NS 211-16 Derails!!

NS 211-16 struck a semi at the MP 613.7 crossing, derailing the SD70ACC No. 1832, two Dash 9-44CW's, and tens of millions of dollars in cargo loss as 12 cars derailed ripping up a quarter mile of track and halting the Piedmont for 13 gruesome hours.
*And before y'all come in the comments saying i was laughing, listen yo the engineer. He chuckled when he said "We're all sideways on the engine", meaning both he AND I were in a state of shock that this 9300ft train just went from 60mph to 0mph in ten seconds and he watched his conductor get thrown across the cab shortly after the collision. We immediately went down there (arriving a few minutes before first responders), checked on the crew, grabbed shots of the mess, and stepped back. The people you SHOULD be hating on are the kids who trespassed through the police tape after the derailment amidst cops, paramedics, firefighters, FRA, NS Agents, and MOW crews to get pictures.*

The train consists of NS SD70ACC 1832, and two Dash 9-44CW'S 9866 and 9585. The train was rolling down the tracks at 60 MPH, and was heading to its destination. But, down the line, there was trouble up ahead. A semi truck got stuck on the train tracks; the gates go down, and a woman records this on her phone, suddenly- CRASH! It happens; the train destroys the trailer and derails. The engines come off the rails as cars come tumbling behind. The truck driver got out safely before the crash. It took a long time to clean up this big mess.

Just seconds before the brake line got ventilated to atmospheric pressure around 2:12 you can hear two pressure shocks crushing the train. In this moment there is a good chance that the train buckels on the pont of highest force especialy when there is no load on the cars and there is a corner. Then the cars there suddenly snap next to the track. Maybe exactly that happened to the first wagons.

And later realizing that the big pileup was exactly where I film trains when I'm at that crossing. But sure, make your opinions. Air brakes at best can only apply car to car at the speed of sound because air is the transmission medium. Yes, you can get a pop if you break a set of connections in front of you, but what you will also hear is an air release traveling in both directions away from the break as the system repeats the reduction car to car. Right. If you look up NS train symbols on google, a full list of the symbols shows up with origin, destination, days running, and additional info like what yards they work or even when the crew goes on-duty. railroadfan.com/wiki/index.php/NS_Train_Symbols
