In this video, Phil shows how to install the new MGC 4x4 magnetic core kit from Hexacubic Designs! This kit is designed with ease of installation in mind, as it is the first on the market to have a snap-on installation process that requires no disassembly of the core. If you do plan on using tape to assemble your 4x4 use painters tape/blue tape. This prevents stickyness being left on the pieces.

I really hope the next moyu 4x4 will have core magnets. I still main the WRM because I really like that cube, but this kit might be a compelling reason to grab an MGC.

Cube solve hero have an amazing and easy method of assembling a 4x4. You don't need tape or anything if it's magnetic

The magnets don't create enough repelling force to have a stable cube without severe tightening or really strong magnets, which would make it a brick

@@LachyLachy55 Magnet repulsion increases with the shortening of the distance way more drastically than springs. This means that with regular magnets there would be a stability issue, and if you try to absolve that issue with very strong magnets, it would feel like a brick and be very slow. I know it will be done eventually, but I don’t see it creating something good with today’s 4x4 core technology.

I've been cubing for quite a long time and I even built torpedoes for my skewb with Lego and super glue back in the day. But, I don't know... gluing stuff into a competitive puzzle in 2023 just doesn't feel right to me. Especially with a kit that costs more than the original cube itself.

What would be your solution then? Its just a hollow indent in the corner. I'm sure its not possible for them to make a perfect copy of an mgc corner with the magnet pre installed or something. Probably potential legal issues there as well. There is nothing for the magnet base to clip onto the corner so that's out of the question as well. Honestly I can't think of any other solution than a bit of superglue and I don't see the problem with it either. This is a mod, not an official add-on. Mods require physical changes to the puzzle and this is about the least invasive mod there is other than added magnets to edges or maglev. If you really wanted to not use glue you can use a small drill to try to make the same thing gan has in the 12 corners but that seems worse than glue.

I dont think that core magnets would help that much, the cube is too risky when it's loose and I think that the Flagship Cubes are stable enough
