Yes I just got one myself.. still learning. The biggest issue is how to get back into a DAW with individual tracks --you can solo or mute the unwanted tracks then play them one at a time individually which is what I will do. USB Audio with multi track outs would solve that. Not sure if firmware can fix. The other issue you mention does bother me too-- Midi1 and Midi2 are essentially un-used for the most part (I have a Soma Lyra-8 going into the audio so that is fun but midi is dead). Would have been cool to call those tracks "sampler tracks" to load samples of any kind into-- even orch hits... then have a "shift" feature to make them external midi if needed. Not sure if that can be done with firmware but if it can, it would make this a total beast!
Great review! It would be great to have a circuit PRO that address all the cons you bring: chromatic sample flipping, multitrack audio over usb, 4 internal synths, long lasting battery. Would be another level.
Glad you enjoyed it. Maybe they will listen?! :) It seems they could do the 'assign MIDI tracks to internal synths' function as a firmware update. Maybe even the chromatic sample flipping. I think the other two would need to be a hardware update on a future MK2 or 'Pro' version. Thanks again for watching!!
I use mine with a skulpt and volca bass. So with 4 melodic tracks its easy to create full songs. Live jamming is what this is about. I have made many things that brought me such joy. I like thinking about new synths to pair with it. Honestly including 2 used volcas basically it's as good as you can get for under 650$
Good review, just bought one myself and enjoying it although still lost, it's my first groove box so finding my way still. One thing would be nice to have a closer view of the device, felt a bit far away to read the button labels and also colours look a bit off, hard to tell them apart compared to how it really looks. Just a minor gripe . Definitely agree with the assigning midi tracks to extra synth tracks , surely that's a future firmware upgrade.great video for only 24hrs use.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. You will have months of fun with your Tracks. It is a fun groove box. I can't wait to take mine on a plane soon. Thanks for the feedback on the lighting. My RU-vid skills are a definite work in progress. Thanks so much for watching!
For sure, but only after having external gear hooked up to do the midi recording in the first place I think? It is so close, but I would love if you could use all 8 tracks (internal MIDI assign?), then export those 8 tracks of audio and midi to a DAW to polish. In the meantime, I'll do that on my Digitakt. :)
I weighing up the pros and cons of getting one of these. I like the idea of doing music with out a DAW. Trouble is 2 synth tracks does seem a bit limiting but as a guitar player well I can only play 1 guitar by myself. I use an SDRUM for drums and that is kind of the same kind of limits. OK for jaming at home but it's not the same as playing in a band or multi tracking in a DAW with bass and drums. If the 2 spare midi channels could be used with the built in synths it would be great. Now I do have a Wavestate synth I could connect but then it is back to being tied to a desk to use it.
It is limited for sure. Ease of use is prioritized. Let me know what you end up going with. There are a ton of great options out there. Thanks so much for watching!
@@SURCOlive any of the synth or midi tracks can be played by external keyboard. The synth tracks and midi tracks can be assigned to any midi channel. There is midi out and thru, but you can assign the thru port as a secondary out. Now, if you have both ports set to out, the external keyboard will play notes into the sequencer of the midi tracks, but it will not play on the external synth. If connected to -thru, it will pass on the signal from the keyboard but not from the sequencer. The internal synth engine (tracks 1-2) will respond to both sequencer and keyboard input. Midi channels can be assigned from the setup "menu" but assigning midi ports (out or thru) must be done from a reboot menu.
To the people who always think this is a toy: Even the $2000 devices have colored lights, and you press them. DJ controllers for $3500 also only have sliders and colored knobs. It's all “toys”! If you want real instruments, you have to get a violin, cello, or saxophone.
