This morning on radio 2 right before his own radioshow started, Bart told that he had started preparing this whole opening in April last year. That kind of preparation results in this kind of spectacular opening. And the Top 2000 deserves that. This edition was just as spectacular as previous editions. I loved it.

There is also a 20 minute movie where Bart explains how he did it. How he did choose the pieces of music or even the instruments of songs and how he used the pad which is actually a looping machine where under each button a sound or a piece of music is programmed that is synchronized with the rhythm. There is also a version of this clip where all the played songs are listed on de left side of the screen.

I really liked it. The tribute to Rob de Nijs on 6:12 was so special. Rob's carrier as a singer ended december '22 witrh a farewell concert. He had a very succesful singing carreer since the sixties. Had so many hits. He's really special to so many fans. So sad that parkinsons disease has got the best of him. He's 80 years old now.

In case you dont know the building is the museum of imagery and sound (beeld en geluid) it focuses on our history with tv and radio and what surrounds it, think of archives and (pieces of) sets and used technology (cameras, tv's, etc) If I'm not mistaking

This was a piece of art! For me the Top 2000 IS the embodiment of the end of the year. A list of the best music humanity has ever created, and for which every single person can vote for their favorite songs. I always vote as soon as the voting starts. Creating my list when the new year starts again. Though my list always includes some classic favorites that never change. Some might nog like it ever an eternity on number 1, but for me “Bohemian Rhapsody” remains the greatest song ever made. And “Avond” by Boudewijn de Groot remains my favorite Dutch song.

During preparation of the whole setting in the ponds Bart showed for tv how things worked. He pushed a button to turn on the fountains. One of the coproducers was standing in the middle at that particular moment, shouting "stop!", getting soaking wet.

I do hope you know the Dutch songs/references! It starts with 'De Dijk' . A band that in the week before Christmas retired. Finito. Basta. Claro. Klaar! It was a Dutch reign since '81. A little bit later you see in the lights pink and green and a singer. You also hear a little bit of music. The photo is Henny Vrienten from THE '80s band in The Netherlands (and many years after) Henny unfortunaly died last year, so this was in his honor. There's also a little bit Guus Meeuwis in there, probably because he performed in New York in 2022. (2 sold out shows!!!) So that's a little tiny scoop of the Dutch songs. Much love!

Once again, only this time with names of all the songs and artists he used in some way. (I only recognized a small part.) BTW: these phenomenal openings are one thing we have to thank Covid for. Before that he used to do these mashups in the "Top 2000 café", no big show, just audience. I was a bit afraid that he would go back to the old way now that everything got normal again; so glad he went on with these amazing shows.

imagine this, what was it a minute or 10? for these minutes, it took him 7,5 months to build this mix. phone calls to producers of the bands/singers of the songs he uses, etc. 34 songs are used, and all the bits and pieces from the songs are all individual tracks mixed in to each other.

This whole thing live on the roof of the building where the entire top 2000 was happening. Him playing live, singer live, violinist live, singer live. I think playing the saxophone was candy dulfer *big hit with prince* Accordeon player from the band the song was. The face on the floor with the music henny vrienten who died last year, one of the musicians of a very popular dutch band and songwriter for many other artists and movies. Too many too count. You really need a song list with timings for the vid.

Dammit, it started so great but then the holy crap to spoil everything RAPPING. Dutch rappers SUCK. I know of not a single decent Dutch rapper and absolutely NO good ones for sure. But many years ago the GRANDMIX (yeah that was the original name) was a staple of all the music that was good during that year.

I'm almost sorry having to tell you Dutch rap is appreciated internationally. Do a RU-vid search on it, just for fun. The GRANDMIX thing was nothing alike, nor were the opening supposed to be alike. Ofcourse you can hate on what Bart Arens makes of it, but he sure as hell puts in an actual effort. The grandmix stuff was just "this was popular this year". A literal "last years's news". Before you respond, keep in mind that no, I'm not into rap in any way, shape or form. Dutch? English? French? German? Oh god no. But this was relatively well done, linking two tracks. As you know we have a term for what you're doing: azijnzeiker.

Niet dat het meeste anderstalige rap zoveel beter is. Er is wel wat goede rap maar in het Nederlands heb ik nog nooit iets gehoord dat in de buurt komt van redelijk ok tot best goed.
