Oh, yeah.. Thats a "must have" on every table saw.. I included this addition right away, when i built my homemade table saw. (video on my channel).. I also added a built in light. No more saw dust in my face. And it makes the saw much safer..in case of Kickback.. Well done, my friend. Subscribed and greets from Germany.

It works really well. Just pay attention: when you set the acrylic box close to blade side, you must keep in mind that the long arm oscillates a little bit, doe to vibration eccetera. My dad severely injured in a quiete similar way. A loosen screw let the protection hit the blade that literally shot it like a bullet, hitting and breaking his jaw from side to side so he also lost a tooth because crack occurred right in the middle of its “saddle”.
@crossgrainwoodproductsltd9230
@crossgrainwoodproductsltd9230 Месяц назад
OMG!! I hope he has recovered from his injury!. I once had a small strip of wood about 1/2" square get kicked back at me and it hit my lower abdomen area. It left a nasty looking red mark and bruise for months. If I hadn't been wearing a leather belt at the time, I'm sure it would have impaled me. I see so many woodworkers on here that remove the riving knife, and that's when accidents occur. The saw I was using at the time was my uncles and I was helping h cut out pieces of burl for the dark of an old Dusenburg car when that happened. It was a beautiful old Unisaw, but he had lost the riving knife at some point. After that happened, I made him a riving knife out of steel. I found the exact dimensions online for it. You have to be vigilant at all times when operating such powerful machines!!

@@crossgrainwoodproductsltd9230 Thanks for sharing your experience. I told myself I’ll never buy a table circular saw, because I must admit I’m pretty distracted or not so concentrated at least, so, once I’m retired, I’m going to buy a cnc laser and make something out plywood and veneers…pretty limiting, but way more safe.

Intelligent build, Safety - dust & blade guard in one. Have you though of adding brush strips to the sides like they have on CNC machines? Might make it a bit more airtight...
@carpentak
@carpentak Год назад
thank you. I don't think the brush you mentioned is necessary for mine. There are very few gaps between the wood and the guard. It is about 1mm or 2mm. That would be useful if you designed it to avoid adjusting the height of the head.

Inspiring. You're turning a job site saw into a Harvey table saw. Ya know, you can buy a Harvey table saw with overhead dust collection and a pro-level miter gauge starting at $1749, and a fully configured 4HP saw with left & right extension wings, extension tables, and a tin coated top for $3899. But what fun would that be, right?
@branchandfoundry560
@branchandfoundry560 5 месяцев назад
I have the 4hp Harvey Alpha TS. I'm watching this video because its dust collection is not great (on many levels). In fact--although I like the saw overall--it feels like there was zero "Use Case" analysis in its design. Several areas needed refinement and modification for smooth operation. Not trashing the saw, just saying it is by no means a well-sorted piece of equipment as released to market.

Since my studio is small, I sometimes have to change the position of the table saw. So I made the table saw moveable and also clamped it to the side of the table saw to move with it. Since my table saw is portable, I cannot cut large sheets in the first place. So there is no situation where a pillar of this would interfere with my work.
