough with my music to upload it to RU-vid. I'm a half decent pianist and took lessons all growing up, but never learned much about theory or composition. I don't find that my performance skills have a lot of transfer to writing music. It's been a whole new experience and an absolute blast; it's also required me to learn a lot!
