What a beautiful run -- she's a gorgeous horse and I like the way he rides her. I really love the way he hugged her. Sometimes special horses/riders bring me to tears, this is certainly one of them. Great job, Shawn! I wonder who they will breed her to - mare power rules!

He never dissapoints us! Wimpys little step, wimpys little chic, gunnatrashya.... He just keeps it comin'! Great horses with heart and flash. Big stops, fast spins, smooth changes.... It doesn't get any better than that.

i love how sensitive this horse is. the rider seemed to eat his movements a couple times because she picked up on his cues better than he intended. like on the rollbacks. gorgeous horse. it's head position is impeccable.

@callmehchippy
@callmehchippy 14 лет назад
chizzy, those stops are very, very good. :) They are trained to put their heads down when they stop and her legs just look strange because they are moving while her hind legs are in the dirt to get the sliding effect. Its judged on how well the horse performs the task and how little cues the rider gives. The more perfection the horse does by itself, the better. Basically, its a western form of dressage.

@iluvhorses7898 Oh...well I guess iI should have looked at all the possibilities...and should've made sure I knew what I was talking about completly. Thanks for informing me! :) And yeah, they are I didin't think of that. That they're just taking the things from in the wild and putting a "twist" to it. And that's cool that you are a horse trainer!!! I've always wanted to train horses...:/ Have a good day! :)

@JumpingPerfection121 Yeah, reining is one of my favorite sports and I love it very much! I agree that jumping puts more stress on a horses joints than reining does, jumping puts more stress on a horses joints more than any discipline. I sometimes think people believe that these horses are not in good shape or something. They need to realize how much training goes into making those stops and spins perfect. Just like in Dressage to make the Pirouette perfect or a move of that sort. =)
@JumpingPerfection121
@JumpingPerfection121 13 лет назад
@TheBessierocks Expensive vet appointments, wraps, etc. For their joints. Jumping horses have this to but in reining their joints aren't being smashed together as a horses would when landing a JUMP. In reining their joints will grind not so much as smash. The horses I have seen with really bad arthritis have been jumpers. Believe me I've seen a lot of horses with arthritis in my time

This ride was reviewed at the event, and because the horse stops, and has to regain it's balance with a couple small steps, that is okay. At that point the ride is completed. Then the horse steps back as Shawn is removing his hat, but the ride is already over at that point. It would have had to take 8 steps back right-away to DQ.

anything and everything people do to horses will have an impact on them physically in the long run. however reiners, jumpers, dressage pros - they all take very good care of their horses meaning most horses are on joint and tendon supplements and treatments to help them with any problems they may have.
@wetplatewillow
@wetplatewillow 13 лет назад
p2: capable of doing full blown sliding stops and performing spins. the only reason why they wear some wear so many boots it to prevent injuries, not because they already have some. ive done a high level of dressage, western and show jumping and i know for a fact that reining horses are less likely to get injured than show jumpers, everything is smooth and steady not jerky or uncomfortable. reining isn't learnt over night and its not easy, but its deffinatly better for riders with arthritis.
@BriD
@BriD 15 лет назад
actually most reining horses stand anywhere from 14.3 hands to 16.1+ with large muscles and the most incredible talent.

@TheReiner22
@TheReiner22 15 лет назад
ok, so that makes sense but we think that when he is training his horses to roll back, he backs them up a few steps to get them on their haunches, then instead of doing a 180, he will turn them all the way around another time and lopes off, to keep the horse from jumping out of it three quarters of the way around. So therefore, the horse is thinking about a full turnaround instead of a rollback, and so the opposite foot usualy lands and they come out on that lead. Please tell me what you think
@JumpingPerfection121
@JumpingPerfection121 13 лет назад
@TheBessierocks Well barrels are hard on their joints as well, but jumping horses have some of the most toll on their joints.
@Reiner727
@Reiner727 15 лет назад
My reining trainer said that it was because he traines his horse to rollback and get out of there. So they go out of therefast come out on what ever lead then if it is wrong they change leads:)
@JumpingPerfection121
@JumpingPerfection121 13 лет назад
@horsecrazy11 Yes I agree. People just are ignorant about it and need to do some research before stating a false comment. Yeah and to add to what you were saying I mean theses horse's are in very good shape and have supplements for their joints. And that is also why the wear boots on the horses. The people who made those comments need to their research b4 they go and say something is wrong when they clearly know nothing about it. I mean jumping puts more stress on than reining.

Can someone please explain to me what reining is about? Is it the agility of the horse? Its obedience? It's heartstopping to see a horse to slide to a stop like that...Chic's front feet had a considerable wobble on there as it came to a halt and with it's head bowed as if it hurt. PLease don;t answer with sarcasm, I'm not critising, I know nothing about the sport... I'm curious..and a bit concerned about those stops :)

@JumpingPerfection121 I was trained in Dressage so I know what it is. But I hate it when people say that this destroys joints, when trained correctly, it won't destroy their joints. Same with Dressage and I know that. I just forgot to state that.

@horsecrazy11 Dressage doesnt really destroy their joints. I mean sure some of the olympic movements do but basic training level and lower levels dont really. Dressage means training go look it up if you dont believe me. And plus that would mean you said trainig hurts them. It depends what kind

@nipper1065 There is a differance between the ears being back and them being pinned. Pinned is aggression. Horse put their ears BACK to listen. And getting the shots to the tail is BANNED in EVERY reining event.. The horse doesn't shake to regain balance. If she was stumbling all over the place that would be trying to regain balance. And he's not ONLY getting off to be interviewed but there IS an EQUIPMENT CHECK they go through at the end. Shut up if you don't know what you're talking about.

@JumpingPerfection121
@JumpingPerfection121 13 лет назад
@TheBessierocks Of course they CAN jump naturally. That still doesnt mean that is doesnt put stress and agony on their joints. When horses jump 4 and 5 feet you can't tell me that doesnt harm their joints, it DOES!!! That's why they have specially formulated joint supplements for jumping horses. So don't point the finger saying Im wrong when you clearly have some false facts. Everything I said is true. Reining can destroy their joints but that's why reining ppl have boots, supplements, (c)

@iluvhorses7898 Do you know how old I am? The same age, and I never said I was a professional horse trainer, I just believe that a thirteen year old is incapable of being one -- why? Look at all the stars in the horse world, they're old as hell, because it's lifetime experience with the animals and a greater understanding that goes deeper than the comprehension of a thirteen year old. It's a connection on a psychological level in a part of a brain that is under developed.
@Rainstarsky17
@Rainstarsky17 11 лет назад
I am just saying, if you knew anything about this sport, you'd know it's ears are back because the horse is listening for voice cues which you are constantly giving the horse.

You know what else destroys horses joints? Dressage, barrel racing, jumping, endurance, trails, Cutting, Every discipline destroys their joints and causes arthritis. So, just get over it.

@Rainstarsky17
@Rainstarsky17 11 лет назад
I'm sorry but horses do jump in the wild such as over logs. Horses also gallop around trees and rocks and that stuff in the wild so they are fine doing barrelst too. And as for the sudden stops, no they do not HAVE to do it in the wild but they CAN. Horse riding sports are not bad for the horse and no hardly anybody agrees with what you said.
@ArtsmithyNetwork

@iluvhorses7898 So, you're being unreasonable and I do not care for being lectured by a mother over the internet, which they usually do not because adults know that people on the internet on not typically threats. As for what I previously said, I made sure to say she likely loves horses with all her heart -- she can teach horses -- but she's not a trainer (by saying this you're eluding that you're professional & certified.) I don't think she is, is she?
