Should do a Then and Now next year for Trainspotting, showing areas where famous scenes were filmed and how much it's changed in 25 years

Great stuff as ever! And we are not just sitting watching, we are pausing and spotting the differences! 😄 Photo 1: the building on the right on the corner has lost a small rooflight, but the building joining that corner building to the many-windowed building up the street going away from us is different, and appears to have lost a storey. Its roofline is lower now. Photo 2: The ornate cast iron street lights are the same, but on a different side of the street. Photo 3: Looking at the size of the trees planted where basin at the side of the warehouse on the far side of the river was, the basin has been gone for a long time. How cluttered modern streets are: a jumble of poles and lamps and signs and, of course, traffic!

Always loving the now & then videos. On the first example, the yellow looking building to the right of the spire building, in the then photo, the yellow building had a chimney that’s no longer there and a small window on left side of roof that’s no longer there. So yea, an entire block practically unchanged. So cool!

Great episode as usual! We love these comparisons. We also think the 3rd photo is actually a sketch/drawing, which would account for the irregularities in the location of the beautiful lamp and the row of buildings beyond the spire.

I thought that as well. But on closer inspection I think it’s an old postcard photo that has been Dewan to on top in places to give more detail.

A lovely video. I lived in Leith as a boy in the early 50s and was often taken down to The Shore. On the sea side of the bridge (where the ship was moored in photo 3) there was often a Christian Salveson whaler moored. To a small boy it seemed so exciting. It's now a pleasure to return to Leith and walk around, something denied in this pandemic year.

Hard to believe this is only a short walk from the city centre....it's another world. On my to do list for next time, thanks Tony.

Thanks for the fascinating video, spent a few hours down there in august on a lovely warm sunny day and it was beautiful and your Edinburgh vlogs in general gave us a great insight of what to look for in the city, keep up the great work, cheers from Dumbarton!

The only area of Leith that I know is that very area on Commercial Street. Last visit my son, nephew and I poked around that area for a day and walked a good distance up the Leith the following day. Love the "now and then" vids. 👍👍👍

who hit the one thumbs down? It must be the same person who takes a penny from the "need a penny, take a penny" tray, when they don't even need one!

I love The Shore. My wife and I stayed at The Malmaison at the end of The Shore on our first visit to Edinburgh all those years ago. We had a wonderful time and still do to this day. By the way Tony, The Clock Cafe (the spire building in the corner next to the bridge) does a fab veggie breakfast if you want to treat Kirsten 😊

I absolutely adore these segments and then, Leith! it's where I always stay when in Edinburgh 💙 Lovely scenery, great people, small shops & restaurants, in a quieter pace than downtown in the city 😊 Thanks Tony, hello to the ladies of the house - love from Denmark 🌸💕

I went to Leith Academy and got the 1 bus. Memories of that river being tidal and stinking. They blocked it late 60's.

Great video again Tony, be glad when the world is back to normal and my wife and I can revisit, missing our annual get away! You're never stuck for ideas, but would be interesting to see a bit of history on Edinburgh during the wars, I believe Edinburgh and Leith were both bombed during both conflicts.

Amazing. I've been working from home for the past 8 months so imagine my surprise to see you filming where I work (the white building opposite the lampost you were discussing at 12:00. Yeah, lovely place but still prefer working from the comfort of home - for the noo anyway :-)

That’s one thing we noticed when we traveled to Scotland. correct me if I’m wrong. It seems like most of the time if they have to rebuild a building they trying and match to the original time period.

There is no hard and fast definition , but (many have said this [or paraphrased])' you can put a boat on a ship but you can't put a ship on a boat'.

Nothing to do with Leith-Edinburgh rivalry but I have never liked Leith . Very pretentious now a bit run down in the 70s . These old pictures of what it was like though. When it was a bustling port, what 1800s to the 30s?
