You will need a personal NPI, and organizational NPI, a personal PTAN, and business PTAN. Then your personal PTAN will be reassigned to your business.

Thanks for your videos! How to I create a ptan for my business that I'm starting? I've already got an individual PTAN that is assigned to another group. I know I need to reassign my ptan to my new business, but how do I get the ptan for the new business?

Thanks for your response. I had a question I am starting a part time job as independent contractor with a tele company (PLLC) based in Florida. They said they’ll have organizational PTAN and organizational NPI for me for billing. But I don’t want my primary employer (hospital) to know about it when I’ll be filling up application for them. Can they know about my independent contractor part time job unless I let them know or they’ll know that once they apply for their own PTAN for me ?

Does OTA and PTA require a ptan number to enroll with Medicare for part B services

OTA and PTA can not enroll in Medicare as a provider. All billing happens under the supervision of an OT and PT.

Thank you for your videos! If I hire another therapist for my practice is there a clear path to link their NPI/PTAN to my business for CMS billing (once they are credentialed). Also do you by chance know why when working got a hospital you can bill under the hospital as a rendering provider but when working for yourself you need to credential directly with Medicare for every therapist you hire? Thank you for your time! You’ve helped me a lot.

When you hire a therapist you will use PECOS to submit a CMS 855R (reassignment) If the newly hired therapist isn't already contracted it is the same basic process to get that therapist contracted and reassigned. Hospitals are classified differently. You are considered a PT or OT in private practice under Medicare Part B. As such each therapist is required to be individually contracted and reassigned to your business. Assistants do not contract with Medicare. When an assistant is hired all billing is submitted under the supervising therapist.

@@LearnMedicareBilling Thank you for the response! That helps. I was unaware that PTA’s did not have to be credentialed. Currently I am the owner/sole therapist but will be needing help soon. I started a new practice in 2020 and your videos have been a huge help. Can’t thank you enough!

When enrolling your business there is a place to enter the DBA. This topic gets more involved than I can explain in a RU-vid comment.

When going through PECOS can I use my SS# in place of the TIN, I thought I heard you say this in one of your videos but I may be mistaken. My LLC is being finalized and I don't have the TIN yet

Yes, you could enroll as a therapist using your SS# without a business but if you plan on having a business with a tax ID I would just wait until you are ready.

I have a mobile clinic set up in one state and I just established an LLC in another state so I am requesting a second NPI type 2 # for my new LLC. NPPS is asking if my second business is a subpart of the first. How do I answer that? They have the same name just an established LLC in NY and CT.

I would ask why you created a whole second LLC? Normally you would just register your existing LLC as a foreign LLC in the new state.

You might want to talk to a CPA before you do anything. If you are getting a second EIN you may be submitting two tax returns which increases costs.
