Getting that first nursing job interview can be tough. In this video Mike talks about his trick for getting your foot in the door. I honestly believe that once they see you & can place a face to your name, your changes of getting the interview are much higher!
If this does not work though... always remember it is a numbers game and keep on keeping on :D

Omg I have to agree with going through the HR because I tried speaking directly to the nurse manager but they won't let me. Thanks for the tip! This is great.

Thanks for the video! I just recently had an interview and the only thing they really asked was "Tell me about yourself", which I answered. They asked some other more informal questions about my background and gave me great detail about the job I was applying for and how great the job was, but at the end I had to ask about the time frame for decision making. I was also concerned because the nurse manager didn't give me any info to contact her with questions, although it was a video interview so she couldn't just hand me a card, but I was still concerned that meant she wasn't really interested. Ugh, the wait and wondering is killing me! It will be a week tomorrow.

I was wondering why she kept looking directly at him during the video... After seeing the bloopers I now know that he couldn't get the words out! Great video!

You're recommending applicants bypass the Human Resource Dept ~ suicide! Nurse Recruiter's in larger hospitals handle the upfront screening, you contact the Nurse Manager and you'll be labeled immediately. There's also a major difference in Recruitment between a large medical center and a small county hospital. There's also a BIG difference between a Unionized hospital and one that isn't. You guys don't have the depth to give this type of advice, IMO.

+David Dube (Oregon) Actually, I've had the very opposite experience. The nursing managers actually took the time to talk to me in their offices and accepted my resume. Face to face is considered bold and a step above what they expect. I think they appreciated me taking that initiative. Unfortunately, as a new grad I was not accepted at the time but they appreciated my efforts and lead me to another sister hospital who is accepting new grads. I'll be going there soon.

narutoyondaime14 A quick question, was that a union hospital and what state? It rather surprises me that you didn't have a job by graduation. That's why I was wondering the state.

+David Dube (Oregon Homesteader) I went and found the Nurse Managers from the unit & dropped my resume off.. I had their name on the cover letter as well... and then got interview a few days after! ....friends of mine who have applied online has no luck with getting one.... it does work! the nurse managers are very nice :)

This maybe a bad idea but, I thought if I go there and ask about the hospital and why it's a good place to work, they would want to interview me cause I'm interviewing them. But your idea is great!

Do you think showing up and hand delivering your resume is too intrusive and desperate? It has worked for me in the past, but it feels awkward and nerve-racking.

Hi there, I just found your channel! Very informative! I have recently graduated nursing school and passed my nclex and I'm now looking for a job. This is my second career and I am a little older and have 2 young children. I am worried that I will not find a "day"job being a new and inexperienced RN and don't feel like I can work nights with my current family responsibilities. Any advice? Is it possible to find a day job? Did you start with night shifts? If so how did you manage? Maybe a video on this topic? Thanks!

Hello! I have a question. Should I say that I am currently working as a CNA Instructional Assistant part time? Or should I not say it. The position I am applying for is night shift and per diem (minimum 4 days a month)... I am worried that if I do they might think I will not have time, but I think this brings out a good quality about me so I'm torn XD

Thank u! The interview was 5min short.the interviewer was was talking about herself the whole time.she only asked me 2 questions.describe yourself and do u have any questions for me.thats all.she said she will send me an email but still haven't gotten anything yet.so will see

My question is how to handle the job hunting process.... this is what i mean... I applied to numerous jobs last week and I got a interview 3 days after I applied...I just passed the interview and got offered the job the day after my interview. What i'm afraid of is that I haven't let all my doors open for opportunities.. but I guess it's ok because it's part time - perm - 4x q2weeks 8hr shifts and I could still work as casual/part time at other jobs. I want to know what is the professional etiquette of the do's and don'ts... should you quit if you find better opportunity, or do you let them know somehow? Or maybe work there for a minimum of 6 months? Or what if the time frame to accept the job offer is not long enough/too short. And what about negotiating salary? I know in other professions you can, but as a new entry level nurse? Thanks Caroline!

Be open and honest with this. They can't be upset if you are open about possibilities regarding better employment options in terms of full time vs. part time or benefits. If they are not offering these to you and you're honest about it, they may be able to offer you full time employment, match benefits, or they are not worth working for.

Thanks for the feedback. I got the job at the hospital I wanted... However I'm not doing well. I made a mistake. And now I'm not sure what's happening for me next. Working on the med surg floor is definitely nothing like the clinical placement on the floor.

Talk to your HR dept and your unit manager, they will hopefully find better placement for you. You may need to move if it's that bad. I realized there was about 30% increase in pay in long term care coming from the hospital.

dependent on who manages the unit/decides on the hiring, typically a unit manager, director of nursing, you can contact Human Resources, they will give you an unbiased response to who is doing the hiring.
