Can't believe this, I am 73 years old and have never been inside the works of a computer before, but thanks to your oh so clear step by step video I fix it. thanks so so much Will
My NTLDR went missing yesterday morning and after much online wheel-spinning I came upon this excellent video today which solved my problem. Everything was so clearly explained that I was able to successfully follow the instructions. I raise a cold glass of beer to you and thank you for your foresight in 2011 for publishing this video knowing that in about 5 years time a 75 year old man will need it.
Your video not only showed me how to correct my NTLDR problem (which had brought my PC to a screeching halt) but also I learned what it was all about, I am most grateful to you! Thanks Will, Les
Hi Les, Glad you enjoyed the video. In all my videos, I like to educate my viewers on what causes these issues. I think knowing what (potentially) caused the problem in the first place is a good way to avoid it in the future :-) Thank you for taking the time to comment and leave your feedback. It is much appreciated. Many thanks Will
Will regarding NTLDR missing file. In set up I only have one choice instead of the C windows I am getting D so there is no way of fixing this. Is there any way to get around this. Lloyd
Hi Will, The fix worked for my NTLDR is missing error; however, I now have a new one that says: \ SYSTEM32| HAL.dll What would be a good ix for this one?
Hi Will! I just can´t get into my C drive. The Recovery Console gives me just one choice of installation location as it being like: 1: D:\WINDOWS and D is my CD Rom drive. It would be OK but it asks for an administrator password - I don´t know that in the PC and neither in the Windows installation CD - how do I get out of it? Thanks a lot pal!
What does it mean when you put the disc in and it says Press any key to boot from CD.. then it just stays there without going to the blue screen? This is happening with a machine I am trying to repair and we're talking going on one hour. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm thinking the hard drive is going out.
WILL, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, GOD BLESS YOU, GOD BLESS YOU! You saved me the hassle of breaking down my computer, taking it to the shop, and spending money that I really don't have. Your directions worked PERFECTLY! WILL, YOU ARE INDEED THE MAN!!! GOD BLESS YOU!!! Keep up the good work and the great service to the people that you provide. Sincerely, D. Harris :-)
what happen when do it and the one i put copy d:\i386 tldr c:\ and it say they cannot read the system so how can i do next so it will read it through the copy files
At 9:00 on your video you have the option 1= C:\WINDOWS and you say that you could possibly have 2 options depending on your computer but i dont have any C:\WINDOWS to log on to. i only have one line that says C:\> what do i do from here?
Thank you so much my computer is just crappy and i don't know how it happened but the ntldr went missing and shut my computer down for days. This video helped me completely reboot my computer. I thank you for your help.
I accidentally pressed setup instead of recovery. So I've started another installation of Windows XP with the recovery disk. Now, I cant get the NTLDR code to reappear so I can choose the first Windows XP edition so I can repair it. Feeling pretty dumb right now. Don't know what else to do at this point!
What do I do when the only options that I get from my XP CD are setup WIN XP, Create Partition, and Delete Partition? I do not have an option for repair
my machine says .setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected correct. This may running a manufacturer supplied diagnostic or setup program. setup cannot continue. To quit setup, press F3. please help I've been dealing with this for while.
Hi Will, Thanks for uploading this video. I haven't try it yet but I will. Just want to say: I installed my XP with USB. After about one year, I had to delete all files in USB. I copied installion files to computer and after one day, this problem happened. I think the copying installion files to computer is led to this problem. So, what to do? This solving can solve my computer, too? Also, I'll find another XP installion pack, will it solve problem? If it will, i use USB again bcz my CD driver isn't work. And this will delete all files in harddisk? Sorry for my bad English, i am waiting your reply. Thanks.
When I press r to get into the recovery console instead of it coming up asking what installation I want to use it just comes up with "C:\" without the "WINDOWS" and even if I put in both commands it still says NTLDR is missing
Mine isn't restarting when I press those buttons and it does not go to the the screen that is blue when I try to follow that process. I have a new disc for it too.
Hello, first of all thank you for your videos they are a great help. However my problem is when I try to reboot with my Widows CD or with a USB drive I can't get either to boot?? I just keep getting CTRL-ALT- DEL it just keeps looping back to the same message, so I can't use your input for fixing the problem NTLDR is missing. Would you have any other suggestions or videos that I could review regarding this problem,, it's driving me nuts. Best regards, charlie
Great video! But i dont have a xp-cd nor do i have a cd-drive (notebook) Is there anything i can i do? Or do i have to get a portabel cd drive and xp-cd?
Thank You!! The map command saved me. On every other computer I have ever worked on (and I have worked on quite a few) the ROM drive has ALWAYS been labeled D in windows but not on this present system I am working on for a friend. It is labeled H that is why when I was following you prompt and using D: it would not work it had to be H: Again I THANK YOU!! The MAP command saved me! YOU ABSOLUTELY ROCK! : )
Hi there, the Windows XP that I have in my desktop is Home edition, I do not have the CD Recover for that edition, but I have the XP Pro Edition from my LapTop. Can I use tit to fix it! It dies not matter which edition I use it, or must be the same edition? Sure if the question sound stupid. And thank you very much for your video and your reply. Sonia

But I'm not trying to use Windows XP I'm trying to use Ubuntu I wiped the hardrive before the download and I don't understand why I'm getting this error message this hard drive never had an operating system on it just some random files I copied and saved.
Congratulations on your video!! You got the talent to teach! Your enjoyment is clear. Keep on educating us! By the way, after doing as shown, I got a message asking to reinstall a copy of the file: \system32\hal,dll Will follow as you showed and copy from the DVD drive. All the best,
It was a great step by step instruction. I copied the two files onto C drive. My laptop is a Dell latititute D-500. Originally, it came with Windows 2000. seller had already upgraded it to Windows XP before I purchased it. Later, later, I got the error message. Upon searching the web for a solution, finally, I came across yours. After successful copy of those two files into my machine by choosing override, I still get the same message. I wonder if because I am using the full version of XP CD?
hello i was wondering because i want to know if it would save my memory i have very sensitive videos of my grand father....i hope this process wont delete my things thaks
How can you solve the "NTLDR is missing" if a laptop doesn't have a Disk Drive? :( The Drive where you can put the CD/DVD in order to fixed the problem. My laptop doesn't have one. :-/
Wow!!! Your awesome! Very easy to follow and you fixed my problem. Thank you!! Will this happen again? Do I need to do something else to keep my computer clean and fast?

LOL Did this years ago, brings back funny memories, Eventually got there but took me ages, I eventually worked it out, with the basic (language) i had learn't Well a bit anyway lol, so it felt satisfying having worked it out myself.. Thanks Though Will, am sure This Will Help Many
Hi jos vido Thanks so much for leaving your comments. Pleased to hear it worked for you - and that you had fun doing it ... again :-) Windows XP was an amazing operating system. It was a pain to fix at times, but amazing nonetheless! Thanks for leaving your feedback Will
Hi Tunene340 Thanks for leaving your comments. Glad to hear that it all worked out for you :-) If you are receiving this message a lot, I would put it down to one of two things: 1) Malware / virus 2) A failing hard disk I would advise that you backup all your important data, just in case. Try scanning your computer with an anti-virus programme and run a Check Disk scan on your operating system drive. Many thanks Will
Hi Will. Thanks for the infor.I noticed another reason is that if you put a NEW or completely empty inner HD.It comes up.But if you have a spare disc WITH either files or something else it works.Wind XP home.I'm going to change in the new year to W 7 Ultimate.
Hi thank you for taking time to upload this video, I am running on windows vista and have my disc/s that came with it, my questions are Besides the odd few differences that may pop up, can this be done the same way with vista, and will it wipe my photo's and programes on my laptop..... I await your return Regards D.
