Classic stuff. NWA World Wide Wrestling used to come on at 2pm on channel 17 here in the Philly market and I would look so forward to it. It was the polar opposite of the WWF's cartoonish programming at that time.
1985 WOW ! Freshman year of high school and Oh How I wish I could go back and do it all over again. I absolutely would not miss NWA wrestling for nothing I would be glued to the chair until it was over .
Yeah, he loved doing that right in the middle of something real good. Guess it was the way to get you to buy the pay per views or tickets to live shows. As a kid it always made me mad as hell LOL
ECW shares a lot of that blame. Now instead of suspending their disbelief and losing themselves in the moment, wrestling fans are smark marks who chant like they're watching Rocky Horror.
I remember watching this in late 85 along with a friend. Here in Philly, JCP used to be on Saturday's at 2pm on channel 17. This stuff was the real deal!
I remember watching this when i was 12 and being pissed off when it cut off the main event early in typical nwa fashion. However, the whole card was good. This was around when the nwa was doing there best business selling out house shows everywhere.
NWA owned by the Crocketts at that time had a very bad habit of showing main event matches at the closing of the program. When everyone was enjoying the match, the closing credits go up and we hear: "David! We're out of time!" They should have shown highlights in the next show. But this showed the true spirit of the NWA. All old school pro wrestling over the sports entertainment crap WWE is known for. Bring back that trend into today's world. Because I miss it.
I was about 5yrs old when this aired on WVEC 13 in VA. My Dad recorded this show for me on a Beta VCR! The bunkhouse @ the end was a shocker because I always heard of 'em but I knew they were gonna cut it short! I thought my old video had surfaced, but I remember a WVEC 13 logo flash @ the bottom. Regular tv not on cable!
Hi, I been a fan of wrestling for a long time, I used to watch Bobo Brazil Wrestle live, and this is still head and shoulder above that crap that WWE or WWF whatever they are calling themselves they days
They use to make me sick with this. They always show the good match towards the end of the show. Unfortunately, the viewers at home couldn't wirness the outcome but this is still great action.
What I want to know is, this was cut. They couldn't have just stopped the cameras from rolling. Do they still have the rest of the footage in the vaults?!?! If so, why not release it? Imagine the money they could make with a dvd titled "unseen NWA footage: Released from the vaults"!
+Patrick Simmons Acutally...it was the $500,000 the boot was supposed to hold that they are fighting over. :) I was in rapture when i watched this at 12 years old on TBS. I miss the the Old NWA.
As a kid, I lived on this stuff! Wrestling today sucks and is all pyro and a big damn soap opera. It is a shame it will never be as good as this again. This one match has it all! Including the broadcast ending just when it was getting real good. That was a NWA specialty! Ending the broadcast when something really cool was happening haha I was one mad 14 year old when they didn't show the end of this!
This was right after Starrcade '85, just before the 4 Horsemen were formed. At that time, JJ Dillon was still managing Black Bart & Buddy Landell. If you notice at 0:48 Tully grabs JJ from behind while Dusty deals on him.
I remember how disappointed I was at this. We were flat broke when I was a kid, didn't have cable, and these Stampedes were always Pay Per View type events (whatever they called it back then). I honestly thought I was going to see something really cool. Instead I discovered that I had been baited to buy a product that I literally couldn't get. But I'm not bitter. Oh not at all.
Victor Waters no todays real wrestling fans of this generation is a lost art. not todays whining self entitled asshole piece of shit wrestling fans on the this internet.
David: "Magnum looks like he's got combat boots on." Pretty sure those are motorcycle boots, Dave. Did you forget Magnum's gimmick was a bad ass biker?
one of two matches I would love to see return... The Bunkhouse Stampedes and Wouldnt Survivoir Series be sweet fought under WAR GAMES rules... it fits like Peas and Carrots... lol
You would think one person in that audience would comment on this upload on RU-vid. You would think one person that was there would say something nobody says anything. Somebody is still alive LOL that was their speak up and say something.
The bunkhouse matches were always better than the royal rumbles. Bunkhouse match all participants start in the ring at the same time so that no one had an advantage if they came in later after everyone was exhausted. Royal rumble starts with 2 then every 2-5 minutes a new person enters. By the time the last participant enters most of the others are either exhausted or eliminated. Bunkhouse tests your endurance to see if you can go through tell the end with everyone starting at the same time. Yes it’s all scripted and entertaining, but bunkhouse hands down anytime
What are used to piss me off is when I used to watch the wrestling 605 on Saturdays whenever they showed a great main event like this they never showed it to his conclusion they only showed the first five minutes or so then they had to go I mean for fucks sake us to take Joe they could show you the whole damn match I mean, come on!!!!! Got used to piss me off every Sat. Night
I love reading comments. You get to see how much the fans truly don't know. Dusty hoggs all the glory. Dusty wins the Bunkhouse match. Dusty got all the title matches against Flair. etc... etc.. Magnum TA hogged the glory. December 7, 1985 Cleveland, OH - Bunkhouse Stampede Magnum TA won a Bunkhouse Stampede December 8, 1985 Atlanta, GA - Omni - Bunkhouse Stampede Magnum TA won bunkhouse stampede December 9, 1985 Greenwood, SC - TV Tapings - Bunkhouse Stampede 20 man Bunkhoue Stampede December 12, 1985 Norfolk, VA - Bunkhouse Stampede Magnum TA won the Bunkhouse Stampede December 13, 1985 Richmond, VA - Bunkhouse Stampede Magnum TA won the Bunkhouse Stampede Match December 14, 1985 Fayetteville, NC - Bunkhouse Stampede 20 man Bunkhouse Stampede December 15, 1985 Greensboro, NC - 2 TV Tapings - Bunkhouse Stampede Dusty Rhodes won a Bunkhouse Stampede December 21, 1985 Atlanta, GA - Omni Magnum TA won a 20-man Bunkhouse Battle Royal
Dusty put himself over? People need to quit going by nonsense & gossip and check facts. So lets see all these title matches Rhodes had. This video is from 1985, so lets stick to the year of 1985. Dusty Rhodes - 15 tittle matches. - Wow he booked himself over every body. NOT!!!! Magnum TA - 28 title matches. Wahoo McDaniels - 34 title matches
Hold on a second, the booking in that era as in ANY territory prior to national tv syndication, put over the most pushed talent. besides Dusty and Magnum TA were the very top 2 babyfaces . The heels usually beat up and injured the babyfaces on tv to draw the crowds off tv in the arenas. Not saying Dusty did not push himself too much or worse latch on to hot acts like Rock N Roll express & Road Warriors.
I was too young to realize how they were manipulating me. It was a TAPED show. You don't run out of time on a pre-taped show! Just edit out the jobber matches.
That's because the business was set up for the House show, they couldn't make any money on TV in those days that's why TV was all squash matches. They wanted the people to pay for the live show when it came to town. It wasn't bullshit, It was the way they did business then.
