Cool Nuno story -- I was one of the journalists on Rihanna's 777 media tour back in like 2013. Basically she toured 7 countries in 7 days and piled all of us in a 777 plane for the week to go with her. Nuno was her touring guitarist. It was one of the craziest and most tiring weeks of my life. By the end of the trip, flying from Berlin back to NYC for the final show, we were all exhausted. We had all been promised an interview with Rihanna, but it never happened. So we all were pretty over it and just wanted to get back home. As we descended into NYC after another red eye flight, Nuno emerged from first class with his acoustic guitar and started playing. Here we were feeling largely ignored by RiRi and Nuno took it upon himself to show a little love our ways. He played a few songs for around 20 minutes, the entire cabin providing the vocals. I wish I could remember what he played... it was a few songs that everyone knew the lyrics to. It definitely picked us up and I'll never forget it.

Nuno, man, you're taking me back. I was in Boston in the early 1990s and played in the Battle of the bands. I'm pretty sure it was 1993 because it was the crystal Pepsi era. I had my first and last Crystal Pepsi while watching you play after the battle is over. We were a terrible band. But had a blast competing in the battle. Herman and Nuno thank you very much for this interview.

Cool nuno and extreme story here… fall of 91 (around that time) Lol. extreme stayed around a week at a chalet at a resort where I worked in Banff Alberta Canada. I was a housekeeper and knew who these guys were and loved their first couple albums. After they checked out.. I began to clean.. ( and they we’re amazingly clean guests btw ) In the garbage I found a couple pieces of crumpled up paper with what looked to be lyrics etc, which I presumed was what they were working on for the next album.. I folded it up, placed in my pocket.. and to this day is my prize possession as turned out to be my all time favourite band. Extreme and Nuno were absolute legends in the music world. They have and are still leaving their mark wherever and whenever they play. Thank you Nuno! 🙏 god bless.

Numero Nuno! From the second I heard play with me in bill and ted’s excellent adventure I became a true fan! Great interview and can’t wait for the new extreme album. Also props for nuno being a fan and torch bearer for great art and music of all varieties! Back in late 1992 I would regularly crank images and words, iii sides, the black album, roll the bones, nevermind, cherry pie, f.u.c.k and vulgar display of power equally and loved them all and still do!

I love Nuno. He has always been in my top 5 musicians. His solo album “Schizophonic” is a largely (and criminally) ignored masterpiece of pop and alternative rock perfection. Listen to “Crave”, one of the best songs on that album. The man left pieces of his soul on the pop shield of the studio microphone he sang into.

NUNO! Some maybe fun facts: - Troy Grady was at Berklee during the Extreme era and talks about how that experience of seeing Nuno live changed his (guitar) life. - I read/heard the producer of Extreme's self titled debut talk about how diffiicult many/most bands were in the studio and how much 'magic' had to be used to get a good take. He said Nuno just came in and nailed the parts in one take. - He says he wished he had a voice like Kotzen. Kotzen says he had zero singing talent. He would record himself on a boombox, play it back, be a critic, and just try to find one good thing, and build on it, over and over. - Nuno says 'I was just me' when he played Eddie rig. Ha! Nuno has so much articulation and dynamics and control to his playing. Try getting He-Man Woman Hater main riff to sound good. Its damn hard. Or try to capture the free feel of the riffs on the verses from Mutha... or the Smoke Signals intro! - My first Guitar Wars compeition was a medely of Nuno and Randy licks. My most impressive lick, to me, was the string skipping line from It's A Monster... and when I got on stage, I froze up and butchered everything.

42:35 So true, the sound comes from your fingers the way you hold the pick the way you fret a note, everything comes from the person playing the guitar, good quality guitars and amps help but that's a only a very small part of the bigger picture, it's everything coming together even the other band members that make the whole sound of the band, that's where the magic starts.

Musically speaking, Waiting For The Punchline was good old Extreme, but with a different production. What was really different was its artistic concept, and that's what I've always wondered about that phenomenal record. Whereas III Sides was all about spiritual search and 90's activism, Waiting For The Punchline was a brutal Nietzsche-esque punch in the face. That's what makes WFTPL so unique and makes me think why Extreme have been kind of avoiding playing songs from that record live recently.

I remember when More than Words came out. It was right at the cusp of 80s metal... soooo different. A total 180. I didn't fan over the song, I was too young and too punk for an accoustic love song, but the guitar was memorable for sure. Then grunge came out soon after, and that was it for the 80s.

"More than Words" made me buy Pornograffiti and I was really surprised by how hard the rest of the album rocked. And I loved the harder side so much, I convinced friend after friend to give that album a serious listen. It's so nice to see Extreme back and in such great form that they're breaking through the current looping/overproduced/unimaginative music of today with old-school rock and roll with chorus, bridge and solo

I remember when I started playing guitar studying these guys dissect every lick and riff finding out how it works why it works seeing if you expand to it change hands picking technique I did that with every guitar player on the planet well all the good guitar players Randy Rhoads And Nuno definitely drew me. Playing with these guys jamming ripping it up would probably be every guitar player dream come true.

47:10 - What Nuno said is true! I saw them when they played here in the Philippines back in 2014. Not a lot showed up and they played for half an audience the venue could hold. They played their hearts out and gave a memorable performance.

When Nuno was in Atlanta for the Schizo tour, my ex wife and I drove from Alabama with just a basic GA ticket and we got up against the stage and I was just in the zone. I had just gotten an IT Job and cut my hair. But, we met a girl who was dancing and having the best time. She kinda danced with me and my wife (at the time) got pissy with her. She apologized (Which i didnt feel she should've) but she got us back to meet Nuno. She knocked on the door backstage. Nuno answered and I told him (F'n Finally). He looked unsure of what's this dudes deal. Lol. Of course, Eddie was everybody's guy. But, for me Nuno is mine. I explained and he invited us in, asked me if we wanted a beer or something, and even opened it for me. To this day and many many rockstars later. He was the coolest and I've always stuck with guitar and had fun doing it as Just Me because he told me, Just be you Bro. There were only 2 others in the room. A beautiful Red Head and another dude. The girl offered to take pics and even sent them to me. We weren't rushed out or ever seemed like we were wanted to leave. Hell, I had a 2nd beer with em. I have the Nuno Logo I guess you'd call it tatted on my arm and wear it proudly. Always smile and enjoy telling my Nuno story when someone asked about the tat.
