I am Muhammad Nowfer studying 3rd yr (2011-12) Automobile in MIT, Chennai. I have made a mistake at 3:16. There is two P3s in that page. Its correctly typed in the following slides. Actually this type of gear box is obsolete. But it is to understand the basic idea of automatic transmission

I came here while I was reading Cannery Row. Steinbeck talks about model T bands and reversing up hills when the bands are worn. I wanted to dig a little bit deeper and understand why.

CVT transmission essentially the same but with 2 cones and a belt.

Thank you, someone who can finally give me a detailed mathematical explanation. But um, what year is it because '08-16 were two pedal transmissions and.17-28 were all standard three pedal transmission, (in order, high/low pedal, reverse pedal and finally the brake pedal.

+Dan Henkel Only the earliest model Ts had the two pedal transmission. All model T transmission are pretty much 100% alike except the 26/27s had a wider brake drum .

Actually, Henry Ford was not the brains behind the Model T transmission. The real mechanical geniuses were the Dodge Brothers who designed and built many of Fords parts (until Henry screwed them over and it all went to court).

Despite Henry Ford's claims, he hadn't invented the epicyclic gearbox: that was the Ancient Greeks in about 500 BCE. The Antikythera Mechanism was a sort of clockwork pocket astronomical calculator which employed epicyclic gearing.
