CES has featured self-driving car demos before but nothing like NVIDIA’s own self-driving car, affectionately known as BB8. More info at nvda.ws/2i2VRs4.
Donis Fernandes I think its because they realise technologically they have lost the gaming gpu market. Hopefully they will still be competitive say 3 years down the road.
Zer0 Gravity don't call people fanboys for saying things that have nothing to do with any kind of bias or company preference. I just research my shit, don't call me a fanboy for giving my opinion which is shared by quite a lot of other enthusiasts without bias. don't judge so quickly.
Zer0 Gravity because market share, doesnt mean having better cards. look at their marketing, look at their insane mind share. the average gamer doesn't even consider amd yet a few surveys show that enthusiasts do prefer amd. There have been many many times when amd simply had the better card, yet they never sold nearly as well as the nvidia cards. then you have autists shitting on amd when without them they would just be buttfucked by nvidia. in fact in some ways people already are to some degree. its just what happens when there is a lack of competition. not because amd products are bad, but because noone wants to buy them. amd however have driven the industry in a direction that traps nvidia and intel between a rock and a hard place (its really quite genius what they have done) and they bet on it too early, but now is the time for amd to come back. I would bet on it.
Amazing how this systems are developing! I'm really excited when I think of a future where people gets into the car, tells him where they want to go and just chill. And when they arrive, they just get off and the car parks alone (and looks for a place) and picks you up when you're ready. Simply amazing!
Nice to see NVIDIA is expanding its reach to many technologies now. I thrive to become part of the autonomous car revolution myself. (I don't usually comment, but this is for reasons...)
Love the fact that you guys are giving back to your fans! I personally want that Gtx 1080, but luck to all of you! I am looking forward to what you guys plan on in the future!
I'm cheering for you! I think Nvidia is a fantastic company. However in the video at 0:57 and 1:27, those are what I consider to be lane changes that I would never do. BB8 lane changed into a lane with another car that was driving noticeably faster behind it. The other car would of had to apply the brakes in response to the lane change. I want autonomous vehicles to succeed sooner than later. Self-driving cars need to be significantly better than the best human drivers in order to be successful. Keep up the great work! I've been keeping close track of what you've been doing and it's great to see the amount of progress you have made in such a short amount of time!
LOVE seeing all the new integration your guys are having with the Shield. I've been watching it grow so much in its development. Seriously so stoked to steam with such convenience, and with so many of the services I already have. Keep integrating and being awesome Nvidia and we'll keep supporting you!!
Having worked in the automotive industry, self driving cars is something that a lot of effort is being put into. The road map to level 5 autonomy is surprisingly aggressive and these demos show how far the tech has advanced already.
This looks amazing as the technology gets better and better. This just had me think self driving would also be a great thing to market to seniors and senior apartments. I think about my mother who has mobility issues and others in her senior apartment complex. This could be something senior complexes might invest in - perhaps in a minivan type that allows for a group outting to various cultural places or just regular doc visits or to the grocery store. It could also restore some independence to seniors as well who may be fine physically but whose eyesight might be poor esp in the evening. This opens doors to help many others beside just those that are fully abled and looking for the next best thing...but has the great potential to create connection, abundance and joy.
Even though I reserved a Tesla Model 3, this looks pretty darn awesome! :-) I don't like telling the vehicle "disengage auto-pilot". I like the idea of just taking the wheel or hitting a pedal because it takes much more time to speak to the vehicle and have it understand.
Jon Summers it doesn't matter if you're distracted because you're not the one driving. it can save lives because there will be no human error. for example, if you are drunk then you wont dangerously drive home if you have an autopilot
When is something like this going to be commercially available? Are you working with manufactures or will this be a add on with a monthly service fee or something like that?
WOW!! What CAN'T you guys do!?! I'm in awe!! This, to me, came out of nowhere, but looks just as good as if it's been out for years!! Can't wait to see what kinds of things come out in the next few years with Nvidia; you guys are amazing!!
I'll be sold when it can make a left turn by itself in heavy rain. Can it handle slick roads or when traffic lights lose power? Potholes? Flooded streets? Florida?
Amazing that this is the first I'm hearing about this technology you have!! It seems so far along and yet such a secret until now. I can't wait to see what you guys will come out with in the next few years, because you've clearly got a lot of awesome ideas hidden away.
If nVidia were to release a self driving car, will there be multiple variations of the model, much like their graphics cards. i.e the 1080 version will be great and have flashing lights but the 1050 3GB will be weak and have less capability.
Well then, my guess is the system won't be the only thing to crash (get it)? I mean it's probably very stable, but if it crashes, it crashes... Sure, I suppose some logic could be written in to have it reboot or something but if it hard core crashes...AND the driver is asleep, he probably won't that mistake twice.
Could happen. But I believe that all of the platforms nvidia sells for fully self driving cars like this are fully redundant. Here is the board that this car uses for its self driving. Looks like two of the same board I'd guess for fail safe if one crashes or has a hardware issue while driving. images.nvidia.com/content/tegra/automotive/images/2016/solutions/drive-px2-2top.png
Is video labelling comes under data scientist role? Is this video labelling experience help us to get plenty of opportunities or enter to technical jobs? From video labelling can we get any technical jobs? What is this exactly? Can this related to artificial intelligence? If anyone know please reply?
Nvidia is definitely going to be a major player in the AutoMo markets. I'm glad they're focusing on this too. WIn-win for me as an AMD investor since their focused on a market AMD isn't really competing in yet.
GTX 1080 competition here or the other channel (which ever it is i'm in!) As for what I am looking forward to this year well although self-driving cars look cool new GPU would be better...
This is pretty impressive. I hope you guys do something similar to Google, and blog some of the unique encounters and what the AI is seeing during them.
I would love that 1080 as 2017 is the year I want to leave gaming on the mac and the struggles it brings and move on to building my own PC dedicating to gaming so I can leave my mac to just do my design stuff! Wanna help me out GeForce ;)
If its raining or snowing then the GPS will probably outweigh the camera or it will alert the driver to take control. Cars already know the roads blind, its just avoiding another Car and stopping for traffic lights. Prob need some kind of wiper for the camera tho
I would love to see this one day, it's entrusting the in a few years we have seen tech that grandparents would have dreamed about. Oh and I love the name BB8 XD
I was watching this and thinking "Hey, this place looks familiar". And then I realized that the video actually starts 3 blocks from my house, gets onto my nearby freeway, and drives to the Starbucks where I went every day during my first summer job.
