NYC Is Full and Sinking

Add "rising ocean levels" to the list of New Yorkers' concerns, because the city is sinking, a new study finds. The study says that New York City is literally sinking under its own weight. “We can’t sit around and wait for a critical threshold of sea level rise to occur, because waiting could mean we would be missing out on taking anticipatory action and preparedness measures,” said Andrew Kruczkiewicz, a senior researcher at Columbia University’s Climate School. Inside Edition Digital’s Stephanie Officer has more.

What’s crazy to me is that NYC is one of the largest cities in the world, but it’s all located on a tiny part of New York State.
@itzamia
@itzamia Год назад
@ALLY S It's not that crazy. New York was and still is a major port city, and it's proximity to Europe, mainly London and Paris back in the 1800's helped it grow. Both the East River and Hudson surrounding Manhattan island gave quick access for trading and fishing ports. As the city started growing so did the boroughs. It's crazy you can fit millions of people on that small little island, but there's a reason they call it the concrete jungle.

Also, By building denser cities you take waaay less space, New York is absolutely the biggest American city in terms of Population But it doesn't even make the Top 10 biggest American cities by land area That's because the never ending and sprawling suburbs take up a massive plots of land unnecessarily And that's truly what's horrible for the environment

The problem is that Society in general is way too preoccupied with stuff going on in _their own_ lives, and _only_ their own lives. Most people could not care less about stuff thats not directly related to themselves, their family, their livelihoods, their belongings/property, their friends, their pets. If this issue was never brought to the publics attention, then New Yorkers could literally live there forever and only start to evacuate when a part of the city actually collapses. Thats why issues like poverty global warming pollution etc arent receiving much attention. People need to wake up and actually see and learn about what the hell is going on _around_ them, _outside_ of their usual concerns and preoccupations.
