Now You See It - Chuck Henry version (5/1/89)

Here's a full episode of the Chuck Henry version of Now You See It, which in my opinion is very underrated. It's too bad that it wasn't as popular as it could've been. Chuck is also not a bad host.
I included the original commercials in this upload, as I figured some people would get a kick out of the old ads. If you would prefer that I cut out the commercials, let me know, and I'll take this down and upload another version with the ads cut out.
I hope you enjoy!!

KCPQ is where a lot of NBC and CBS game shows through the 80s and early 90s ended up because KIRO and KING(our CBS and NBC affiliates) carried either syndicated programming or news or whatever. Not only this show, but at one time or another the CBS version of Feud, Bob Goen's Wheel, Press Your Luck, the early portion of Classic Concentration, Sale of the Century, and many others were picked up by Channel 13 from their sign on in 1980-around 1992 or so.

I also loved the show, and this is a great video. Thank you! Needless to say, I want to see more of it. Specifically, I'm looking for video of the show in which a second-round puzzle ends with the word PIPER and the category has something to do with Shakespeare.

In fairness, I never got a chance to see this version -- it wasn't cleared in my city as I recall. And you are right -- it isn't bad and may not have gotten a fair shake. (I rather feel for Chuck Henry ,he was probably seen as trying to 'replace' Jack Narz, unfairly or not.) Two things about this version that just strike me the wrong way and they are minor: the 'crown' around the champion's name tag; Ye gods! And this version's logo; it looks like a child wrote it in crayon. But the set rocks!

I think this show was on in Seattle/Tacoma, WA. Thing is though, it was probably on KCPQ 13(at that point an independent, but also an affiliate of the fledgling Fox network; although at that point, Fox was only programing a couple nights a week, so the station like all Fox affiliates at that time was more an independent then a network station).

After 4 weeks into the run, they started doubling the points in the second board when time was running out. I gotta wonder, was there at least one episode of the Henry Now You See It version where time ran out completely and nobody reached the 1000 points to win the qualifying round?

and 1989 also marked the beginning of the end for NBC Sautrday Morning Cartoons when NBC cancelled Disney's Gummi Bears (it went to ABC, then 1st-run syndication for 2 more seasons). Then when NBC lost the Gummis, they also cancelled The Smurfs and then Alvin and the Chipmunks in 1990 and 1991 respectively. None of NBC's new cartoons in the '91-'92 season lasted more than one season and by the Fall of 1992 NBC Saturday Morning Cartoons was gone for good.

Actually there's a video on youtube somewhere of the beginning of a Card Sharks(bob eubanks version) episode from KCPQ 13. As for Chuck Henry's hosting abilities, he looked like a pretty good host for this show. The problem though at least IMO is this was aired in 1989 when networks were trying to get rid of all their daytime game shows as fast as possible(except for a few), so that might have contributed to its quick demise a bit.

Chuck must have enjoyed it that he auditioned for Wheel before the job went to Bob Goen. The story of Chuck not wanting this being rerun is a myth. GSN had it they just chose not to rerun it. Hopefully Buzzr will rerun it soon. If they got the concentrations and MGHSH anything is possible.

It looks like they used switchable glass. You can see the red neon tubes in between the white neon. When the lockout is reset, the red neon lights come on just a split second before the glass switches to frosted. You can see it best in the championship round at 14:39.

Well blame Pat Sajak for that. In January 1989 he left daytime WOF on NBC for his failed late night show in CBS and the ratings plummeted crazily under its new host. The show was eventually cancelled on NBC in June but CBS picked it up almost immediately. CBS already had two established game shows (Family Feud and The Price Is Right) at that time. That made NOW YOU SEE IT expendable to be cancelled. Now you see it! LOL

@nicka727

That was from WTOL Toledo 11. Solo round was won the previous Friday. WJBK 2 had the 1989 Henry NYSI and I taped two episodes one is the finale (7/14/89) and the 6/30/89 episode (the same day of the last daytime Wheel Of Fortune on NBC before moving to CBS a few weeks later) I watched the 6/30/89 up to the qualifying round and the tape ran out during the commercial and how did the contestant do in the solo round on the 6/30/89 broadcast? WJBK didn't air Card Sharks from like April or May 1988 when Morton Downey Jr. took over the 10am slot (People's Court late in the summer 1988) to about January 3, 1989 the same day the WJBK's logo changed and debuted nighttime Family Feud. During that time WJBK aired Morton Downey Jr. at 10am.

Before WJBK became FOX 2 they preempted several CBS game shows like our NBC station WDIV did with their networks fare I have seen both Password Plus and Super Password Jim Perry's Card Sharks the CBS Family Feud Child's Play and others that wasn't aired here on GSN

@nicka727 9 лет назад
WDIV had Super Password for three months in the summer of 1987 at 9:30am and WJBK aired Jim Perry Card Sharks and it was reruns during 1982-84 at 9am. CBS Feud was picked up in Detroit in 1991 and WADL 38 Mt. Clemens/Detroit got that.

WJBK had the nighttime Family Feud and didn't pick it up at first. It joined the schedule after the New Year 1989 just shortly after the logo change until September 1990 where it got replaced with the Joker's Wild '90.

They did bring back Sale of the Century into syndication in 2007, and it was terrible. The game itself wasn't too bad but the pacing was so slow because they were trying to sell the prizes to the home audience during the show. That also meant that some of the prizes were totally chintzy, like the handbag rental service for a year.

I actually like our president as he has been keeping his promises unlike the current politicians. I wonder how the "Left" still believes that he is a Nazi when he has not killed off a race of people, did not set up interment camps, and is actually for the Jews. If we were living in a communist society (e.g., North Korea), then our rights would be incredibly limited to practically nothing. Even our right to say what we want about our president is protected by Freedom of Speech to a certain degree; in a Communist country, people would be punished severely for going against their leader. If we were living in Nazism, then why do we not have wealth redistribution yet? So, be very blessed and thankful that we have our Constitution to keep Communism from happening.
