Thanks you so much Adam! I love that you built an acrylic banana to show us how they work. You are so helpful for those of us new to the sport. Wish i lived in Seattle to come slack with a larger community. There's not much of one here in Hawaii.
At what length line do you want to move away from the primitive setup of carabiners and line lockers to the more advanced setup that you describe here?
Thanks Adam for your input! Yeah, I have the Lynx which I have rigged 400' lines no problem. I was deciding between the AWL 2.2 and the Zilla for longer lines and for the main on my highline rigging. I just purchased the AWL's last week... Love the videos Adam! If your ever in Florida or if I make my way up there some time, love to get together!
I have not used it personally, but it is well regarded and the Landcruising boys certainly know what they are doing. I would trust either the Lynx or Zilla for rigging my lines with no hesitation. Either would be a great option (depending on webbing type one might be more appropriate) for a European slackliner (for Americans the import cost might not make sense ... then again maybe it would).
Some of those line lockers may need another biner, just to get the offset right, meaning when tensioned the main line would have a tendency to be rated 90° off level. Adding another biner or shackle would cute that. Also with the "banana with the quick pin" (I forgot the name) you have the make sure the "dead end" (the end of the webbing) is underneath, when you dress it out. It'd be obvious, but a tip none the less. Thanks for the vid!
Correct. The Alpine WebLock (and similar devices) cradle the webbing such that no sleeve (etc) is needed to protect it. They also work with more than just nylon webbing (shackles should be used for nylon only).
I first played with this in March 2009 (link posted on my site in the article for this video) but decided it was too sketchy because nothing is holding the locking pin in place. Also, the pin/roller diameter is a big issue for static webbings, so that is another consideration (I would use a 25mm or bigger pin). If not used for highlining and it has some retension cord or tape or wire, it should be fine though. :)
And how about Q - lock method? (/watch?v=BzyAreY1r5I) it looks kind elegant and simple. The way the webbing folds over itself seems just as good or even better than in banana shaped devices and shackle+ring linelocker... There might be, IMHO, some issues with metal parts working against each other. Just wonder what is your opinion :-) Greeetings!
