The long awaited 1st part of a 3 part episode featuring Jonathan Sherwood and his incredible collection. I'm going to apologise now for not filming every bike in the collection or discussing every bike in the collection. Time just got away from us while filming and talking about the stuff we did film and talk about!
Jonathan Sherwood was raised in South Africa before eventually relocating to the UK. His collection is inspired by the bikes that he and his friends rode in SA and the bikes that caught his attention in the magazines that he was able to get hold of in SA. No mean feat in itself! In this episode, we talk about those early days of riding the the race track, hitting the jumps and then maybe some street on those bike that designed to do it all. We talk about collecting in the beginning and how it's going now, the bikes and companies that led the march towards rider designed bikes as well as a bunch of other stuff.
In episode 4.1 we'll really get stuck into some of the bikes in Jonathan's collection with lots of gratuitous footage and of course some commentary on said bikes.
Jonathan can be found on Instagram as @sirmerlin and on the BMXMuseum as midschooljon if you want to see more...which I'm sure you do!
Don't forget, you can check out more of the music by the Rodians who's music has featured in every episode of Now That's Midschool, here on RU-vid at ‪@therodians‬ , Instagram with the same handle and The Rodians over on Spotify.
If you like what you see, spread the word with a share, give us a thumbs up and hit the subscribe button to ensure that you don't miss out on other videos (especially the next two with Jonathan!). Speaking of which, the next episode should be up on Saturday 17th of June this year with the final installment appearing a few days later, so stay tuned!

Ive said this numerous times, Jon is the best midschool bike builder in the world. He has a mighty collection, and his attention to detail is second to none. Ive taken so much inspiration from him, and to top it off, he's an awesome bloke. Thanks for showcasing his amazing collection

Having seen the collection with my own two eyes, it would be hard to argue against that opinion, Gordon. They were exquisitely executed to say the least! We take a much more closer, detailed look at several of them in episode 4.1. Have a bib ready for the drooling! Haha!! And yeah, a top bloke by any measure!

You mentioned the 1999 S&M Challenger. I got and rode one of those for a year when I started riding trails again (2014-2015). It is actually super comfortable! The geometry is a little relaxed (more stable) and the 5 lb. weight is pretty similar to what's around today.
@nowthatsmidschool
@nowthatsmidschool Год назад
Yeah, trails geometry hasn't changed that much for dirt riders, where the key word is "stability". If it ain't broke, don't fix it! 🤘

theres a bike shop here that is selling midschool shit for the original sticker price. Set of hella nice dk 1800 collect frame pads for 20 dollars, next to garbage new SE pads for 39.99 My buddy bought a barcode for 250. last summer. I dont know how he does it but he knows what he's got, and just lets those who know, have at it.

Oh man! I'd love to have visit that place! They're still out there I guess. Bike shops that used to sell BMX strongly but not so much now. They focus on the big bikes but have back rooms with old stock from back in the day and it's forgotten about. The US must have hundreds of shops like that. Tucked away in little towns.

I don't know man. I thought the sound would be fine in an enclosed space like that and so didn't use the mics. Doh! There's a few other areas that I kick myself about too. I've got a couple of names but nothing solid in the books yet. I guess I'll just have to ride more! Haha! Thanks Keith! 👊

My parents saved up for my birthday and Christmas to be able to give me one big gift. They gave me a pearl light blue Schwinn Predator Freeform EX 1986 with the white skyway mags, cobra grips. Someone stole it the very next week. I was a CRUSHED 11 year old girl. Broke into my basement garage and stole it.

That's horrible! Especially given the lengths your parents went to to get you a gift as good. One thing hasn't changed though, and that's people out there who want what you have and will take it with no remorse if opportunity's presents itself. I think most, if not all of us have been effected either directly or indirectly by such acts and there's no getting away from the fact that it's horrible! My brother and I were working on building site back in the day. About 1999. My brother had picked up a brand new Mongoose Sniper from the nearby bike shop, on behalf of his neighbour. We stored it on the building site (inside an existing building refurb) and someone must have been watching. They came on to the site, looked for and found it and then peddled off. That too was going to be a kid's Christmas present. We ended up having to pay for it ourselves. As kids ourselves, there was always a bike going missing in the village, it seemed. 😞

@@nowthatsmidschool No matter how old you get, you still want your bike back. Thank you for the response, it was really cool of you to write back. I'm riding a Zebra Intense 2008 Pro Xl decked out in SINZ. I have no idea how much it's worth but the mini of the same bike in Zebra paint, only the frame with no forks is selling for 1,500 online because it's so rare. I only paid 100 bucks for it, but the folks had no idea what it was when they sold it. I don't know, I'd rather have my Schwinn back. Just something about that Schwinn with the bent seat post...you could ride a wheelie for DAYSSSS. Take care, good luck on your channel and best wishes from Birmingham, Alabama. I have a 2002 Mosh Method 2 Star Junior too on alexrims vp15. I trade both of those bike for an 86' Schwinn. Without hesitation.
