In 1964 20 year old southpaw reliever Masanori Murakami signed with the Giants. In 89 1/3 MLB innings, Murakami struck out 100 NL batters. Then he got called back home, and NPB was closed to the U.S. for a quarter century.

Very thoughtful breakdown and commentary on these players. As a 10-year Japan resident I can honestly say your videos regularly surpass much of the Japanese language content and media on NPB.

Japanese players are so professional that I bet pitchers are already practicing with an MLB ball and timer.

here after the Rays actually signed Uwasawa to a minor league deal. They invited him to the major league camp. Hopefully the Rays can get him to be a solid back end starter or bulk innings eater out of the bullpen. I'm excited to see him pitch in the majors.

Love your content. One name not making the jump to MLB is Kona Takahashi, who was denied posting by his club (Seibu Lions). If he had been available, what type of contract do you think he could have received and which clubs would he had fit in best, in your opinion?

2023 stats 26GS, 8-8, 3 CG, 3 SO, 174.1 IP, 129 SO, 44 BB, 49 ER, 2.53 ERA Definitely an ace caliber SP in NPB, but he's nowhere near good as Yamamoto or Senga. He's a little bit of a downgrade like Takahashi or Uwasawa.

Thanks for the scouting report on Imanaga. Curious to see how he does with the Cubs, and I’m also curious if Imanaga could possibly sway the Cubs to sign a teammate of his last year, Trevor Bauer.

I wonder why you left out Kaz Sasaki when refering to Japanese closers and saying they weren't that good because Kaz was at par with Mariano Rivera for the years he spent in MLB before prematurely retiring due to family issues.
@YakyuCosmopolitan
@YakyuCosmopolitan 6 месяцев назад
Sasaki isn’t a bad comp because he was indeed still in his prime, but he was a tall righty and a bit older than Matsui, a short lefty. The level of success could certainly be similar.

Maybe good comparison to Matsui would be Okajima? I think he can be as good as him or better.
@zkiiffs9
@zkiiffs9 6 месяцев назад
They’re not really similar other than the fact that they’re Japanese lefties. Okajima was a soft tosser who relied on a deceptive delivery and a big overhand curveball. That’s not Matsui.

I’m a bit confused, how does Rodriguez defecting from Cuba correlate to skipping on the NPB season Was he not allowed back into japan?
@uchikoshi-TL
@uchikoshi-TL 6 месяцев назад
Rodriguez's contract with the Dragons is through the Cuban government, so defecting meant that he was going default on that contract as well. Technically he could have re-signed with the Dragons under his own terms but that would have meant the Dragons would have to cut ties with the Cuban government (=loss of Raidel Martinez). Yariel defected with the intent of signing with an MLB org anyway, and basically Chunichi held out for a year as a sign of protest.
