I agree with everything you said about Nucleum (7/10 as of now). I really want to love it, but in addition to the theme and art complaints, it felt too open at 2 players (I also feel this way about Barrage). I like pretty much all mechanism, and agree that the recharge thing is very good, except for the stars/milestones. Might be Clever VP-wise, but can't get anymore abstract [throws the little theme it had out the window]. I'm in the same boat, it's on my shelf, and preordered the expansion. I would love to play it at 3-4 players, which I know won't happen unless it comes to BGA. ... For reference, Barrage is 10/10 for me, but that's thanks to BGA. Have I only played Barrage at 2 players, it would probably be 7-8 as well. I have not played Brass. Please play it! It would be helpful to hear your comparison.
Yeah I don't really assign ratings but 7 sound about right. The one thing I will say for milestone that I did not mention it is another friction point on your recharge decision I often found myself scrambling to make sure I had enough stars prior to recharging. I like that but also falls into the category of another component a new player has to be aware of which makes the game a tougher teach. I never thought about barrage on bag, I need to try it. As for brass I may have to bribe my wife to get it to the table :)
Skip brass and go for barrage. Such a great game. Both value extensive plays. But barrage is soooo good. It’s way easier to play barrage well faster. Everything is open information and you are really interested in what other people are doing. Very interactive. I don’t. Know brass may be good. But I’ve only tried a couple of times. Didn’t click. Barrage did on the first play and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Try barrage. I’m pretty sure you’ll like it.
Haha. Please do. I play it also in bga when I have the time. Easily the most played game for me in bga. Try it with the solo automa to get a feel for the game and mechanics before jumping in with experienced players. Pro tip. Always make sure you have contracts to fulfill when running your conduit 😉
Good stuff, I think you did a great job explaining the basics of the game. Whats the setup look like for the game? Combining these two games into one is a very interesting choice, from what you have said and from what I gathered from other places it seems to work really well. Im kinda sad to hear the theme is really lacking, but like you said its an Euro cant expect too much from it. I have started leaning heavier into games that has a decent theme, and are strong for solo play. Thanks!
Thanks for the support, set up in the beginning (like most games) was rough but now I knock it out in 15 min by myself. I will say I keep thinking about this game and want to keep playing it. Theme is less of a problem for me but if I can find the holy trinity of art/theme/mechanics I will be shouting it from the roof tops. Good sign though that I still think about it even now. What games are you playing now?
@@Neon_Gorilla For sure its a pretty hard trifecta to achieve. And it all comes down to opinion of what someone likes in a game. Lately I have been on the CTG fanboy train. TMB, Cloud Spire and 20 Strong. I currently have Journeys in Middle Earth on my table that I am playing through the Spreading War expansion. I have heard some really good things about Galactic Cruise, it already has a few of the checkmarks for me on that one. I ALMOST picked up Voidfall the other day at my FLGS, one of these days it will be mine. Just not right now.
@@Frodo- I had a trade ready to go to get cloudspire and the guy backed out. I will have it one day. I just wrote and begged the publisher to pass along a prototype from galactic cruise…fingers crossed. I will likely back it. I was watching heavy cardboards stream this morning and it looks great. That might hit the trifecta for me.
@@Neon_Gorilla Agreed it looks quite good. Cloudspire will be getting a crowdfunding campaign in October, it will be for the final expansion for the game. Would be a good time to pick up anything that you want for it at that point in time.
