Canonically speaking, you can, however, you must at least have ONE disease, either that or put it in a jar, puke in it, THEN cap it and put it in the dampest darkest area for at least *1 year.*

Id argue nurgle's main emotion is apathy. Often times apathy can come across as a sense of acceptence of ones terrible situation which also where the jollyness of nurgle may come from as acceptence of one self or situation can keep your day going. Depression apathey acceptence is cycle of nurgle
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I really feel for Kugath. When he was a nurgling Kugath accidentally fell into papa Nurgles cauldron and consumed a mighty plague he was brewing becoming a great unclean one since then he’s hard felony of depression guilt and self loathing trying so hard to create the perfect plague so in his mind making it up to papa Nurgle. When in reality Papa Nurgle couldn’t be more proud but for some reason didn’t want to tell Kugath or give give him a hug of reassurance, So Kugath has spent literally centuries ina. Constant state of melancholy and self loathing to the extent he once said he wished he wasn’t born like a guilty 5 year old constantly trying to prefect his plague like a OCD chief.
Probably because he knows that in this he will continue to create great plagues, he's like a child that wants so badly to impress his parent and so goes above and beyond to do so when in reality the parent is extremely proud and he just doesn't know it, Kugath goes above and beyond most Great Unclean ones and is revered by all followers of Nurgle, the shame is all in his head lol

First off, you're my new favorite lore channel. The others are great, but yours resonates perfectly with me. It's like having a friend diving hard into the lore and reporting back in with all the cool, weird shit he's learned and is so excited to talk about. Super relatable and warms my heart. Secondly, I think an aspect of Nurgle you didn't touch on is that he's the life, growth, and rebirth just as much as the god of death, decay, and pestilence. The two go hand in hand. We focus on the death part because it horrifies us, but he isn't trying to kill people intentionally. He sees it as developing new life forms in diseases, viruses, molds, and bacteria. It's unfortunate for us that most of the life he wants to create is utterly incompatible with our current situation. The beasts are a perfect illustration. They want to show everyone how much they love them and bring joy into their lives to replace the fear they see them experiencing. The same goes for other gods, too. I get why you skipped that (peeling back the layers reveals a massive rabbit hole of different aspects of everything), but if you wanted a "chaos gods 201" lecture topic, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on it.
Although that might be part of the esoteric nature of Nurgle, he's also a chaos God, willed into existence by the fear of death, not the love of birth and life but the fear of also losing it. As well as that, contextually he's locked into eternal space war with everything, so his passions for accelerating the birth-death-rebirth cycle as probably always maligned by his need to wage grimdark war on life and chaos. I would like to know what similar redeeming factors you know of about the other chaos gods though? I believe Khorne at least believes in a strict orderly code of honour that is almost chivalric, so life would be and endless purge but at least you know where you stand. Tzeentch I don't really know if you can call evil, he's just unknowable and just as likely to make really good things happen as he is the most horrible things so long as it suits his unknowable desire for constant deception and delirious madness. But Slaanesh surely is just an all out a 21+ Jeffrey Dahmer / John Wayne Gacey / Frank Pazram conobite nightmare
I love the beasts of nurgle, just big unintentional murder puppies. Also headcannon that Kugath is favoured by Nurgle cause he is happy one of his little nurglings got bigger and stronger and that personal improvment made grandpappy Nurgs proud
I see him as a lazy stoner. The rest of the Chaos Gods are fighting one another and scheming, while Nurgle is lying back while his diseases do all the work, 'chill bro's its all gonna work out.'
One thing you didn't mention about Plaguebearers is that they are... miserable. They can experience other emotions, but the average Plaguebearer is a shambling, depressed daemon who's purpose is to be Nurgle's main forces AND be his tallymen. They count constantly, tallying how many diseases they have, how many are affecting the planet. They are OBSESSIVE over this counting, for it's in their mind to calculate and account for every disease. It's why Heralds of Nurgle are important. Sure a Great Unclean one is important for his girth, but the mind of a Herald is much needed when Nurgle Warbands emerge to spread his plagues. Gosh don't even get me started on Sloppity Bilepipers and Spoilpox Scriveners... Those are horrifying-
Of the four, Papa Nurgle is my absolute fave. His followers love him enough to call him grandfather even if he looks like he does. Also a little sad you didnt mention the songs and chants that the nurglings(?) sing. They're just having fun and want to spread the love
All of the chaos god have been the most powerful but I find it funny that tzeentch is the only one to actually win the great game in the past but let himself get beaten as he wanted to keep the great game going.
Those Marines that cut off from the Warp happened in two instances. Once in the Siege of terra, and once while fighting the Tyranids with their "Shadow in the Warp" effect. As far as I know, that is.
The Grand Father isn't just my favourite chaos god by far but honestly the only Path of genuine hope and love in the grim dark (grim enough and dark enough for the only hopeful way is to embrace despair to emencipate yourself from hope and join the circle of life -and death- queue to zombie Mustapha to play us off.
I have plans to add a Nurgle force to my Chaos Kitchen Sink Grand Alliance. All three power levels (cultists, marines and deamons) for all five Chaos allegiances. Wish me luck.
I think of all the chaos factions, Nurgle is interesting since he occupies both horror and levity in warhammer. Honestly joining the other factions seems like that is where the suffering starts, and joining Nurgle is where the suffering ends. He’s really playing the long game.
i'm gonna share my insane personal Chapter/warband here 'cause it's nurgle related and i like talkin' about my boys. "The Remnants of Despair" are a Nurgle aligned LOYALIST bunch of what was originally Night Lords. i know that sounds insane but hear me out because i collect Loyalist AND Chaos marines and wanted to paint them up all to match, i came up with this as an explanation, "A whole bunch of night lords got lost in the warp for like 200 years their time, and much like the Death Guard they fell to Nurgle in order to survive. But still trapped on their ship with nothing to do but rationalise and dwell on things. they've come to the conclusion Nurgle is despair. The imperium is a rotting hell without hope. Therefor the Emperor is Nurgles living avatar. They've emerged back into the galaxy convinced the only way to serve Nurgle is to make sure NO ONE WINS. There is only war. Forever. When they get to a battlefield/war they start attacking whoever's winning, loot both sides for the cause, and fuck off back into space. Trying to recruit Marines from all sides chapters and walks along the way. often by force. no one likes them, but that's fine it just means they too feel despair and so their very existance serves Nurgle that way too!
This is about as heretical as some of it gets. Konrad Curze would hate them (because Night Lords problems). Imperium would hate them because this is so heretical, it comes a full circle and then still kicks the pedal through the floor. Other Chaos Warbands would hate them because they are backstabbing bastards who also think themself as loyalists. I wouldn't be surprised if they would even manage to piss off Nurgle's forces in one way or another.

While Death Guard wasn't my first army it became by far my largest army when 8th rolled out and Nurgle Deamons being a close second, Nurgle really just stuck his gross claws deep into my heart from the moment i saw him ❤
my favorite nurgle attack, is the great unclean one in dawn of war 2 retribution fucker uses his intestines, to lash out, grab your marines, and hurl them across the arena its fucking vile, i love it
Nurgle is arguably the best chaos god Plus it's fun to kitbash nurgle stuff. Unfortunately they nerfed the super awesome version of disgustingly resilient in 9th.
Customizing Plague Marines is _the best._ I used to have a squad of hand-made Plague Marines, with things like their yellow, rotting guts hanging out, or mold slowly growing over their entire body. Their Champion was nicknamed "Rotten Ram-Head Guy." I'm sure you can guess why. I need to restart my Nurgle army...
on a nurgle world in the warp... demons inviting chaos marines and worshipers for tea and chess making small talk how everyones various sickness is going etc with nurgle making personal manifestations for those that struggles with them suggesting alternative ones if they cant cope with the current one , ensuring they not feel any pain from it either way etc is the 'chill' my mind conjures up XD

Grandfather's Blessing upon you, Brother! I am also a huge Nurgle fan. I play Loyalists as well, but Nurgle's philosophy genuinely strikes a chord with me. I like Space Marines, but I _love_ Nurgle.

I always wanted to start DG. Got both battleforces, combat patrol... boarding patrol... And I thought - 10th edition will be my edition. Mine and papa's Nurgle. Yeah... we all know how that turned out... Still my fav faction tho. Both style -wise and lore-wise.
When I see Kugaths cauldron I think of how Asians have the "forever brine". I forgot what it's called but they use the same vinegar/salt/etc to pickle cucumbers, kimchi, etc.

Speaking of the Great Unclean one attack animation... Someone at the shop I go to was going to mod a Great Unlcean one to have... more generous cheeks? I gave them the idea that while they were doing that, they should also add a large green cloud eminating from those newly enhanced cheeks with a few Nurglings in the billows, and also a speech bubble that said, "Burrito!"

I'm a late bloomer. Bought a few brave marines but in a year found nurgle. I'm very creative and one of my fav things to watch on youtube is fishing. That is why most of my miniatures become fishermen 😄For the nurgle it will be very funny cause they search for rotten fish. Of course I make and add the fishes!
The fact I can watch such things while eating spaghetti worries me. Must be my strong stomach. Not all do well on the infectious disease unit as a nurse.
I have to say you did miss one thing about nurgles “love”. It’s a jealous, avaricious love. He loves you, but only if you follow him, and if you disagree with his gifts, then you’re just wrong and you should I stem to your grand father because he knows best. At least that’s how the liber chaotica characterized it.
