/ jordankamer Step by Step Guide to Setup a DOE-issued iPad during COVID/remote/blended learning.
I have been setting up iPads and helping parents with them throughout remote learning. Now that we're back at school, I have been able to set them up when we get iPad deliveries before issuing them to parents. I have also been able to fix broken iPads families bring to the school.
There is still a lot of confusion around the iPads and tech issues. I will make videos and help anyone with questions; whether you be a student, parent, educator, etc.
Feel free to reach out on Twitter for more info as well! #TechForGood

You are very welcome, Barbara :) I'm going to keep making simple step-by-steps as issues arise. Just made one for increased parental controls today that our families were requesting!

Just be VERY careful. The newer iPads may have an eSim card instead of a physical sim card. Then at around 6, the prompt changes, and if you press the wrong option for the 2nd erase, you may erase the cellular data plan, too!

I just got a shipment of new iPads that I'm going to setup and distribute. I'll test this out tomorrow to see what it looks like. Thanks for the info! I had a computer technician stop by the school today from DIIT and spoke to another via email who both confirmed the video should work as long as you follow the steps exactly as I show it in the video :)

Hey thanks for this-have you run into any issues with the newer iPads that don’t have SIM cards?

Hi Aliza. Not yet. I've run into PUK/Locked sims and with those, we have to refer them to DIIT. I'm trying to come up with simple solutions that we can do to free up DIIT and that families can do themselves. Whenever I encounter a new issue I am going to record how I resolve it and break it down into a simple step-by-step for people to follow :) What kind of issues are you experiencing with the new iPads that don't have physical sim cards?

Hi Folks- there's a huge gap that you haven't discussed in this video, these devices check in ever 8 hrs, by erasing all content and setting you're forcing the device to check in, If you're a spoc you should've gone into the MDM and sync'd your device, that would've avoided you having to Erase all content and Settings.

This is directly from the Getting Started with Your iPad NYC DOE site. It's a video guide to make it easier than reading through the guide. This video is intended for people who are not tech savvy to quickly fix their own device. I have parents who have been waiting since the summer for repairs and this video has resolved their issues. Below is copy and pasted off the DOE's site: Erase all content and settings If you have tried all the above troubleshooting steps and still cannot connect your iPad to the internet, you can try to reset your iPad by erasing all content and settings. Important: do not erase your data plan. Here’s how to do this: Open the Settings app. Tap General, located on the left hand side of the Settings menu. Tap Reset. Tap Erase All Content and Settings. Allow your iPad to reset. After you have erased all content and settings Once your iPad is reset, you will be prompted to set it up again. When following the prompts: Select your language and country (you must select the United States). Choose Set up Manually. Select a WiFi network (if you don’t have WiFi, scroll to the bottom of the list and tap Use Cellular Connection). Give the iPad a few minutes to activate and configure. The screen will say Remote Management. When this happens, tap Next in the upper right corner. You will see a message saying Installing Configuration from the NYC Department of Education. Allow 30-40 minutes for all applications to download and refresh. Test your internet connection by going to www.schools.nyc.gov.

@@kamertechy6425 Hi Techy. I am aware, I'm having the verbiage and instructions changed as circumstances have changed.
