In July of 2018, a pair of NS SW1001's found its way onto H90, a local originating at Chapmans Yard to work industries along the former Catasauqua and Fogelsville. Norfolk Southern had 6 SW1001 engines numbered from 2100 to 2105, but as of 2020 three were sold off, two are assigned as shop switchers, and one is in storage so it's now very unlikely to get one in revenue service again.

All videos were taken in Fogelsville and Chapman Yard

Used to catch the 2100-2102, 2107 and 2110 on the H25. They were all assigned to Abrams about 15 years ago. Now they're all gone and so is the H25.

Not sure if anyone else noticed it but you can see axle number one on #2104 momentarily slip at 1:54 in the video right as it notches up. Though it isn't surprising. Light weight units notching up pushing hard is bound to generate wheel slip if you're not careful. Being right on top of a crossing isn't helping either as dust and other road grime is likely fowling the rails a bit too.

The control system is meant to deal with slips. It figured itself out.

I love the video. This is close to my house, I love seeing the switchers working on the C&F. I grew up in Alburtis and would watch conrail all the time switching out cars for the C&F 👍🏻👍🏻

Very nice catch on that local! I saw an SD40-2 on a local recently with a good P5 Horn on it. She was a beauty being NS 3304. Hearing old Six axles on locals is one of the most cool things you can ask for from NS in 2020 with PSR.

@@AndreiTupolev He means it's a rare sight to see these locomotives & they'll likely be gone soon.

I heard the Delmarva central railroad is getting a locomotive from NS and numbering it 2105.

It would be highly unlikely for these three to get PTC installed, so you are mostly likely correct that they will probably never lead a mainline job again.

especially since they're all retired or designated shop switchers

I like the instruction at 1:05 : "Do not hammer on car ". Obviously they've had problems with that

When they say hammer is the translation front-end loads and skid steers?

What does "Do Not Hammer On Car" mean in Railroading? I've heard it before but don't understand it very well.
@AndreiTupolev

@@lnproductions3227 I presume it means hammering on it to dislodge the contents

The "do not hammer on car" stenciling you are seeing is sometimes used especially on covered hoppers that carry commodities such as sugar, fertilizer, ext... that can draw moisture and consequently clump together when the car is being emptied. The "do not hammer on car" is there to ensure that hammering or other abusive measures aren't taken to dislodge clumped materials from the car when it's being unloaded. It's not uncommon to see cars placed on top of vibrating platforms when being emptied to ensure the car fully empties as well as to keep clumped product from potentially causing the bay doors on the bottom of the car to not fully close after being emptied. Hopefully that clarifies things. -Almost two decades working for UP.

Had no idea N&S still had these. I used to see them all the time at the yard in South Norfolk.

Only three remain if I'm not mistaken. None of them are used in revenue service anymore though sadly. On the bright side two of them are still active with a third likely being a parts source. All three are kept at the Juniata locomotive shop in Altoona, Pennsylvania and used as shop switchers. Their revenue days are long over on Class-1's as FRA rule sets and liability/insurance reasons alone would keep these units off of regular revenue work these days. But the fact that any power from their era of railroading exists at all in any capacity on a Class-1 these days is kind of amazing. On a related yet odd side note, one of them actually has had it's ditch lights replaced with LED's. Kind of funny in a weird way seeing a locomotive from the 1970's with LED ditch lights when units 40+ years newer then it don't have them. I've worked for UP for almost two decades now and this industry is, and always has been, a weird one at times lol...
