I got 2 visit NYC 4 the first time in my life in 2019; I loved it but didn't get 2 do all the things I wanted, so I was going 2 try heading back in 2020 4 July 4th... but the shutdown happened. I miss it dearly, so I'm hoping 2 maybe go back in a year or 2. The only thing is, I'm aware that many cities like Portland & Denver (& even Sacramento!) are having problems similar 2 my home town San Francisco, & we all know what a dangerous disaster SF is at the moment. 😢 It's such a dangerous mess that no 1 visits it anymore. So I'm hoping nothing like those problems has been happening out in NYC? How are things there? (I also ask because I've been worried about all the wonderful New Yorkers I met out there since the shutdown - I hope everyone's alright!)
I got 2 experience NYC 4 the first time in 2019 at Christmas time, & it is absolutely enchanting. ;) 1 of the special things I learned there - I once heard about this & was please 2 see it's generally true - is just how friendly most New Yorkers tend 2 be by nature. Oh sure, they'll of course defend themselves if someone's a jerk 2 them, but they're mostly really wonderful 2 visitors. This is especially true because they have a really strong sense of community due 2 the city being so compact. & when you're indoors & visiting with staff in stores & places U visit, U'll see how their faces light up when they hear that you've come all the way out there just 2 see them, they love hearing about how much U enjoy & appreciate their city. 😊 When I was there, many of the street corners were decorated with giant Christmas tree bulbs & toys, it was so precious seeing How lovingly they decorated their city. I never personally had any problems visiting there, I only ran into 2 bad apples who were grouches. 😂 Everyone else was just terrific. 1 funny thing was that as I complimented people I met, people who obviously never knew each other, they all answered with the exact same worded answer: "That's good 2 hear, 'cause we get a bad rap." Turns out a lot of people take Hollywood movies about NYC much 2 seriously. 1 of the most common misunderstandings I was told was that, not being a motorist town (not enough car space), just about everybody uses the public transportation, so everyone does tend 2 understandably walk very fast as they all need 2 get 2 where they're going - & would U believe some visitors get offended by this because they misunderstand & think, "They're being snobs"? When I was told that, I said, "That ridiculous - I have 2 use public transportation myself, & I understand well how 1 has 2 rush around 2 use it." Obviously such visitors don't use public transportation very much!😮 Anyway, Christmas is a really special time of year 2 see NYC, there's so much 2 see & enjoy. A truly special city.😊
