Oh..tony sando..Thank You..for uploading!!! This is a wonderful video!! I saw Louis and the All Stars with my parents and younger sister when they came out in 1954..I was 5 years old!!! I grew up with Louis on the Gramaphone (!!!) with Mum playing his 78''s!! I had a crush on Trummy!!! I loved his playing...the sound of his trombone..We were at the 1954 concert at the Stadium in Rushcutters Bay, Sydney and as Trummy came down the aisle, he spotted Dad and my sis and I..(Dad had met them the night before in the Sydney muso's club and got Trummy's, Arvell Shaw and Billy Kyle's autographs for us!!) and, I remember it as clear as day..Trummy leaned over to speak to Gin and myself..and asked us ""Are you young ladies enjoying the show?""..Well..He was simply..lovely!!! Mum called out for ""More"" after Velma Middleton finished singing..so, naturally, I got up and yelled for ""More"", also..Thank you, Mum! As a singer, and a Mother, you gave me a lifelong love of all music, especially my favourite..Jazz..!!!
When I was 16 in 1956 I had the fantastic opportunity to actually see Louie perform in person at a concert at Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana!!! A memory that has remained and inspired me for the past 66 years!
I too was 16 in 1956 and can remember when I was about 14 my older sister's boyfriend would every Friday night visit our house bringing with him his collection of 78rpm records among which were many Louis Armstrong tracks. What an experience. I was hooked for life.
@@DanSweden How nice to hear your story! She saw Duke Ellington there!!! How much I would have loved that! Yes, they had the cream of the crop artists perform there in those days! Thanks for sharing that.
I mutt not say mutt cause he's straight above and beyond purebred I thought it was going to FUBAR here and my son told me there is new adjective of his choice tissues made by oopsies corporation and he was concerned about his brother then I repeated oh where we gonna buy "fucking" tissues? He said did I say that and I said which teacher taught you that word? Excuse me I'mma call that school and Mrs Michauxs lightfoot Lonnie Ray Leonard Johnson HOTTEL Jackson and Jesus geez we gonna see today bruh get this nipped in the bud ( I'm obviously the teacher but just in case I need a friend one day)
Every reasonable person loves Louis. You just cannot remain indifferent when seeing and hearing him. And his all stars band guys are all great. What a performance !
The Greatness of Louis Armstrong and his terrific ALL STARS.They could all play sensationaly well.Louis was a giant in music not just in Jazz. What a great performance!
Hey Chris Wonderful clip of LA in Aus. I then watched many other clips that followed. Danny Kaye, a favourite of mine as a kid. We even went to see him live at the London Palladium. His clip with all the greats, Benny Goodman, Glen Miller, LA, Gene Kruper and numerous artists I cannot name from the jazz world - absolutely fantastic. Where can you see such icons these days? You can't. How clean cut and well dressed for stage and no screaming idiots in the audience. Refreshing to relive those halcyon days. Thanks Chris
not quite true. I have many old recordings of jazz etc like this dating back nearly 100 years. But agree, for the masses it is an easy way to access old recordings.
("Bing Crosby in Technicolor.") Who knew Trummy Young was this engaging an entertainer? From the movie "High Society," I know this number like the back of my hand, but I'd never seen this performance of it... It's slightly slower, and a whole lot groovier, and Satch the Entertainer is in full view. Although his featured moment is mere seconds in duration, Arvell Shaw shows, yet again, that he is one of the greatest stand-up bassists of all time. (Oh, yes: Music by COLE PORTER.)
Hi tux guys.. I was at the 1954 concert at the stadium.. and saw Louis and Trummy Velma Middleton was the singer.. I had a crush on Trummy and he bent down to talk to my sister and I.. Trummy said are you girls enjoying the concert.. dad got trummie’s autograph for me on a brochure.. I still have it.. my favourite treasure...
Danny Barcelona on drums was a revelation to me several years ago. He got off the road with Satchmo and returned home to Hawaii. I believe he was of Filipino descent. Fine drummer.
