Our patient today is a Gigabyte "Brix" NUC, model number GB-BSi5H-6200, which was sent to me by a viewer a while ago, and to my everlasting shame, I've only just now gotten around to looking at it. According to its owner, it's completely dead, and doesn't turn on at all. Can we get it working again?

Capacitors do add up and are placed at strategic locations very close to other devices they are providing for. SO yes it is safe to test without the capacitor as it will not be larger than 10uF. I have a multitude of all sizes and values on bandoliers and I usually look at he board I am diagnosing and find an identical one, temporarily remove it and test its capacitance, then it helps choose replacements. As for attacking a PCB with a heat re-work tool, always try to use aluminum foil and captan tape to protect other components. If you are competent, its better to use a micro pen soldering iron and float the suspect device off the board. Just my 10p worth. Thanks for the video, I actually have the same PC but mine is 12v and lower power but is exhibits the same fault.

Great idea with the safety pin, makes life so much easier without spending a fortune on tiny probes

Great but please travel back in time when you recorded the video and zoom in the camera.

Hey, great video! Helped me already a lot and learned so much. The idea with the saftey pin is amazing! What was the paste you put on the capacitor to solder it of and why? I have the same problem as in this video, Brix completely dead, but the Power Button has power after plugging in the power supply. But nothing happens, no light no fan when pressing it. I measured with my multimeter that the Button pulls the value on the previous ~3V to 0V when pressed, so i assume its working correctly. What would have been your next steps if you wouldn't have found out the power is cut off by the saftey Transistor? I'm a bit lost right now. I think i can rule out any short circuits on the board now. Is this correct? Thanks for your help!

I thought this deserved a better explanation than I could provide in a two sentence comment, so I made a video. Does this help? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jqIVpSoClKc.html
