[Synopsis] During the Zheng dynasty, the Merfolk were slaughtered in the wide ocean of Novoland in search of a mystical pearl that could only be gained through the tears of a young Naga girl. As a result, Hai Shi's parents and the entire Yu coastline village were lost. During Hai Shi's most crucial moment, she met Fang Zhu, the imperial court's first official, and Hai Shi became Fang Zhu's disciple. Soon after, the imperial court of the Zheng dynasty devolves into anarchy, and wars with various countries erupt. Meanwhile, Emperor Chi Zhong Xu appears unable of maintaining order in his court and appears to be a self-indulgent monarch. But the persistent support from Fang Zhu allows the nation to see a new time of peace. Hai Shi then becomes the personal guard of the emperor and she starts to be interested in him, and some misunderstandings rise between them. When the emperor finds out that Hai Shi is a girl, he starts having feelings for her. Hai Shi will have to face her own feelings towards Fang Zhu and the emperor.

It must've been lonely. Her mother died,: Tilan, whom she considered as her sister also died, the emperor died, and her brother, Zhou Ying, is in the vast lands of the grasslands. The love of her life, Jianming, must once again be a baixi, and her dream of a peaceful life with him died along with Di Xu and Tilan. Shifu and Haishi's story is truly to love but not to own.

Agree with everything you've said😔 For the nation they've had to put aside their own dreams/plans to be with one another-and imo this is just as tragic as an ending where one of them ends up dying. As you've mentioned, Yang Mi's description of this drama's love story as 'Love but not own' is sadly, so accurate.

I like this ending. As empress dowager, she raised the young emperor. Her Master, Jian Ming, became the grand master of the young emperor. They can still visit. The boy was right. The grand master will be more than delighted to see her, though they lived apart. What a superb ending to a delightful story!

There needs to be a second season so we can see the young Emperor as he is older, we can see Shifu try and free himself from being his baixi and the Mermaid can cure the young Emperor of his heart condition, then our beloved Haishi and Shifu can finally be together, my godness they deserve it. Im so sad that Haishi has to live as a widow and Empress Dowager at such a young age and run the country, she has to spend the rest of her life lonely with no love and no partner.

Keep watching until the end of the last song , the feathers blown by the young emperor fly up to Jian Ming , I think it was the ending that the director made to show that Jian Ming is alive and well .

Some clarification about the ending as the translation says that eldest son of the emperor so it means haishi have 2 sons will in fact son of fangzhu as we all know emperor and haishi didn't sleep together at all so the really have a son and also raised in the palace as son of the emperor and also a prince as nobody knows about haishi and fangzhu relationships there fore its really a good and a happy ending I heard that because of censorship issue that the dint show the other son of haishi and also the limit of episodes only 40 but luckily they got 48 instead of 55 so many missing episodes as we just wish there were be season 2 regarding this matter really hope or at least specia episodes anyway best drama for me

She's not the empress. She's the empress dowager. She will reign until the young emperor is able to rule the country. If the young prince is 5 years old now, after 10 years he can become young emperor with the guidance of empress dowager. Haishi can chose to retire and be with her husband.

For those like me who don’t want to face this ending yet.. This drama ended in EP 46 - when Shifu FJM was healthy, true to himself and happy together with FHS, Emperor DX and Tilan were content and expecting a baby, Tilan’s brother was still a loving brother who wanted to be stronger and better for his sister and future kingdom, FZY was now Khan and widower (with an implied chance of being together with his lady love), and the kingdoms were all at peace… for my heart and sanity, EP 46 was the best ending for me.. that said, when im ready to face ‘this reality’, I’ll comeback and watch the last 2 ep in the future (or maybe not😆😅)

i stopped watching it in ep. 27, want to see the ending b4 i continue, now i thjnk im not yet ready or maybe ill do what you did, have to stop at ep 47 right? i prefer if both of them died or tilan and haishi lives and jianming and xu died. Its made me crazy thinking that shes alone in the palace raising a child by herself with the country in her shoulder and know that her lover s alive but cant be together. they should at least made it look like they still spend time together,i think i saw a cdrama where the empresses are having an affair with their adviser etc..

I think this will have a similar ending to legend of Phoenix especially were after years separated where she was in the palace 5aking care of the young emperor she was able to leave and find him when the emperor grew up. Plus weiyung blew the feather which to me shows his lungs are now ok. And the crane feather is probably also significant as it is used to represent lovers together. So that's what I think will happen. As soon as the emperor is able to stand on his own they'll leave together.

Perfeição de drama, eu já quero assistir tudo de novo, primeiro drama do willian que eu assisti e amei a atuação dele, a Yang mi já é minha atriz chinesa preferida, mas posso esperar pra sair Thank you, doctor! e She and her perfect husband, assisto tudo que ela faz, super linda e charmosa, nos dramas dela ela sempre se destaca mais como protagonista, quem falou mal desse drama não deve ter olhos, nunca vi tanta química, não superei ainda esse final, queria eles tendo filhos também, ela super merecia depois de tanto desgaste com o mestre. From the comments below it sounds like they cleaned the novel up quite a bit for this drama. Her Master might as well have been castrated in this version too as Haishi and him never really got it on. No surprise that the emperor is a serial rapist since that's what he did to Tilan as well as destroying her health by forcing contraceptive medicine on her. The writers tried to redeem him later in the story, but for me grief for his first wife did not justify this behavior.

It wasn't a good ending. because it didn't show the beginning of a long life together. But it's as if the drama has stopped telling the story before the end. because judging by the personality of the jianming it is clear that he will always protect her and will always be around. he did it the entire drama, and it wouldn't change for no reason. they always got together at the worst times. In the future (not narrated by the drama) this will likely happen sooner or later. The ending is changeable, but the characters' personality is not something that can be changed in later episodes. A man hesitates to marry, who has always kept his distance from women, and who finds the only woman who makes him want to have it all, a man who only thinks about protecting her, who always rushes to her rescue when she gets hurt. It's obvious that it doesn't make sense to make him disappear completely from his beloved's life, overnight, and she would never give up on him either. It is a difficult ending to accept because it is so incoherent.

As usual, Cdrama and tragedy. I would have been satisfied if Tilan and the emperor survived than for Haishi and Shifu. So many unfulfilled promises, at such a young age she is a widow with no child and boring politics to talk about. I feel for Jiaming the most. He wasn't happy and when he thought that he could be relieved from the burdened of being a baixi, he gets trapped again. This time is even worse. I even thought that the mermaid noticed that she was pregnant. I mean, she always wanted to have a baby and be happy. This is the last drama that I would watch.

Los que ya sabiamos sobre el final de la novela original, sabiamos que algo asi podria ser el final del drama, de alguna manera tenia que aplicarse el final de la novela original, pero es demasiado triste, Haishi quedo practicamente sola cuidando al pequeno y aun que Jeaming quedo como baixi y mentor del pequeño, por las palabras que el niño le dice a Haishi, se entiende que no se ven mucho, La muerte de Di Xu y Tilan aun me tiene deprimida. No creo que haya una 2da temporada, por que la historia se completo asi que encuentro incesario continuarla, lo mejor es que hubieran hecho quizas un capitulo especial extra, pero bueno, fue una gran historia y para mi el cdrama del año el mejor.

Listen... I'm not watching this drama when all the episodes come out🤣🤣 Im sorry but my little heart is having a hard time accepting that this is what their fate was. That this two people who sacrificed everything only to gain nothing but are still sacrificing.they could have at least had them together even though I know that would be going against their customs but with this type of ending its hard to even imagine they would meet up in secret because the way she spoke it's like they haven't seen each other in some time and man My heart hurting. This is an interesting drama tho...but some directors have not yet understood why LOVE AND REDEMPTION is still number one bcoz of the ending...after all Jianming and Haishi suffering yet they are not together and emperor Xu did not live to see his child..bcoz of the same child he grounded Tilan so to protect her and he did not live to see his child go.. please you guys should go and watch LOVE AND REDEMPTION and see what is a good drama series

I am glad it ended differently from the novel where she becomes the empress after becoming pregnant with the emperor's child. The novel is sooo dark and tragic compared to the drama.

Endingnya tragis nyesek banget, Kaisar dan Tilan meninggal. Shifu jg meninggal setelah ngasih ikatan boneka ke anaknya Kaisar. Haishi jadi ibu suri sekaligus ibu angkat anaknya Kaisar
