Using Aha’s Take on Me single in the Halley’s Comet WMAR promo was a nice touch! Especially since it was in its cassette tape quality from back then instead of today’s Dolby Atmos quality. Less than 4 decades does make a difference!

Thank you for doing this in the proper resolution. Your videos used to frustrate the hell out of me with those odd resolutions and parts of the original video cut off.

I enjoy seeing these old commercial blocks from Baltimore since I don't live far from the city and I used to watch WMAR as a kid.

Grew up in the city. My parents moved about 90 miles south to King George, VA. It amazes me during the analog TV days, WMAR was always reasonably easy to pick up that far away. Easier than the much closer DC stations. That channel 2 signal (was) probably the most powerful of the Television Hill TV stations.

I love that you included the static at the end. That's great.

I've heard Wayne Gruen's voice so much but until today never knew his name!

In 1981, after WMAR moved from CBS to NBC after a 34-year affiliation with the Eye Network, Wayne Gruen became Channel 2's primary staff announcer. He replaced longtime voice Stu Kerr, who was sacked.

Thanks, I always knew him as the "Channel 2 guy". The one man I'm interested in is WNUV 54's staff announcer from the "Your vote counts" era from 1989-1995, he had a "kinky" voice.

That's veteran announcer Doug Paul who was the voice of WNUV-TV 54 between 1989-95. He's the who did the "Your vote counts" era.

This was during sta.'s yrs. as NBC-TV Network affiliate (1981 till 1995). Since 1995 it's been ABC-TV Network affiliate, but from 1948 till 1981 it was affiliated w/CBS

WMAR-TV did not clear "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" in the Late Night lineup of the 1985-86 season, as then independent WBFF-TV (Now Fox 45) was airing the program. WMAR-TV is now the ABC Baltimore affiliate known as WMAR 2 (Formerly ABC 2), and is now owned by the E.W. Scripps Company.

There was a big network switch in the 90s. Before, 11 and 2 had a back and forth with networks CBS and NBC.
