Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Zakk Wylde, Nuno Bettencourt and Tosin Abasi play on the "Generation Axe" Tour. Live at Japan Zepp Tokyo on April 07, 2017 • Extreme - More Than Wo... • Nuno Bettencourt & Tos... • Video
Nuno strikes me as a guy who goes into the studio, records 2 passes of a song and the engineers are like, "Thanks Nuno, we have everything we need". The guy is SO ridiculously talented. His groove, timing, style, control.....Incredible.
For the observant - its nowhere near as hard as he's making it seem, because of use of fast delay. Might have a go at this to confirm. Sorry to shatter the smoke and mirrors :D
This man is really my favorite guitarist for a long time. He's the perfect combination with the killer riffs from Jimmy Page, the wild sound from Jimi Hendrix, the melodic and the dramatic vibratos like Brian May and the virtuosity from Eddy Van Halen and Yngwie Malmsteen. Nuno really created a style of rock, mixing funk, groove, pop and heavy metal. And what a great composer, singer, showman... come on. He's really the greatest! What a nice dude too.
@wilson75 do you hate this guy because he knows more than you do? What's the matter with you? Knowledge must inspire respect just as ignorance should be despised.
I started playing in 94 and never gave it a thought to hear Nuno because I never got into Extreme. I had/have the taste (or lack thereof) of a heavier sound. I have my heroes on the totem pole and Nuno has found his way there for me. Underrated? Absolutely.
You, sir are incorrect. He's the real deal. I just watched him on Life in Six Strings with Kylie Olsson. Music is in his DNA. 10 siblings all musicians growing up poor in a small house filled with every instrument you could think of. The wide age range meant they were all into different genres and he played all genres from a young age. The real deal.😮
he is known and has been since early 90's. I live in a rural town in eastern Canada and they were huge even here., every musician knows Nuno, Extreme has was really bug even back then. "More than words"? a major hit,"get the fink out" etc etc
hes a total beast...his acoustic playing is phenomenal his lead and rhythm playing are obscenely good...he can sing...AND hes so humble and chill in his teaching/interviews....and he can knock the snot out of the overhyped "gods" of guitar....truly remarkable
All of the ghost notes and percussive intricacies are mind blowing. People always focus on guys like Nuno's lead playing but it's his sense of timing and rythym that make him and those like him who they are. As the saying goes "it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing".
There are not any ghost notes or percussive tricks. The massive amounts of delay is fooling your ear. There is much less going on than it sounds like. Check out how it sounds with no delay: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6FfM7ox06no.html.
I remember going to see Bill & Ted at the theater and then the mall scene erupted with this song. I went straight to the local Record Bar and bought Extreme and the soundtrack. Have been a fan of Nuno ever since.
It's like I'm listening to the studio recording. If I didn't witness his had movements I'd call it a backing track. There's pros, legends, then people like this. Absolutely perfect.
Nuno has to be one of THE most underrated guitarists in the world. He's got incredible rhythm skills on top of his solo ability. Throw in his improv chops and you have a complete guitarist.
The real deal. Fan for a looonngg time. Love seeing comments of people that weren’t aware of how good this dude is. Absolute monster. That is still an understatement
Nuno has always been a favorite. You always heard about Vai and Satriani and Gilbert but this guy was always playing at their level and not getting talked about at all. Probably the main, if only, reason I listened to Extreme not to knock them in any kind of way.
I met Nuno in the early 90’s, I have to say he was such a nice genuine guy all around. Talked with us for around 20 minutes, still have his autograph to this day. Never forget that moment 🤘🏼
It’s easy to see that he loves what he’s doing and his passion penetrates his audience. The best of the best share that singular quality. It’s all music to him. There are guys that shred and the blistering speed is all they’ve got. This guy has it, but only pops when the music demands it - never just for the sake of shredding, alone. As it should be.
I've never seen a guitarist start hitting the drummers cymbal mid song as he's still playing the guitar! 😳 This guys guitar playing is unreal. Also, to be doing this at the age of 51 is just even more mind blowing... Dude looks like he's still in his twenties lol Like wtf man. This video made me realize how badass Nuno Bettencourt really is 🤘
check out a guy called jordan cook, aka reignwolf mate, bloody smashingly talented man with or without the rest of his ensemble the guy will fix those one man band type vibes.

I always see that on youtube and laugh as well. The dude's sold millions of albums, toured with some of the best in the business, sells out every night. Say his name and every guitarist knows it and shakes their head in awe. How's he underrated? :D
@@dudleydooright he's not nearly as famous/well known as Vai, Satch, or Yngwie. Most people don't even know who Paul Gilbert is. Saying every (or the majority of) guitarist knows who Nuno is just not true.
@@tommylight1312 The original comment is that Nuno is underrated. He's anything but. We're not discussing a popularity conversation about who the best known guitarist is. Start a new reply if you want to discuss that.
@@dudleydooright Firstly this : Underate - underestimate the extent, value, or importance of (someone or something). Second, I never said anything about popularity. Third, I can comment anywhere I want. Finally, why are you so defensive over something that is pointless?
Mostly because a lot of the songs he played in were cheesy and awful... but with great solos and styling. Extreme were good musicians but bad song writers.
you have to consider that at one point in time this dude's playing was so clean and precise that rumors started spreading that he was doing playback on the concerts... people's brains could not comprehend 🤣🤣🤣Nice to see millions of people finding out about his music 🙏
I’ve seen quite a handful of your comments on my posts and I just wanna appreciate those people whose wishes me good and encourages me and my team, I wouldn’t be the man I am today without people like you, God bless you. I hope to bring you so much happiness and joy 🌹
Everyone is shitting themselves over how “underrated” he is but thats not even remotely true. Seriously what made you people think that? Just because you didnt know him doesnt make him less “famous” or “underrated”. Extreme as a band is very much praised for their musicality and Nuno is almost always mentioned when it comes to shredding or virtuosity because he contains and combines both elements. Anyway, absolutely amazing guitarist
He's underrated because despite being a phenomenal musician, most people have no idea he exists. "Overrated" may not be the best word to describe him, but it works.
Technology guitar player who lift weights of musical expression and technology gymnast is just as retarded as anything that seems difficult oppose to sounding great. I don't listen to music for how incredibly difficult it is to play , I might get enjoyment out of it. But dam , great music is a work of God almighty. The gods has spoken.
Nuno, Vito Bratta and Adrian Vandenberg were three very underrated players back in the day. Nuno is still a guy who can play it all effortlessly. Great to see him showing this new generation what "virtuoso" really means.
Abrar Jahin Nafi maybe he is, but there was a show called Bands Reunited (they play one last show) and I watched every episode and he was the only person to never even let the camera film him. All of the other members were yea, it would be fun, but he wouldn t even talk to the host. So something is weird there
@@chadhero37 Take this for what it is. I used to work at Washburn during the Nuno days. While I did not ever meet him personally the word around the factory was that he was an arrogant jerk. I can neither confirm or deny those statements but it was stated by several who did know him. But who knows. Maybe they were simply jealous?
I remember listening to Extreme's "III Sides to Every Story". It's one of those albums like Sgt. Pepper, Dark Side of the Moon, or Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. You get done with it and you feel like you've just experienced something amazing.
Nuno plays licks that are so musical AND kool. He is on my top 10 list of players along side with Morse, Petrucci, EVH,SRV,Schenker, Bonamasss, Lifeson,Satriani and Gilbert.
Not a lot of people, musicians and so forth realize what a monster musician Nuno is.His virtuosity has only been kept from us because of his time in Extreme .The dude is an absolute shredder on guitar but he can also pound the drums and other instruments with equal proficiency! He is a monster badass musician! I love that his guitar has scars on it from him playing it so savagely! Check out the pick scars above the E string and the scars from the pickup switch! I am sure the fret board is equally scarred from how he has playied it so much. That is the mark of a true master!
That's where the delay comes in. He's only playing half of the notes you hear (in the very beginning anyway) But thats just a killer effect for this song. Nuno can speed pick with the best of 'em.
In addition to the delay the other dude mentioned, he also is probably the best internal hammer-on and pull-off guitarist I've ever seen. His left hand sounds like he's picking strings and he's perfectly timed with his picking hand.
It's not a matter of speed, since he's playing eighted notes at about 200 bpm. While hard for some this speed should be easy for a guitar player at his level. The tricky part is to create this pattern with the delay and keep up the tempo over the duration.
He did gave ego issues in the nineties when he was younger. He has obviously realized the errors in his ways and now, he's one of the most approachable musicians out there. Check out his interviews on Rick Beatto's channel. Nuno gets it now.
I listen again and again... I watch again end again... You touched the sky, man... And I with you.... Someone who can't wait for your concert... With a glass of wine and a view of the sky... I hope my wish will come true💕💕💕💕🎶🎶🎶🎶
Nuno has it all as a guitarist ... exquisite technique, phrasing, he is a great rhythmic guitar, his solos are very well elaborated with multiple techniques in them, he has a beastly right hand, he has a percussive style on rhythm guitar, he has a style very recognizable and his own sound, perfectly blends virtuosity with melody ... too underrated
(Nuno is amazing! A guitar god, I am always amazed with his talent) Nuno es increíble! Un dios de la guitarra, siempre me quedo sorprendida por su talento 👌
I wrote a 25 minute long piece for synthesiser using orchestral sounds and it was based on a theme by nuno bettencourt. He is a genius without whom I couldn't have written the music I did. Thankyou Mr bettencourt .
