You're watching this video, there's a good chance that you either own this unit or you're considering purchasing this unit. If you have this unit, there's a good chance that you might be dealing with some issues involving oversaturation, high-end hiss, or unwanted low end frequencies. If you're considering buying this unit, don't let what you read on various groups scare you away. In this video, I'm going to show you how to dial out the high-end hiss and how to make the low end sound awesome and percussive and "real" with a couple button clicks and a couple knob twists.
If you're considering buying this unit, do yourself a favor and do it. Out of the box, some of the stock presets sound decent but if you're crafting your own patches, you might experience some high-end hiss issues and some low end frequency undesirable issues and this video is going to show you how to make that go away and make this thing sound as awesome as you want it to.
I am in no way endorsed or sponsored by NUX whatsoever. I'm the kind of person that appreciates awesome gear that delivers desired results at an affordable price and I feel like NUX hit out of the park with this unit, but you have to dive deep to find the goodness that it can provide. In this video, I'm going to show you a few quick tips on how to make that happen.

Helpful, thanks. The build quality and capabilities of this unit are fantastic. The documentation is awful, though, so this is a great video.

I did the same thing on my MG30. I agree that the MG30 can be hissy on highs and boomy. You can hear that especially, try using any of the compressor effect module. However, I did trim the gain on the Pre EQ until I get a bit natural of my pickups sound. Most multi effect has the tendency to sound compressed already. I guess it will depend on the output you will use ie...Line, Combo, Stack. Each output option has its own character. I have a Boss Gt100 that I no longer use. The MG30 is easier to tweak to get a good sound when starting to create your own patch from scratch as in no effects on. Mine I use the combo since that it the usual amp I usually used most of the time. Also, I already tried putting analog pedals on the send/return and it worked. I was surprised that I can still get good dynamics on my stomp boxes while plugged on the MG30. The Katana effect is a good surprise. May not be exactly as it is toe to toe with the real one, but it sounds great as boost and can clean up the sound nicely. IMHO, this MG30 beats the pants of Boss GT100 easily. The OD/Distortions effects are miles better than any of the Boss GT100.

i use the quick tone software rather than go thru the front panel , but yeah . i set my input minus 12 db and i trim off a bit of high end . never noticed issue with the low end tho , but the extra eq is nice to have. i have played the mg30 thru a lot of different set ups but never thru a guitar amp or a headrush .

Tony! Thanks so much for this. I REALLY dig my MG-30. But as I’ve gotten into developing my own patches, had trouble with fizz, hiss, and buzz. I run my MG-30 through a Fender FR-10 cab. I have the hiss issue with ANY patches; mostly set up for clean with some edge of breakup for scene three. The MG-30 also seems to sound REALLY thin. I’ve reset my output mode to Studio Direct, amp is set for a twin reverb. Effects are compression, and room reverb, for scene 1. Scene 2, I add in a bit of analog delay, a bit of Katana boost, and some times tremolo (for Motown-style sound). Any suggestions for getting a more full/robust sound with out hiss, and without drifting into too much breakup?

Thanks for your great video, it’s very informative! I have a question, how do you record your guitar with the MG-30? I mean directly, with a combo and mic, or just a DI signal. I have NUX PA-50 monitor, which sounds decent with my MG-30 presets. But recently I tried to record my guitar directly into the studio’s computer and it sounded terrible! Very hissy and sort of flat and plasticky. So at the end we decided just to record a DI signal, which makes me very sad because I put a lot of work into tuning my patches.

Tony, first thank you for posting this video and helpful info. If I may ask this, what tips do you have to make the most of the compression features within the mg30? I use a Strat into the main input of a physical Fender Concert amp. My output mode is set to front combo. I’m looking to add more life to my clean preset, which is sounding somewhat flat and lifeless right now. I do have compression signal block chosen and enabled. I have amp signal block disabled. I messed around disabling IR and testing with it on. I’d appreciate any advice you may have. Thanks again.

Hey bro, do you have any videos of what the unit sounds like with those EQ/ IR settings? I’ve been interested in getting one & I’ve found that the unit can do amazing things but I don’t like the high frequency fuzz sound that I hear in a lot of demo videos

Great video, but I got better results other way round - cut lows in pre eq and highs in output mode. Also i killed the trim 50%, it helped with the hiss cos my guitar Is pretty hot in the output.

Interesting. I’ve found global eq useful cutting hi when into amp but not so much frfr. But I do find I’m using eq fx on some patches, not all... do u use much eq and what sort of music r u playing?

I think the secret sauce in this box is the bias sim... they need to make that controllable via the pedal :)

wow, so this problem with the hiss is not only related to the nux mp3 pro, interesting. Peobably this is partly software issue

Hey, I know the feeling, I was also confused because there's no Gate button where all the signal buttons are. So what I found is that when you're looking at your preset screen where you see all the signal chain, single click on that rotating wheel above the Home button (the one he uses to go through the global settings). That will show you one of the elements on the signal chain (there will be a little arrow pointing down to whatever is currently selected). I think the same thing happens if you just long press one of the buttons of the signal chain, for example the amp button. Anyway, don't rotate that wheel, if you rotate it then you change whatever is currently selected (for example you select anther amp, if the amp is currently visible). Instead, push it to the left and you will see that that little arrow moves in that direction and now that element is shown above. So if you were on the amp, then you will move left to the EFX, then COMP, then WAH, then finally GATE. Now you can change the gate pedal and if you press the rotating wheel it will activate or de-activate it. It would have been much easier if they had included the gate button on the right as the rest of the elements, but well. They also forgot to add a button for the Send/Return element. Same thing you can do to select a different Wah pedal.

Hi. Can you do multiple output routing in MG30? Example Left output has amp + cab sim & Right output has no Cab sim? Thanks

The relatively less expensive dual processors don't quite have the horsepower to do this.

Does anybody know how this sounds compared to the Amp Academy? I know it's got effects and a pedal, etc. I mean the sound of the actual amp models? The Amp Academy has six different amp models and to me they sound very real but it would be nice to have a unit that does have more efx and a pedal and also has an on/off button so I don't have to keep plugging and unplugging it or have a separate surge protector connected.
