Numa was Pomponius' fourth child, he was born on April 21, 753 BC. Numa was taught philosophy by Pythagoras. Numa married Tatia, daughter of Titus Tatius (king of the Sabines).
In 717 BC, after Romulus died, the Roman Senate elected him as the next king. One of his policies was the construction of the temple of Janus in Rome.
He also established the office of Pontifex Maximus and organized his duties, established the fire offices of Jupiter, Mars, and Quirinus, brought the Virgin Vesta from Alba Longa to Rome, and founded the Fellowship. Apart from that, Numa also overhauled the calendar by introducing the months of January and February.
Numa forbade his people from depicting gods in human or animal form. According to him, gods cannot be described as something that will eventually perish. Numa died in 673 BC and was succeeded by Tullus Hostilius.
