Nuuk, "The tip", is the capital and largest city of Greenland, and the seat of government for the Sermersooq municipality. Nuuk has a population of 15469, making Nuuk one of the smallest capital cities in the world by population!
Elena Lina please read the message completely I know what you are talking about. I was just saying about people sitting on the train roofs. It has occurred in past but the recent condition are not that bad, yaa but not very good either. But let me tell you that nothing is gonna happen if we continue to hate are country. Rather we should try to change the condition of the country. Majority of the population of a country is busy in talking about the government fighting about BJP vs Congress. But the reality is that both of the Government and all of the parties currently are doing nothing. We are ruled by shit leaders which are followed and also prayed by low iq population I think all of the youth of the country have to take a stand to change the current situation of the country and believe me we have enormous power to do that we are one of the most youngest country in the world and that's the biggest asset we are having. It might take a little time but it is possible maybe we can make our own party wid zero corruption and zero tolerance to any injustice. Believe me bitching about the country is not going to take us anywhere we have to take some stand afterall we are the future of the country.
Elena Lina But the problem with dictatorship is that it needs to be of a very wise and genuinely honest person which we generally don't find in our politics. Otherwise it can take a very brutal turn and mild dictatorship would be transformed to a complete and harmful dictatorship for the country. But I find your opinion quite good because if we take a look on majority of population with an unbiased view, we will be able to see that almost no one or a very less fraction of the population actually cares about the country so yes a mild dictatorship can be a good idea and another plus point of the dictatorship is that government can take time to actually develop the country because in democracy whatever you have to do you have to do in 5 years otherwise nobody is going to give you vote in the next elections. But the main problem is that nothing is going to happen by just giving opinions in the comment section of a video. We actually have to do something for the country. But sometimes I also feel that if we guys actually take a stand to do something for the country then most of the people will not support us and will think of it as a joke by some random people and they will also Scold us by saying "abhi tum bacche Ho tum kuch nahi kar paoge Thode Bade hoge to Pata chalega" and some other bullshit. Also the ruling party BJP will not appreciate and promote the work of some other new organisation. so yes convincing 1.3 billion people would be a very very hectic task. Obviously it look close to impossible. If we will ban slum people to have kids then our own people will disagree with that and will say that we are doing injustice to poor people we are against poor people and other bull shit like that so I guess one child policy for slum people would rather be a good idea. But I am pretty sure that these guys are not going to do good with it, as these are living in 19 century they cannot ask for condom any other such things from the shop. I Agree with you that it is close to impossible, but this does not mean that it cannot be done we just need a quiet sharp and intelligent thinker a very high IQ person to just design the method which can change the country as well as the countrymen, who can make thinking of the country man progressive.
School Kahooter Only from time to time if they're lucky and warm air is pushing that far from the south. Weather over there is very changeable and one day max temperature can reach as high as 20 C, but next day it will rapidly drop to 4-5 C. Worst kind of weather
For all of y’all still commenting on “how depressing looking” Nuuk is; this was filmed 9 years ago. And it happened to be a cloudy and grayish day, the day they filmed this. A lot has changed throughout the years; more taller buildings and modern cars and other different things. We do have schools, café/restaurants, beauty salons, clothing stores, movie theater and other things u can think of :)
I am pretty sure it is not the city itself that looks depressing to most, it is the overcast sky, obvious cold and lack of greenery. Sure, it was filmed on an overcast day ... but Nuuk has far more overcast and partly cloudy days than sunny days ... and that is true throughout the year, not only winter. The city itself seems fairly nice.
It was indeed intended to be clickbait, Erik the red named it that to attract settlers, by telling people that it was a green prosperous land... He discovered it and settled there after he was vanished from Iceland due to murder.
As a Scandinavian it is really odd looking at. It all looks so familiar. Even how people dress, walk, the whole vibe. But then everybody's faces are Asian looking instead. It is like Scandinavia in an alternative universe.
@@someguy4512 And its probably because they're all cold weather countries and they need houses that can easily be put up in cold weather places. I'm sure you have a very small window of the weahter cooperating to put up a house so you're limiting to what kind you can put up.
I was born in Greenland but I lived in Manitoba Canada. I moved here to Canada 3 years ago. In Greenland it's not bad at all! We just sometimes prefer a simple life. It may be grey but there is a lot of nice culture snowmans and more things you can learn about!
Question...about 1000 years ago, Vikings had farms on Greenland...hence the name. I did not see one single tree in this video...does that mean there are none?
@@dongertan3320 i hope that is a joke... i live right next to the danish longboat museum and have personally seen a longboat (the remains) being pulled out of the fjord. the bible idk? probably fake🤷♂️
Imagine you're the president of a country with nuclear weapons and forgot to add a "pause" between "Nuuk" and "the largest city of Greenland" when talking to your inner circle.
Don't be offended. If you asked someone where New Zealand was 10 years ago, 90% had no idea. Greenland is certainly a mysterious country to me, and judging by the number of likes my comment has received I'm guessing I'm not the only one to think so.
This style of video was atually really fun to watch. Not your typical "i travel look at me with this background" but an actual, this is how the city is running without my commentary just look at how life goes on. I really enjoyed this
+Samuel fanai it's not supposed to be green. I'm Scandinavian(Finland,Denmark,Sweden,Norway) and Greenland is riled by Denmark. IF you read its history you will see why it's not supposed to be green and it's really cool.
Back then when settlers were first coming to Greenland, they saw that it wasnt green at all and just called it that to trick people into coming and settling there, because when they decided to move to greenland, they saw it was grey but they couldnt move back :)
+Samuel fanai actually other european settlers came to iceland originally and it was all green, and then when they went to greenland it was all ice, so they switched up the names so the other travelers would be confused and go to greenland, and the settlers who found iceland would keep it a secret
I am so grateful this is here, I miss my home dearly and it sadness me so many has no idea what Greenland is or simply call it depressing. I bet where people come from, the wheather isn’t always flattering, just like in this vid, might be the most unflattering state to film in. The summer is beautiful and should be experienced, winter likewise! Don’t judge a book by it cover. Thank you, whoever filmed this and uploaded it, it warms me to see my birth country.
tahir alizada the houses video taped were just of the minority of houses there. I haves lived in Greenland for half of my life and I'll tell you, the house I lived in looked modern, a lot more than those of the American suburbs.
Depressing for some yes, especially at this time of the year. Imagine, summer time. Ive seen it, been there, its beautiful. Summer and winter are amazing opposite experiences, just like black and white. Its the grey area when switching from summer to winter thats not so great, all the grey weather and melting ice and snow with water everywhere. But its worth it.
Double edged sword for me. It never gets dark for months and then it never gets light for months. That's definitely not for everyone. I have spent one year north of the Arctic circle and it was driving me crazy already. I never knew how much I missed the sun until it was gone. And then I never knew how much I missed dark nights so I could sleep until the sun never set. I guess people adjust, but it's hard. At least it was for me. We had a countdown to when the sun would come back. Every morning we would look out the window and watch the sun on the mountain nearby come lower and lower until we could finally see the sun itself for a few seconds one day. Werid experience.
@@politicallycorrectredskin796 same thing for me living in Amsterdam, always the same amount of daylight and night, I got confused what season it actually was. How I missed the long summer days and sleeping on the long winter nights
@@aggi999 Have you actually lived in Holland? Shortest day is just under 8 hours between sun up/sun under. Longest day around 17 hours. More than twice as long and when you live away from cities you can see light at the northern horizon at 2 in the morning in summer time.
This video just makes me appreciate more of my location and the beauty that I am surrounded by 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Thank you for sharing , I am staying !!!
are you Greenlander?Im very curious to know that.and would you willing to share me more photos or videos about your country?you know,It's rarely to seen the view, that it's so beautiful than anywhere although my country(China) is also have many landscapes and famous scenery.🤝😄
Actually most homes and transport etc in places like belgium, Germany and north of them have heating instead of AC, don't even have to go that extremely far up.
yup... completely normal for any building or vehicle, unless you live in a country as hot as the Sun. I've never in my life heard of a vehicle that doesn't have a heater installed, and even a desert gets cold a night, so only a fool wouldn't provide his family a way to get warm...
+sarah paxton It has nothing to do with artificial live or not you stupid internet and new generation hater. Without internet there is nearly no communication with the rest of the globe, lack of knowledge and no data transfer with the rest of the world. Greenland is already pretty isolated so the lack of internet would be very fatal.
+sarah paxton Right, and yet, here you are on a PC or smartphone on the Internet using RU-vid. Are you saying that *you* don't have a "real" life? Why would you do that? :/ Also, the first letter of your first and last name should be capitalized if you wish to appear more professional.
What a beautiful place. I mean, the people living there might get sick of the cold weather; but to me, that is a beauty to behold. It looks peaceful and disconnected from the troubles of the planet.
I've been there 3 times and it was sunny each day I visited. St. Johns Newfoundland is around the same temps but more windy and rainy. The small communities are much more beautiful and peaceful.
Wow... such a ??? I do not want to go there. To me, it looks bleak. I like color. Except for the slight variation of colors on the very uniform houses, everything looks white, shades of grey and maybe hints of something that looks vaguely green in the water and rocks. To each their own... I suppose.
@@peternesbitt Maybe they don't have it so good. Maybe they do. There are a lot of folks who live in beautiful places, with lots of money, but they're miserable. I'll bet there are some folks in Nuuk who are very happy and they're laughing at us knuckleheads living in nice big houses with lots of stuff to get distracted by.
Sadly that it is impossible for North American Airliners coming to or from the America's can't reach Greenland only it's owner Denmark aka Greenland's mom and Iceland are possible for passenger flights
@@stevem5271 why would the world care about Trump's economic advantages over China? I'll tell you who doesn't care - Denmark. As they sent Trump and his illusions of self-grandeur packing.
With the ice pushing back it makes a great strategic naval port to monitor worldly affairs Alaska to cover the eastern flank of Russia and Greenland to cover the Western flank of Russia, the US submarine arsenal is literally a stone throw away from St, Petersburg, and the Secret Russian naval ports located between in Severodvinsk and Arkhangelsk
If they didn't paint the houses, they'd probably become extremely depressed. It's already very bleak and cold, having no colour to brighten it up makes it even worse. It is a necessity.
Actually it's true, it is at the transition between a colder end of a sub polar-oceanic climate and a milder end of a subarctic (boreal) climate, and registers at plant hardiness zone 5b or maybe 6a, but falls into heat zone 1...so the raw temperature of the winters are the same as a place of a much more southern latitude but they last much longer and there is less light, and the summers are nowhere near as hot as those of a continental climate of the same zone.
rlt94 Raw winter temperatures aren't even used in places like Chicago; try factoring in its windchill ... been there in July & August, & I was freezing! Just like S. Central Texas summers; we need 5he heat index, not just the temperature. One reason I always check "how it feels", which is most accurate for how I should dress ... 😐
This is true, and I reside in south central Texas also, but the climate zone system goes by raw temperature and not wind chill or heat index. This system (in conjunction with the sunset zones and heat zones) was primarily designed to tell which plants are capable of growing where.
It'll never happen. Not even a Winter Games. Greenland is not part of the International Olympic Committee as a National Olympic Committee. Unless they go ahead and separate from Denmark and become independent. Even then, they're just too small to even consider hosting such a large event. Their best hopes is the Arctic Winter Games.
It's not a walk away you fucking idiot. That shit is an entire goddamn island in the North, go walk there right now & see how far you get. Oh and a "slice of europe" yeah that's gay ass Montreal right INSIDE Canada, you idiot. Look no further.
Aside from the really cold weather it looks like a really good place to live. I wonder if the Canadian and American government could also provide this quality of living to my fellow native americans in Alaska and Nunavut.
I don't know about Canada but in Alaska the natives own mostly single family homes themselves and earn their own living. Some have developed large businesses. As a whole the Native community does well off the income from oil and gas leases on their land. They don't need the government to tell them how to live. Do you? Or do you just think Native peoples aren't as capable of making decisions as folks in Brooklyn? I don't know where you're from or what your tribe is, but most of my friends and relatives who are Natives are as fully capable of running their own lives and families quite as much as anybody else.
Thanks for posting video of this fascinating country. Must admit I would detest living there, for many reasons, but I wish all the residents happiness and good fortune. #
It actually has around 40 towns and villages. However, the only one of significant size is Nuuk. Zoom into Greenland on Google Earth and explore. You’ll find some interesting places
daniel phillpotts dude, stfu. Stop talking shit about my country. I lived there for half of my life and would easily say that those years were the best of my life. You've never been there so why are you judging so god damn quickly?
TheMabes69 WTF Nope it's just Many people grow up bad In Greenland In 1960 AS kid! So when they Got kid's they don't know what to Do they hit Them Or Beat Them Or doing bad Thing's that i don't know! Im Greenlandian i grow up happy and my family!
TheMabes69 they lived here happy for centuries, it's only since 1960 suicide rates are climbing, as Danish government evacuated many small settlements and gathered them in towns giving flats in cooperative block houses. So there grew a generation of problems. Previous generation didn't work as they were hunting and fishing. Next generation had to work for wages and make living of the money as Danish government introduced licenses and quotas for fishing and hunting and built meat and fish processing factories. So this generation was too modern to understand and find common language with their parents and grandparents, but in the same time they were not modern enough just yet for capitalism society. In result this generation become alienated and misunderstood by other age groups. They hardly knew how to live themselves and obviously had no idea how to bring up their children so they fit in this new society. As a result this generation was torn apart by alcoholism, depressions, mental disorders, conflict ridden relationships, violence, unemployment and poverty what was a true nonsense as everything they needed was right there around them, but new era of globalisation though differently. So your statement that this video explains high rates of suicide is very preconceived without trying to understand real reasons.
Honestly..... I know it's cold, but they have to embrace some kind of festivity like a block party going on somewhere. Jeez Louise !! If all it is is shopping for food there and sitting by the fire, I can see why!! How about some kind of festivities. Are snow ball fights forbidden there? How about carving some ice statues......hello, hello Greenland? I feel like rushing over there and opening up a night club!!
Have you ever seen the video about the coldest town in the world (in Siberia) It's called Yakutsk and it literally makes this place look a summer paradise. In fact, locals in Yakutsk believe that winter is a better season than summer, becaues in summer, it becomes so muggy that the mosquitoes and gnats completely take over. Go find that video. *Visiting the coldest town in the world - Chilling Out | 60 Minutes Australia*
It would be surreal placing an order for food at that market: "I'll have two porpoise heads, three scoops of fish eyes and a pound of whale tails, please".
There were some really nice looking cod. The fish heads are for making chowders, though cod cheeks are a delicacy. The heads have the most flavor of the entire fish. I'm sure the video was edited so we didn't see endless rows of fish fillets, which many of us see every day in the grocery store. Of course, I live by an ocean.
Amazing. More amazing is the obvious lineage between these peoples and those on the other side of the Bering land bridge. The physical resemblance to peoples of some northern Japanese islands is not unnoticed by me.
