That was Mike Bloomberg and his Little Hats. After Giuliani Bloomberg decided to make New York a playground for the rich. Giuliani New York was affordable and had a real middle class.
@BoomBoomSly I called bs on Giuliani being the one who pushed out the middle class. He made New York a lot safer and more livable he didn't alter neighborhoods that were for working class people into places for the ultra rich. Bloomberg did that.
@BoomBoomSly The Soho and Nolita area used to be Little Italy. Yeah a big Italian American neighborhood in lower Manhattan. Bloomberg gentrified that area and forced them out. He replaced the area with artsy rich people who fund the DNC.
1983 and 1998. Those were the two times that I experienced The Big Apple. Like night and day. A once scary and trashy commercial desert was transforned (in twenty five years) into a friendly and mindful urban oasis! I ❤ NY.
Giuliani did drop the murder rate incredibly but to be fair dinkins last 2 years saw 2 consecutive years of drops in murders also Giuliani’s last year (2001) saw a noticeable uptick murders to 641. That was probably the peak of the Latin kings crips and bloods run in nyc when banging in plain sight was common. He did an incredible job against organized crime but street gangs rose in prominence during his era in particularly the super national ones. As much as we disliked DeBlasio because his last year in office saw a major uptick in murders and crime he was the first mayor to keep the murders below 300 for the first time since the 1940s I believe. And as bad as Adam’s is the worst mayor in modern history would most likely go to beame. The 70s was straight hell in nyc.
@BK_718 As a black man I can never respect Rudy. He turned The NYPD into a killing machine against the black community. Black men were getting shot like we were going out of style. Fuck Giuliani's time is coming. Hell awaits him
Rudy was correct - but he also got all the credit with lowering crime - when actually, a natural burn-out occurs when the worst offenders simply end up dead or in jail. The NY mafia was in free-fall starting in 92 - So many stars alligned. We are actually seeing the same thing today - SF, NYC and even Chicago A superspike of crime, then a slow/steady drop. Ebb & Flow
plz dont mention sf when it comes to crime ny and chciago crime cant even get that bad anymore its impossible all of nyc was bad now all of it is good chicago not like it was it died down in 2017 but its still little wars going on between gangs but nun like it was during 80s-90s and 2013-2016
He had some skeletons in the closet that was going to come out of he filed bankruptcy. Anyways, he’s going to be doing some time in Georgia for elections interference so the last thing he’s going to be worried about is paying creditors.
Koch was gone by then and Dinkins was mayor. Rudy Giuliani 1994 to 2001 came in to clean up the mess that democratic mayor's like John Lindsay 1966 to 1974 , Abraham Beam 1974 to 1977, Ed Koch 1978 to 1989 and David Dinkins 1990 to 1993 had left. NYC was a war zone. There are people who claim that NYC is worse now in 2024 then back in those days. They are clueless and need to watch this video.
