Probably because of the crime in Waikiki where all the tourists stay. You have to address that or you will lose more tourists. Last time I was there I was accosted by Koreans who were the problem in 1989. That was 34 years ago ‼️ I used to live in Waikiki 1968. I attended UH and worked in Waikiki. I worked from 4-12 and walked home alone at night. People used to walk around all night. Cops were everywhere in Waikiki around the International Market Place on Kalakua Avenue. The only problem was the ladies of the night. Mahalo 🤙
We live in UK and used to come to Hawaii every year. We will skip these year most likely. The true reason is crime (especially on Oahu) + MUCH higher prices (especially on Maui, our first choice).
Yes, Please don't come until we can get the prices more affordable, they are out of control, Jan 2nd 2023, we still paying $5.30 per gallon for Gas when the rest of the U.S. is only paying $2.59 per gallon, it will never be affordable here again until they reverse or remove the Jones Act which was created to control all aspects of sanctions and international shipping of goods and to be able to skim all the profit from the Hawaiian Islands at anytime without any oversight - Hawaii is a FREE and Sovereign nation just like Ukraine, and our Kingdom would never run this most precious resource and location into the ground like it has been by illegal U.S. Occupation.
I'm an American who first visited Japan (2009) when the dollar was weak against the yen ($1=88 yen). This past 2022 the yen was incredibly weak against the dollar ($1=almost 150 yen at its weakest). It's since strengthened to around $1=130, but that's still weak. Kind of disappointed the news segment offers zero information on the reasons and only interviewed one random tourist.
I think one of the main contributing factor is due to the value of their currency dropping by a ton and on the other hand everything here has doubled in pricing. It's too expensive (and needless to say it's also expensive even for locals). Are we even working towards going back to pre-pandemic pricing days?
value of the Yen has dropped, Japan is facing their own economic problems, Prices are higher on everything, and crime is skyrocketing and homeless camps everywhere
ill be honest i came from a permanent vacation ive been on internationally for a year and half to get some dental and medical work done and ended up on the streets because hotel prices are so high and i cant afford a plane ticket and your right, nowhere in the world does this many scummy people crawl thru the city like big cockroaches full of hate and drugs. your also right about the prices, i actually just came from japan both okinawa and tokyo and the its at least 3 times as much for anything even the exact same products they sell there are several times more expensive here and forget about the hotel prices here. i could get a capsule hotel and eat 3 times a day plus a snack at lawsons or 711 for $30 to $40. they also have zero litter in japan so im sure a homeless encampment is a tragic sight to them on vaction. they also didnt have any openly visual criminal element in japan, the people didn't even smoke on the street because it is illegal....yeah all in all im sure they cant help but pass on hawaii considering its easily as dangerous as nyc or los angeles and even more expensive. people came under the impression that u.s.a. is number 1 in the psat and now they are like isn't that that place with the race and homosexuality issues that is overpriced and littered with junkies... 😂 it sure aint what it used to be, i actually left because i was embarrassed. people ask me where im from and im like "nevermind that, it where im going that is important".
Used to be our #1 favorite travel spot, however, the last time we were there in 2019 there were plenty of homeless tents, doing drugs and drinking right around the corner, the backstreet of our oceanfront hotel. We decided to walk to the main street to shop around and explore but turned around and went right back to the hotel because of all the homeless activity in and around the park. I mean, we leave LA to get away to "paradise" but come to find out what we're trying to get away from it's right there too in Hawaii. Semi-annual visits on regular basis have now stopped for us and make us think twice every time we think about visiting again since the last bitter taste. It's a shame really, to allow this to happen at Waikiki. No wonder tourism has been slowing down and it'll get worse if left unaddressed!
It only has to do with the value of the Yen vs. the Dollar. Why won't the news outlets report on this obvious fact. Why would anyone travel somewhere that thier money loses half its value just crossing the border? I wouldn't...
What did you guys expect!?! We post so much negativity that they don't want to come. HPD said they were going to make Waikiki a safer place but failed to do so. Hawaiian electric wasn't ready to go green and took it out on us because with everyone going solar they aren't making enough to pay their people.
Why would they want to come here, we’re a dump compared to there.. Japan was freaking awesome and very different than any where else in world… If any of yall been, you know what im talking about..
Hawaii used to be a nice place to visit, but why would anyone want to go now. Locals talk about how they rely on tourism, but then cry about tourists when they do come. Too much crime and making people feel unwelcome, etc. Better places to go spend money than Hawaii, sad to say.
It should be a factor - it is just one more example of a large super power invading a sovereign nation to exploit their resources and leaving nothing but destruction, poison and death in its wake. Please don't come to Hawaii until the people here can get the prices more to be standardized and more affordable, they are out of control. As of Jan 2nd 2023, we still paying $5.30 per gallon for Gas when the rest of the U.S. is only paying $2.59 per gallon, it will never be affordable here again until they reverse or remove the Jones Act which was created to control all aspects of sanctions and international shipping of goods and to be able to skim all the profit from the Hawaiian Islands at anytime without any oversight - Hawaii is a FREE and Sovereign nation just like Ukraine, and our Kingdom would never run this most precious resource and location into the ground like it has been by illegal U.S. Occupation.
