@@garrettsmith8286 love your answer mate 😆 married here too , three kids. She use to follow with me some short rides, 2-3 ours but honestly I'm bit nervous when she's passenger in case of any accident so we don't get hurt both of us.
I did laps on the Nordschleife in 1999 and 2000 on the exact same model VFR800i; had mine in 1998 new. Doing those laps was one of the great experiences of my life, thanks for letting me re-live that moment.
Beautiful lap. It shows you have experience on the nordschleife. I loved hearing you scrape pegs, and that gear noise is better than an exhaust note sometimes ;)
Thank you, Sean. 10 years of Nurburgring from 2008 to 2017. But after this lap I had to stop my experience. Read here: 4piegheconcapirobi.blogspot.com/2019/08/nurburgring-06-settembre-2017.html
@@Capirobi Amazing experience in the referenced fall and subsequent betrayal by officials. Sad to hear of criminals in action. Very exciting ride of yours, though. This world has plenty of criminals, some in high places.
@@DNomer damn bro... I read everything you wrote.. so sorry about that experience. You'd get justice. Karma is real, if nothing bad happens to those responsible, something good shall come your way. Something better than what you lost and the pain you suffered. Keep your head up bro and ride safe. Cheers!
I had one of the first VFR800s in early 1998 and I went to Nurburgring in 1998 and 1999. Great experience, still have an old VHS tape of my best lap , need to get round to digitizing it really. Great sound as well, brings back good memories.
I own one of these bikes, and am always amazed by the power of it. Every few weeks I come back and watch this video, just to remind myself of what it can do, how it sounds when it is pushed to its limits. The perfect bike for street riding. A balance of comfort, style, raw power, refinement and balance. You cannot go wrong with a 5th gen VFR.
Wow, thank you. That is the closest I'll ever come to riding the Nurburgring track. To ride it via the cockpit of an experienced racer was a treat I do not have the skills or nerve to copy.
Happy to gave you this sensations. :-) But it didn't finish well. Here the day after: 4piegheconcapirobi.blogspot.com/2019/08/nurburgring-06-settembre-2017.html
@@Capirobi I crashed mine because the one speed sign that was absolutely necessary on a twisty.highway was knocked down and not replaced. It was the only seriously decreasing radius corner and the only corner that had no signage, other than the corners that didn’t need a speed reduction. It went from a high speed sweeper into a U-turn and I met the only car coming the other way right at the apex. Didn’t want to risk a low side into his car, so I passed him on the wrong side, onto the dirt shoulder, where I apologized to my bike, puulled it on its side, wheels up into the Armco barrier, pulled my top leg back so it didn’t get sliced by the bottom of the Armco and that was it. My front wheel hit the first available post and the next thing I was sliding on my ass on the dirt. The bike must have gone straight sideways and flipped onto its other side in the middle of the highway. I was wearing leathers and didn’t have a bruise or scratch. Must have been going 70 mph when I crossed in front of the car. Amazing how much time you have when time slows down. Still, I had to make a hard decision real fast. Craziest moment I’ve had on a bike by far. Don’t care for another. Bike was trashed, but the frame was ok. Rebuilt it with mostly new OEM parts. Only kept the rear plastic because it was the only unbroken piece. Rear wheel, swing arm, brake and rear subframe were ok, exhaust can & rear pegs were ok, side a centre stands were ok, engine was ok, upper triple clamp was ok, wiring harness was ok. The rest was trash. Got a really nice paint job, with a Porsche colour & had custom decals made to look like factory. Still riding that bike. In fact, I rode it tonight. It gets lots of complements from the young riders who don’t know what it is and think it’s brand new. I’ll sell my 2006 CBR1000RR before I’ll sell my 2000 VFR. Putting that VFR back together cost me big$$, but I owed it to her after taking the hit for me. She’s still a sweet ride.
I've got a 2000 VFR and I AutoX an '85 AW11 - This guy knows a racing line and how to keep this bike in the powerband. Love hearing my this thing scraping pavement in a lean. With this camera position you mostly hear the gear driven cams and valve-train nosise. A mic near the exhaust would do the bike more justice in terms of sound. Doesn't matter. Nice drive!
Hi Jesse. Nurburgring has been part of my life for 10 years and 279 laps but now I had to stop to go there (sigh). In any case I agree with you: VFR 800 have an exciting sound and gave me satisfactions even if it has its limits.
@@Capirobi I haven't any laps on the Nordschleife and enjoyed your lines and was actually supriced a few times where you picked a way better line than I would have done. I just think some of your down-shifts was hard - but might be the diff. in torq. curv from my '90 750 :-)
I agree. Same sensation here - i'm proud owner of a '98 800 FI. He know exactly how to drive our bike. Smooth and fast. And i love the timing gears whine. Capirobi, are you Italian?
Sweet, I don't have your ability level and at 70 never will......but it was fun to ride with you! Maybe I'll take my 2007 VFR for a spin tomorrow if the weather is decent. :) Where is your video camera mounted?
Is this bike standard?! It's reving quit easy......and much more than i expected from a "sportstouring bike". I'm very interested in a vfr 800, so i like to hear it from you. And when it is not; what is chanched? Lots respect for your driving skills sir!!! Nice lines en good feeling with your bike!!
Since he won't reply I will share my experience I had a zx6r which is lighter than the 1st gen vfr 800 by miles yet the vfr feels lighter when I drive it... Because of the way the weight is distributed it has a loser center of gravity... My point is I prefer my old 2000 vfr Compared to my 2008 zx6
I have a 1999 vfr. I can assure you it revs just like mine. It will comfortably redline, and go a bit further if you let it easily. The problem I have with that is the machine is so much more capable than I am☹
good one mate just proves you dont need modern tackle to have fun massive vfr fan myself got 3 of them music to ears when v4 is on song good man on a vfr will beat any body keep it bud .
Wow look at ol' betsy go! Watched this on a tv, was really fun to watch! Sorry for what happened but if a comment can help, you did a great fucking job on that lap. It'd be awesome to learn how you did that.
I have a 5th gen VFR 800Fi. I can assure you it’s not heavy and definitely not slow. I feel better on the VFR than my previous GSX-R 750 K8. Less power but the V4 has a wider power range and the frame is like a sword in the corners. She does exactly what you want and can change direction very quickly. Wide and fast corners are her hunting ground but she can handle very well even tight and twisty roads.
Amazing riding! I have a gorgeous '98 VFR800 that I am debating about taking to a track to learn on (ridden for years, but never tracked a bike before). After seeing this, maybe starting on the Viffer isn't such a bad idea after all. I'd prefer a 600rr or R6, but this might be almost as good.
Do it Tyler... I've taken mine on a trackday or two every year since I bought it 15 years ago. I can assure you, you won't be outclassed on anything running normal road rubber. And you'll learn so much you can't on the road... like how to brake harder than you thought ever possible. Enjoy. :-)
The VFR is not so slow, but if try other motorbikes with 140 hp, high torque and a quite better frame and suspensions, you will feel the difference. In any case the VFR 800 is an excellent motorbike.
flapper and air intake hose are gone for sure . did the same with my 06 . huge difference in power . sure he probably has a power commander and after market headers too . love my bike even more now .
Hi Jean. This VFR 800 was all original. No modifications, only changed the exaust. Unfotunately happened this:4piegheconcapirobi.blogspot.com/2019/08/nurburgring-06-settembre-2017.html
I've got a 2000 with 126 miles on it. It's a long story, but I had some health problems and couldn't ride for a while. On another point, it's a crime that this circuit isn't in F1
Great video and excellent skills by the rider: 274 laps! I’m the excited owner of a new 2015 VFR Interceptor but owned a ‘98 and will miss the sound of those gear-driven cams. Thanks for showing us what a VFR is capable of in expert hands at The ‘Ring.
That's a better camera setup & clearer picture than most pro racers show ... I'm also a 5th Gen owner, not had her on a track yet, would love a blast around here though, mostly spoilt by knobheads in cars.
