wow your guide was awesome! just did this hike 2 weeks ago and it was brutal. it’s just too many stairs. rainbow mountain was more rewarding and an easier hike

Yes, sometimes, the edge is right there, and when you're not comfortable with heights, you don't know how you're going to react. Mostly, it was fine, because my feet were on the ground. I was reading about the 20L backpack max requirement. How much of a stickler are they for that? I have a 24L backpack. Adn also I'm seeing people in other videos with selfie sticks and hiking poles. Did you have to leave yours behind?

Hi Sunny, we left our poles and other equipment in our hotel's storage. This is what most will do. We didn't bring a selfie stick but did see a few others with them. There are park rangers and monitors everywhere, so it may depend on the day or time of year. Some months may be more lenient with the rules, and other more strick. I don't understand the reason for these rules; however, I would hate to have to leave my pack in a locker at the entrance gate and have to select only what I can carry. I simply invested in a cheap smaller pack that meet my carrying needs, like water, rain gear, sunscreen, and a wind breaker. Have a once in a lifetime time. Cheers!

Are there a lot of children there? My wife is worried about altitude sickness. My kids will be 4 and 7 when we go

Hmmm, I can't recall many children at Machu Picchu. Regarding the Inca trail - there may be a minimum age requirement because many of the steps would be too difficult for young children, plus lets not forget about the narrow ledges you must walk along. Regarding altitude sickness, try to spend several days in Cusco first to acclimate, Cusco is approximately the same altitude as Machu Picchu. It took Josee and myself a week to fully acclimate to the altitude, which was strange because we've spent 30 days in Bogota, Colombia- same altitude. There seems to be something odd regarding this area of Peru with respect to altitude. Machu Picchu is a once in a lifetime experience - Bucket list stuff! Cheers! 🍻

Supply of water is a must especially during daytime. During COVID, I went with my friend for biking 20 miles total and it was scorching heat on a July. Ok with 10 miles but the going back was hard for me because I round out of H2O ( lots of h2o in the car) and I am diabetic. Thought I can make it with 1 and half bottle on the way back and I was wrong. Water supply was cut off because of COVID. I almost pass out. RESTED A LOT Waited for the sun to come down . Now, I carried plenty of water. I’m preparing for Manchu picchu for August 2024, I’m packing water filter as well.

You are so correct, water is key! It sounds to me like you'll do fine, keep training, test yourself before you make it to Peru and you'll have a wonderful time. We were simply unprepared for the entire experience. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers!
