@@thefandomcollector4267 Check the video description!! Jon says that any teasing is normal for their dynamic after 7+ years of friendship and he's fine with it
Jon looks like hes dressed up as either a music teacher or an English teacher and Jeff as tue new student who want to learn film making even if hes not the greatest with computer
I mean hes not wrong. Will is really good in every scene hes in and I hope to see him in more Starkid stuff in the future because damn he really nailed it here.
Ayo shoutout to Jon with just the most iconic line of the whole show. Like, it must be so cool to see that this moment is like the defining scene. Also, his delivery was impeccable. He somehow nailed the combo of being absolutely terrified, but trying to muster all his defiance and self-assurance to try and prove Jagerman wrong. So good.
I was really proud of that moment and really grateful that people resonated with it. I was really nervous about it but I think it worked out and I'm just really grateful and proud lol
First, Jeff's music in NPMD is by far my fave music he's ever done. Like, I love the songs in Trail to Oregon and TGWDLM, but I think NPMD surpasses them all in terms of catchiness and emotional content. Second, I love that Jon picks out so many of the things that I love watching these musicals. The chorus characters are always some of my faves because of how much you can see the actors throw themselves into these different characters over the course of the show.
he's said before that he was the safety choice for max- as in, if they couldnt find anyone else, they would get jeff to do it, but they held auditions to try to find a better match and jeff says that when will branner auditioned, he passed the role on immediately. he called it a "young mans role"
1:38:24 Lowkey confirming my theory that the "who will pray for me" part of Nerdy Prudes Must Die was actually foreshadowing Grace's turn in Dirty Dudes Must Die because of how different the lyrics hit considering her character
I feel like the scene in TGWDLM where Jeff yeets Paul's phone actually stemmed from a irl deeprooted hatred of modern technology.. "UUUUGHH WEAR A WATCH "
Richie’s death hurts so much because he, like Pete before him, is following the societal beliefs that if you stand up to the bully he’ll lose his power. And like Pete was immediately taught, that’s never true. You can’t stop him. No matter how sure of yourself, how happy you are now. Kills me every time, man
Jon, you have my favorite line in the whole musical with the "No, he thinks the ghost is real, he's just really fucking brave" 10/10 writing and delivery
If TGWDLM highlighted Jon’s fantastic acting (both emotional and comedic), then NPMD really highlighted how far he’s come musically. Already a top 3 starkid to me
Jon complimenting everyone in the company, Jeff vibing to his own music... you can tell they love what they do. And that goes for everyone in Starkid. Obviously you have to love it to put all the hard work into it, but I'm so happy seeing how much those in Starkid absolutely LOVE what they do, the work they put into their shows, and love who they work with
I don't know why Jeff saying "I need to eat something or I'm gonna die" made me laugh harder than literally anything else they said in the commentary, lol.
Jon, you smashed every role in this musical! I wish you got more praise from Jeff here, I get he's in a bad mood but he could still be more supportive in my opinion
Honestly, the whole technical difficulties at the start makes me appreciate streamers just a little bit more for what they have to set up. Good on you for doing it live.
I appreciate that little detail Jon added to Richie with his nervous itching. I’ve always been a scratcher when I get nervous. Panic attacks were the worst because I’d end up scratching my skin til it bled.
Jon saying he paid a lot for vocal lessons to hit the note in I’m Dead - money well spent. You can really hear the difference in his vocals from TGWDLM to NPMD, his intro song is clleeeaaannnnn 😩💕😩💕
I fully just misread your comment as if you were implying there was a secret second Jagerman boy... i was like oh shit what do they know that I don't lmao
So, we got a short film for Workin' Boys. When will we get to see Barbecue Monologues? More important, when do we get the full movie of Santa Clause Goes to High School?
"Bootleg DVDs haven't been a thing for like 15 years" Me, remembering that I had a creepy manager that tried to sell underage kids hooch, weed, and bootlegs in the year 2018. It's only been 5 years since someone tried to get me to buy a pirated movie.
You all should be so incredibly proud of this show!! The music is absolutely top notch and the choreography, set design, acting, and singing are all seriously show stopping
This is such a convo between my grumpy confused dad and my so trying to be patient and supportive akdbsksj I'm sorry to Jeff but his energy 😂 talking over Jon's singing too 🥺
I wanna say, an au where they do get to be friends would be cool. Especially cause like there’s signs he could be. Like he’s admittedly scared of the ghosts and skel’eon- but seeing Steph his first instinct is to protect her.
Oh my god I really thought 'wow nice I wonder what Jon Matteson thinks of Richie's performance haha this was awesome I wonder if he's friends with the actor' before I realized
29:52 I think there isn't any problem with the whole "first the Jägerman boy and now this" thing. Sure they find Richie dead first but yeah Max goes missing well before that as mentioned. Though yeah I can understand why people get confused. I love the whole starting with Richie singing "I'd dead" and then Ruth singing about someone coming for her. It kinda foreshadows what happens with Max's kills later. First time around watching it wasn't exactly clear this was a time jump backwards between the opening cop scene and the opening song but it works really well. 32:28 I assumed that the dog line was a reference to Count Dankula and the dog he taught to do the Nazi salute etc but that would have been a few years before the time setting if you want to over think this. 44:10 I hadn't actually thought of that "I won't rest" line, that's brilliant. 48:10 That has to be the perfect impersonation of a know it all nerd with no real people skills. The circles I run in are so deep with that personality type that its etched into my brain, they are my people (even if they can be annoying). Most, like Richeie, actually are pretty cool if they get a chance. Oh yeah and Richie's hair read Weeb wanting to be Anime to me, especially after the lines about the body pillows and Attack on Titan lol. 57:45 I only did this recently but reading the newspaper headlines is a treat, some nice references in there. 58:50 there is so much good comedy in the show but there was something about the delivery of these lines and the faces pulled that has me in stitches every time 59:42 well it was already said that even she isn't allowed to see herself naked and so she bathes in a swimsuit lol 1:00:50 I'm going to be that guy and point out that technically that's not a crucifix because it is a bare cross, and Grace would probably know the difference.
How the hell did it take me so long to realize Jon plays Richie. It literally took him saying shit about being in the show for me to be like"... Waaaaaaait a minute." In my brain when he'd say upcoming stuff I was like "ah, prewatched" like no, ya dunce, pre-MADE
My stomach fucking dropped when Jon said, "he has friends," because in that exact moment I remembered what's about to happen. This play is so well paced, just enough time to make you forget what Richie said in the beginning, while ensuring that the moment he says, "I love being alive," it comes rushing back and suddenly you're in turmoil and experiencing an adrenaline spike. Everyday I'm grateful that I decided to watch nerdy prudes because straight up, starkid changed my life, it exposed me to a love of musical theatre I didn't know I had and I'm so glad you guys exist.
How do you feel knowing you had the most influential line in the show? ‘I’m not a loser’ at the end of ‘Nerdy Prudes Must Die’ resonated so hard with so many people and you absolutely killed the delivery man, it gave me literal chills. Awesome work. (Ps: people need to give your character voice as Wiggly more love too because it was also incredible)
i had put off seeing this show for a really long time but finally a clip of it had come up on my tik tok. it was your opening in high school is killing me. it was so gorgeous i literally dropped everything that I was doing to watch the show finally. jeff is such an incredible composer and songwriter, and your voice had me FLOORED, i probably replayed that first verse about a hundred times before i continued the show truly
There are some auto-scanners that report apparent similarities, even if the creator is the one behind what gets reported. It was a larger issue a while back, and has been mostly fixed, but it can happen.
I havent watched Starkid since AVPM and bro the way im immediately obsessed and have watched NPMD like 4 times already HAHAHA its just soooo good! I love the twist at the end with steph and pete, the harmonies and layering is crazy good, the acting, singing and casting is just so good and angelas facials make me crack up everytime. Truly one of my favourites to watch (and you know for a fact ive watched hella "slime tutorials" LMAO) So truely hats off to everyone involved in this production.
My god people followind Starkid since forever and still are annoying about Jeff. He is like that since always. He always is a chaotic, head-on-clouds, deadpan, highly sarcastic and all-over-the placr energetic genius. I can't believe people are still saying that he's bein rude or whatever. Surely you can't say from just one stream and sure you can't know better than a guy who is his friend since 8 years or a company thst is working with him since forever. Get a grip, jeez.
Yeah idk he just strikes me as an Aries energetic kinda guy, anything that slows him down/holds him back could make him cranky like the streaming problems, once somethings done hes instantly got his mind on the next thing but despite that he's happy to take some time out to look at past stuff with his pal despite any of his irks
YYYYYEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!! What a fantastic watch, thanks so much for doing this again. Having Jeff on this time to hear his insight was awesome! I could watch part two on twitch now but I think I'll just wait for the youtube upload. Funny you were saying how Will is a huge dnd nerd, I'm about to watch a dnd stream otherwise part two would go on now. Thanks again. For what it's worth if you got different cast members together for other Starkid productions and did this I would pay upwards of dozens of dollars for every show and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Jeff's fury at technology is literally so real. I almost cried today trying to figure out how to log into my new school email. I'm now watching this and eating a giant bag of chips as self-care.
Just wanted to let you know, youre fantastic in this! (And I love seeing a sort of behind the scenes thing, like your take on some of the songs and moments.) You were great in TGWDLM too but obviously you didnt have much to sing there, and having the audience not know you as a singer/performer added to the tension in the show. So you were great in that show too but you can see how much youve improved even from that, its clear youve put a ton of work into it and I love the strength, clarity, and great tone you have throughout the entire show. I especially loved the completely unhinged Lords in Black parts! Fantastic writing, great music from Jeff, amazing casting and wonderful performances from everyone, special mention to you, Joey, and Mariah especially! (I miss Jaime though!) Great work!
Fun to hear insights from both of you, this is truly an amazing show, and Jon I hope you know how much the work you put in paid off, the emotions in the character, the vocals, the timing of both the comedy and the heartfelt moments, it rocks.
Jon, you are such a creative inspiration. I’m so blown away by you. For your incredible range in both your acting and vocal skills. And also how genuinely proud and supportive you are of your cast mates. You seem like a lovely guy and I love watching you perform every time ❤
Thanks for the sub, this really helps me to watch with a little bit more of confidence as english is not my native language, it's like the training wheels in a bycicle. Also, great job on the musical, another fucking awesome work for the Hatchfield Series
HEY so im several months late but i really need you to know that i saw NPMD a month ago and it's my favorite musical like. period. you both should be incredibly proud of this but jon specifically it's was really cool to see tgwdlm and then this and i can really tell that there was a lot of musical growth there. your performances are always top notch and i can't wait to see cinderella's castle :)
The snapping on 1 and 3 joke is really great. It is really annoying when people clap on 1 and 3 which is a sign of not understanding the genre. I personally imagine drunk older people at the Oktoberfest:D
I noticed the peach line too! I was hoping other people saw it but I’d already left a comment on pretty much every other comment on a video relating to NPMD and I didn’t want to comment twice.
