A New York City man died after being stabbed in a fight that stemmed from not receiving a thank you when he held a door open for the suspect at a smoke shop. The two started fighting in the shop and moved outside where the victim was stabbed in the abdomen and neck before the suspect escaped on an e-bike. WNBC's Adam Harding.

The idea is if you are going to expect others to say thanks to you, you might as well don't bother doing anything at all. So, when you do something, it is a gift that you give because it is right to do so, then you have done your bit to earn respect to be on the planet, you are not part of the problem. If the person, animal that you helped want to show appreciation and you thrive on it, better for you. I personally PREFER them to say nothing as I would then have to reply something, which I don't care one bit to do, I actually don't do it for them, as I explained. I do it so I am a giver and not a taker. A part of the solution and not the problem.

While it is nice to hear "thank you" after doing a person a favor, that should NEVER be a motivation for doing a good deed. @@KyleReeseCel2029 I don't even consider holding a door open to be a 'good deed'. It's simply just not as rude as letting it shut when others are directly behind me. This guy was full of negativity and no amount of thanking him would fix him. The real victim in this case is completely right. He didn't ask for the door to be held, and may have even preferred it not be. Men's views on other men door holding can be a little funky. So why thank someone for something you did not ask for and may have not wanted to begin with? While your theory that being thanked would lead to more good deed doing isn't wrong, it's not up to strangers to motivate YOU to continue to do good. That's not their job. That's up to you and to expect it of others is pure entitled foolishness. Dentatus is correct, if you can feel satisfaction for doing a good deed by itself without the thanks, THAT is their motivation to continue doing good, not a thank you. Just doing what is right is enough.

I always taught my children that you cannot escalate an argument into a physical altercation and expect to know how the other person will react. If you put your hands on someone, you may think "oh well, I only pushed them, so they should only push me back" but it doesn't work that way. You don't get to control that. So, if you escalate from verbal to physical, right or wrong, you have to be prepared for them to react with escalation too. The "victim" started the verbal argument, escalated it with a punch without being touched first, and then continued to be the aggressor outside. Everything he did put himself in danger of a deadly fight breaking out and he got exactly what the potential worst case scenario was

Like others have commented, the "victim" looks like the attacker. We only see a partial clip of them fighting in the store, but it didn't look like the guy with the knife was trying to use the knife. Then when the guy with the knife is clearly trying to leave, you see the other guy punch at him while he is on his bike. I don't know what the laws are there, but I would be hard-pressed to convict him of murder or even man slaughter. I am also unclear who started the fight. Again, I believe it was the so called "victim".
