The great thing about relegation is that the season can come down to the last game, teams at the bottom may win the last game but have to rely on another team to beat another team to stay up, so usually people watching the game are also listening to other games happening to see what's going on, this also happens at the top with the winners but usually it's a bit more clear cut who is going to win the league much earlier.

Another great thing about it is it eliminates all the teams that are bringing the division down and it also makes players try harder as to not be that team regulated.. forces clubs to try to make their team better as well instead of just going through the motions.

@matthewchampion8214
@matthewchampion8214 4 года назад
It's kind of a dumb rule when you think about it. Especially when, like in the scenario you described, even if the goalscoring opportunity is extremely low you will still be awarded an unopposed shot at goal from 12 yards if the opponent commits a foul of any kind. I think in this scenario, the team should be awarded a free kick in the box similar to the one for backpasses
@rogeriopenna9014
@rogeriopenna9014 4 года назад
@@matthewchampion8214 In that case, it would be a good tactic to always commit such fauls. Bring your whole team to the box to help defend. While before the foul, while not a clear goal chance because the attacker had his back to the goal, you had 3 defenders and there were 4 attackers rushing in good positions to receive a pass and THAT would probably create a clear goalscoring opportunity.

@@rogeriopenna9014 You do realise referees have to that already right? Tried watching American football but every few minutes someone’s coming off the pitch and someone’s going on the pitch and every fifteen minutes they’re having a break. There’s too much stopping and messing about changing from defence or offence. A game must take ages unless they’re really limited to an hour’s game time. Not like rugby or 🇬🇧 football where you have your positions but everyone has to muck in with a sudden switch from offence to defence. That keeps the games flowing and adds to the excitement. And I find the whole USA cheerleader thing a tad offensive most of the time, especially the posing of very young girls, but I appreciate that these women want to be cheerleaders. In American women’s soccer, do they have men, suitably dressed, holding pom poms doing cheerleading at these games?

The reason offside as a rule exists is so that no attacking player would just hang out next to the opposition goal and wait for a pass to easily score. This makes the players' movement more dynamic and interesting.

For the offside rule, actually last defender is confusing to say. This as defender is typically not considered to be a keeper. Better to say at least 2 players need to be between you and the opposition goal at the moment a forward pass is played towards you. Typically 1 defender and a keeper, but could be 2 defenders as well.

Technically it is if you interefere in the game somehow when you are in offside position. Because offside is not fault per se, you need to activelly participate in the game to be punished for your ilegal position. Even if the pass is heading towards you. You can choose to not participate and the referees cannot punish you for your position
@Anson_AKB

also, the offside rule only applies in the opponents half, and never in your own. to understand it easily when watching (and not playing yourself), you need to know what shall be achieved with the rule and less the exact wording : teams shall not have a striker permanently located "on the goalie's toes" near the goal line, doing nothing but waiting for a very long pass. this should achieve more dynamic/movement and better strategies.

OFFSIDE - when the ball is passed FORWARD their has to be TWO players between the goal and the player RECEIVING the pass. If the pass goes sideways or backwards EVERYONE is ONSIDE. It can get confusing with players being in an offside position when a pass is made but not being considered to be interfering with play (they don’t touch the ball or obstruct a defender from making a play) so they are ignored.

Relegation is something vital to the game. I'm saying this as a Palermo diehard fan. We're the 5th biggest Italian city, and 16th in the perpetual Serie A rankings, so we'd probably be in in a hypothetical no-relegation Serie A. We had our good years in the top division, now we're in Serie C. It's gonna be tough, but we're gonna be back at the top. That is the beauty of football. You're wrong in thinking that the goalkeeper is relevant at all. They are talking about outfield players, which are relevant to the offside rule. Another thing that was neglected is the positioning is considered from the moment the ball has left the passing player's foot. So... If your player is behind the last defender (goalkeeper is a goalkeeper, not a defender) when the ball leaves your player's foot, AND your offside player interrupts play by touching the ball, that is offside.

Your legs, athletism, vision and any other thing are just the tools. It's like a game of chess between two coaches. The one with the better plan, tactics and the suitable players to implement them wins the game. There are counter attacking style of play, possession and counter pressing style of play and the defensive style... Of course there are variations. The offside rule is not explained correctly. A player is in an offside position if he is in the opposing team's half of the field and also "nearer to the opponents' goal line than both the ball and the SECOND-LAST opponent." You have to have two players between the attacking player and the goal. Normally you have the goalkeeper and one field player, but if the goalkeeper goes out of the goal line of for some reason and only one field player is between the attacking player and the goal then it's offside!

The offside rule is actually more complicated than shown here but for starters that is enough. The thing you mean is this: If you are closer to your own goal than the ball at the moment of the pass you can never be offside. If you think about the purpose of this rule it actually makes much more sense. It was implementet to prevent the strikers from wating at the oponents box. In that case the ball winning defender could just boot the ball up the pitch and the striker would have an easy opportunity to score. The game would be boring because complicated tactics and neat passing would be ineffective. That is also why the offside rule only applies in the opponents half of the pitch.

Offside makes more sense when you know why the rule was introduced. To stop 'goal hanging', goal hanging is where an attacking player(s), stay well over the halfway line behind the opposition defence waiting for the ball to be booted to him or her so they have a clear run/shot on goal, if you ever play football without the rules, this happens allot.
@leflake

The offside rule is explained as many people think it is, where the line has to be drawn where the last defender is, but the rule really says "the second to last player". Since the goalkeeper is mostly always on the goal, and the line is naturally drawn on the last defender, people tend to think the line needs to be drawn on the last defender, where in fact, the attacker needs to be behind two river players to be onside, not just one. If during a play the goalkeeper happened to go out of the box ahead of the defenders and a pass was made, the offside line would not be drawn where the last defender is, but where the second to last defender is, since in order to be onside, the attacker needs to be behind two rival players, not just one. Many people don´t know this.

The offside rule is a bit complex. It's only active for players in the opponents side of the field (the field from the middle line to the opponents goal) and when passing the ball to the front. So there is no offside on your own side of the field. A player can still stand in the "offside", but it is not considered a foul, if the pass goes sideways or back or if the offside player gets the ball passed by someone else than one of his teamplayers (like the opponent or when the ball unintentionally bounces of the referee). Furthermore, if you are in an offside position and a pass comes towards you, the enemy won't be awarded a free kick for a foul, if you don't actively go for the ball (like just let it pass and don't run towards it), so you can still be in an offside position without fouling.

If you score and make fun of the other team it's a straight yellow , if you score and take off your shirt to celebrate the goal it's also a yellow . In the case, however, that a player of a team sends that ball back to his goalie, and there is an opposing player beyond the "offside imaginary line", the offside rule will not apply. The only time is when a player is between the last defensive player and the goalie BEFORE the ball is passed to him, but perfectly legal if he gets in that position while the ball is already flying or rolling towards him. Finally, if a player is in an offside position but has no participation whatsoever in the play, nothing happens.

It's really simple once you know it. Ok listen, other than the last defender. If your team mate is running with the ball and you are both past the last defender, say two-on-one with the keeper. You must be in line with or behind the player with the ball for him to be able to pass it to you. If you are in front of him, you are offside. Oh and you can NOT be offside in your own half on the field. You can stand anywhere (even in front of the last defender) if you are on your side of halfway.

He defines the offside rule incorrectly. He is assuming the goalkeeper is behind the last defender which may not be the case. The offside rule is that the attacker receiving the forward pass must be behind or inline with the last two players of the defending team. You can pass the ball to another attacking player with none of the other team's players there as long as the receiving player is behind or inline with your team mate when they pass the ball.

offside is actually more complicated than explained here but it comes up so rarely you dont need to know the more complicated side so much. It's actually from the 2nd last defender, usually the goal keeper is the last defender, but if the goal keeper gets ahead of the ball, its actually 2 defenders that must be playing someone onside . Not many people who play and watch football actually know this part of the rule...there are even pro players that wont know this part of the rule. I only know it because I saw one of the rare times this actually comes into play, and a goal was disallowed even though there was 1 defender closer to the goal line when the ball was passed, the play had bypassed the keeper and he was trying to get back. Im 39 and loved football since I was 4 yrs old and I have seen a situation where this aspect of the rule came into lay once in my life and I have not just watched a lot but played a lot as well. So trust me its rare. I personally think its stupid and you will even find pro games where this aspect of the rule is ignored (as I think it should be) The rule was to stop people leaving an attacker in the goal area and just booting the ball up to him for an easy goal, so implementing the more complex aspect of the rule is not within the spirit of the rule being created in the first place (as is the whole daylight/level with defender debate)

Offside: you cannot trow a forward pass to a player when he is beyond two rival players. More simple, when the pass is trown(not when you get the pass) you always have to have two rival players infront of you or you are offside(the goalkepeer counts also). This doesnt aply when the pass is backwards, for example, hou got to the end line and the first player behind you is from your team, it is ok to pass it cos you are passing the ball behind your possition....thats the rule, dont get confused with the situations when it applies, is more difficult to understand it that way

In addition to the video: instead of getting a freekick after a foul or offside position, "advantage" can be given to the fouled team, so the play continues and the fouled team can use the advantage progress the play. But if you lose the ball only a few seconds after the advantage was given the Ref can still call the previous foul. Also cards can and will be shown after the advantage until the game is stopped again. Also the Ref can give a last warning to players before showing them a yellow or second yellow card. The substitution rule was recently changed. Teams can now make up to 5 changes.

In very rare cases, the goalie may be far ahead of his normal zone, if you are in line with the last defender but the goalie is not behind that line you still have an offside. I've only seen it twice.
@leflake
@leflake 11 месяцев назад
Yes, because the rule says that in order to be onside, the player needs to be behind two rival players. Usually the goalie counts as the first player, and the last defender counts as the second one. But if the goalie has gone up, then the attacker will still have to be behind two players in order to be onside, and in this case, it would be two field players, since the goalie cannot be counted.

Only 3 things (i think) you need to know about being or not being offside. 1, - 2 opposition players need to be between the person receiving the ball and the opposition goal line when a forward pass is played to him to not be offside, (usually the goalkeeper + defender, but can be 2 outfielders). 2, - The player receiving the ball must be behind the player passing him the ball at the time of the pass if there are less than 2 opposing players. 3, - Also you cant be offside in your own half of the pitch.
@phaexus
@phaexus Год назад
I think it's simpler to explain the offside rule by saying there has to be two players from the defending team between the goal line and the player receiving the pass at the time the ball is passed. One of the defending players is most often the goal keeper, but it doesn't have to be. Also, I think a player is allowed to be offside if the player isn't influencing the play, like is not touching the ball or in the way of other players.

Things they didn’t mention: 1 - After the end of the Champions League group stage, the 1st and 2nd place goes to elimination stage while the 3rd place in the group goes straight to the Europa League elimination stage (their European run ain’t over, 3rd place still has a shot at winning an European competition, unfair if you ask me), Europa League it’s like the 2nd division of the Champions League, a secondary European club competition. 2 - Winners of both Champions League and Europa League play against each other in a single game called European SuperCup (usually takes place in August). 3 - The winner of Champions League goes and competes against the Champions of other Continents, it’s a competition called “Club World Cup” and usually takes place in Asia. 4 - The winner of Champions League and Europa League are automatically qualified for next year’s Champions League (wasn’t like this till a couple of years ago).

To be onside when there are no defenders between you, your teammate, and the goal, you have to be behind the ball. So, two teammates can pass to each other, but one must be behind the other.

1:13 The "whole of the ball" meaning all 100% of the ball must be across the line. There are plenty of times where most of the ball is inside the goal (in a 3 dimensional, spherical sense) but not 100% of it. This is where goal-line technology is important as it uses radar to check whether the entire ball was inside the goal before bouncing back out or something like that. 2:01 This is probably the hardest part of refereeing in soccer. These tackles can be very very close in terms of being a foul or not and there is a lot of trust and authority given to the refs to make the call (which can be a big deal with a free kick awarded). No two tackles are alike so it's always a subjective decision for the ref. Some fouls are more obvious than others of course but there are a lot that are "up for debate." Players run differently, have different body types and sizes, move faster or slower, etc... Arms are flying and players are focused on the ball (usually) so sometimes a foul is just an honest mistake. 2:36 Stoppage time can be hard to understand at first but basically the clock never stops, even for small disasters like a pitch invader (a fan running onto the field while the game is going and causing the ref to have to stop play (but not stop the clock)). Injuries will stop play and of course free kicks and throw-ins stop play, but nothing will stop the clock. If the clock stops it means the game will be postponed because of bad weather or another disaster of that sort. So, since the clock never stops, the referee has to keep in mind how much ACTUAL playing time has been given to the teams and add "stoppage" time at the end of each half according to any stoppages/disasters that happened. It's usually 2 or 3 minutes. Sometimes 7 or 8 minutes. Very rarely is it more than that (if there was a pitch invader that took 10 minutes to apprehend, maybe). 3:15 This changed recently. Teams can now substitute up to 6 players during a game. Exhaustion and dehydration in hot summer months is the main reason they increased the number of substitutes. It also lets teams bring off or put on beloved players so the fans can give them a personal cheer/applause. And it lets younger players get a few minutes of playing at the end of games for that much needed top flight experience. 3:32 Handballs used to be more up-for-debate than they are now. The rules are quite clear now that literally any contact with the hand on the ball will at least be heavily scrutinized and almost certainly result in a free kick. Now there are times where it would be completely unavoidable for a player to be struck in the hand with the ball and those instances are the ones that are scrutinized. If a defender tries very hard to keep his hands and arms completely down by his side and even around his back, the ball striking his hands there is usually considered fair play since it's basically his body anyway. This is another tough rule for referees (and fans) to always get perfectly, along the same lines as fouls. (It's like covering your dick with your hands so the ball hits your hands instead. Who wouldn't do that?) 3:56 So the Honduran goalie actually moves off his goal line a little early here. The rule for penalty kicks is the goalie cannot move his feet forward (toward the kicker) until the ball has been struck (he can lean forward, certainly). Similar to how the offside rule applies to when the kicker actually kicks the ball, not before or after. This rule has only been more strict in recent years and you will see a lot of older games (even the 2014 World Cup) where goalies aren't as scrutinized. 4:11 You also cannot be offside when receiving a corner kick, a goal kick, or a throw-in. So you can technically "cherry-pick" in front of an opponent's goal when receiving a goal kick or throw-in but this isn't usually a great tactic as you'll be out of position (and most goalies are well versed in grabbing balls out of the air before you can even head them). 4:42 SECOND LAST DEFENDER, not last. The goalie is usually considered the last defender but sometimes (in weird situations) he is up the field. So if there is actually only a single "last defender" you will be offsides anytime you pass a ball forward in the context of there only being that last defender. 5:07 You can always pass to someone in line or behind the line of where the ball is sitting currently. So passing laterally (sideways) or a little bit back behind you is all fair game. That's why you cannot be offside if you're behind the player that passes you the ball, even if you were both right next to the opponent's goal. 1:34 The goal here is a good example of the attacker passing backwards (slightly) to a teammate to score a goal. No matter the position of any defenders, this would never be offside. 6:46 A team can technically win the league before May if they're have a really great season (undefeated for example (which almost never happens)). Since there are 40 games (20 teams, each play each other twice) for each team, if you win the first 30 games, you're probably going to be on top and it's possible that no other team would mathematically be able to "catch up" to your point total. Basically, at a certain point in the league (which usually is the last few weeks of the season, but can happen earlier) every team in the league realizes that one team has already won because no other team is close enough to them (in point total) to be able to win. Getting 3 points for a win is obviously really important. 9:17 He's underselling how big the Champions League is. It gained a lot more popularity in the 90s when it allowed more teams to enter. You can compare NCAA final's viewership of about 20 million to the Super Bowl's viewership of about 110 million to the Champions League viewership of about 380 million. The World Cup final gets over a billion viewers (nuts) but that's only every 4 years. Countries that have sent teams to the champions league include Scotland, Belgium, Norway, Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Croatia, Israel, Poland, Slovakia, Cyprus, Hungary, Serbia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Finland, Slovenia, Ukraine, Turkey, Russia, Greece, Netherlands, Portugal, France, Germany, Italy, England, and Spain. Unfortunately the richer and more popular countries and clubs are given easier access to the Champions League than smaller clubs and countries and the competition is starting to lose a little bit of it's "any underdog can win" feeling.

So the second video said there were no play offs and the top teams replace the worst teams from the division above, it's not true for most leagues as say a league as 3 teams going down, most of the time the top 2 teams will go up to replace them and then 3rd-6th will have a play off tournament at the end of the season to determine the final team to go up. So for instance in the English 3rd tier 4 teams are relegated so 4 come up from the fourth tier meaning you can finish 7th in the fourth tier and if you win the playoffs you can be promoted over the teams that finished 4th-6th

I recommend to you learning about the crazy worst to first story of Leicester City, it is something that is impossible to dream of. Considering the incredible amounts of money that the BIG teams have, this little team completely destroyed everyone with next to no money when compared to the giants of the English Premier League. I hope that there is someone out there that could recommend a good video where the whole Leicester City experience is explained, because I was not able to find one that was under an hour long. But either way, even if it is for self learning without the need to do a video on it. I recommend learning about the insane run by the longest of long shots that was Leicester in 2015-2016. A thing that these videos don’t mention as well is that in football there isn’t a draft of players like in NBA. In July-August there’s a 2 month transfer window and there is a 1 month transfer window in January. In these transfer windows a club can buy and sell players from and to other clubs. A club can make an offer to a club for a certain player they may want, and then the club who was approached can accept this offer, maybe make a counter offer and negotiate the price of the player, or just completely deny the offer if they won’t sell the player. If a club accepts the offer or come to an agreement of a sale, the buying club then proceeds to contract negotiations with the player where wage, duration and role can be discussed. If they reach an agreement the player moves to the new club, if they don’t reach an agreement, the player doesn’t move clubs and stays with the current club he’s at. Of course it’s not any club that can get any player as most of the good players in the world cost a hell of a lot more than what the lesser good clubs even have to use. The transfer windows can get a little crazy at times with basically all the clubs in the world buying and selling players to improve their squad.

In America you have 3-4 Major sports so you have lots of 20 thousand plus capacity stadiums i.e. NFL stadiums, Baseball stadiums and Basketball stadiums (even college sports stadiums but if you travel the rest of the world the only sport that has big stadium capacity (over 20 thousand) are Soccer stadiums because football is the only sport that can fill stadiums of that size. For example England, Germany, Spain, France, Holland, Brazil, Argentina, Ghana etc (effectively most countries) do not have a second sport that can regular attract more than 20 thousand supports. England has three major sports.. Football, Rugby and Cricket and the average attendance for Football matches are about 40 thousand. The average attendance for Rugby is less than 10 thousand and Cricket matches struggle to even attract one thousand supporters (surprising but true). In fact if you go from country to country and google the second most popular sport, you will find very few countries have second sports that have attendance figures that come anywhere near the attendance figures for Football, America is truly unique in that department. Pretty near all the countries of the world only build stadiums with a capacity of more than 20 thousand if its to host football matches only. To give a little more context. There are a lot of big stadiums (50 thousand plus) all over the world. The UK alone has over 10 stadiums that can hold 50 thousand or more. Germany has about the same and Spain and France have about 5 or 6. Many more countries have stadiums of 30 and 40 thousand capacity and pretty near all (95%) are soccer specific, because only soccer can justify stadium building of these sizes..

That's because people always jump on the wagon to explain WHAT it is instead of say WHY it is in the game (So that a single player, most often would be striker, doesn't 1v1 the opponents GK all the time and defend with 1 player less) That's why basketball also has the "backflip" rule, ie all players must cross half court while opponent has the possession (otherwise would be 4v5 and 1 guy to score layups all the game) And ofc, defending as 9v10 is much easier than 4v5 so the "one guy would score all goals" would pay off even more if there wasn't the offside rule in the game

The way the offside rule is described here is incorrect, he said past the last defender. That is wrong, the rule is the 2nd last defender. That includes the goalkeeper. It would be unusual for the goalkeeper to be further outfield than the last outfield defender but it can happen and in that case the Goalkeeper would be the 2nd last defender.
@dc013
@dc013 4 года назад
Ok, so, offside 1 - If you and your teammate are going in on a 2-0 breakaway and your teammate has the ball. If your teammate passes it to you, you must be equal to, or behind the ball when passed. 2 - The guy said 'last defender' which is true, but also a bit misleading. The requirement is actually 2 opposing players between you and the goal line. They usually say the last defender as the goalkeeper is usually behind that player. But, in some cases, a goalkeeper may not be between you and the goal line, meaning if you were in line with the last defender, you're still offside. So, 2 guys between you and the goal line when the ball is played. - One exception to this rule, if you are on your side of the halfway line, then it doesn't matter if there are any defenders between you and the opposing team's goal line. 3 - You cannot be offside on a goal-kick, corner kick or throw-in.

In Germany we have a slightly different relegation system for the first three leagues. The 1st and 2nd of the 2nd Bundesliga get promoted to the Bundesliga as well as th 18th and 17th of the Bundesliga get relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga. However, the 16th ranked team of the first league plays to matches against the 3rd of the 2nd league to determine who gets the last remaining spot in the 1st league. Whoever wins the two matches combined will play 1st league in the next season. The same applies for the bottom three teams of the 2nd Bundesliga and the top three teams of the 3rd Liga. two teams go up or down directly, the third team has two relegation playoff games. That way last year three teams were promoted, while this year there were only two promoted. But what happens if after both games there's a draw? Easy! Since you play two matches - one on either team's home pitch - the team that scores more goals as the away team wins. If that is tied, too, there will be 2x15 minutes of overtime and, if that doesn't give you a winner, a penalty shootout. For example in this year's season Werder Bremen (Bundesliga) played 1. FC Heidenheim (2nd Bundesliga). in Bremen there was a 0:0 draw, in Heidenheim there was a 2:2 draw. So combined it was a 2:2 draw. But since Werder Bremen scored their two goals in Heidenheim as the guest team, they won overall and stayed in the Bundesliga, while Heidenheim stayed in the 2nd Bundesliga.

the explanation of offside is kind wrong. the fact is: the player, in the "attack" half of the field (if you (who recive the ball) are behind the line in the half of the field, in the side your goalkeeper is, there is no offside), have to be at least 2 opposite players between the player who recive the ball and the goal. usually, the goalkeeper is near to the goal than the player attacking, so just need one more defender between the attacker and the goal, OR the player who recive the ball can be behind the line of ball. so, have to be 2 opposite players between the reciver and the goal or the reciver have to be behind the line of the ball. the moment that rule applies is when the pass is made, not when is recived. so, when one player touch the ball to pass to a companion, this is the moment that rule apply. so, if the player is running, there is no problem to recive the ball with just one or no one between him and the goal, but in the moment of the pass, he have to be behind two opposites or the line of the ball. the exeption is in throw in. in throw in there is no offside. or if you recive the ball from the opposite team.
