Hey, GREAT detailed video. Should get many more likes. Question: I missed registering for BUSES or FERRY....Can one be DROPPED off in Staten island. Will that be too painful?
@coachkrisrs
@coachkrisrs 6 дней назад
You can be dropped off in SI yes. However the Verrazano bridge and the NJ expressway close to traffic at 7am sharp. Meaning you have to be on SI before 7am if coming by car. That is typically earlier than most people want to arrive but it is up to you. You can always visit the race solutions desk at the expo when you pick up your bib and they will help you find a transportation option, if you decide you want to go with the ferry or bus.

Thank you so much for sharing! This is my first time running NYC and my second marathon. The pace band info was great! I have it ready to go for race day (: is it possible to PR on this course?That is my goal!
@coachkrisrs
@coachkrisrs 11 месяцев назад
Setting a PR is definitely possible. It would depend in large part on your training, that's pretty much true for every race. This course is slower than a flatter course (800+ft of climbing) all other things being equal: temps, humidity, wind, fueling, hydration, etc. But as we runners know there are few occasions when all other things are equal. So in essence yes lots of possibilities exist.

Hi Coach Kris, I’m scheduled for the 5:30am Midtown bus which goes directly to Staten Island. What time do you suggest I get to the line? Is 5am early enough? Great video, I learned a lot.
@coachkrisrs
@coachkrisrs 11 месяцев назад
For the midtown bus you can simply arrive at 5:30 to the library/bryant park. I would try for a firm 5:30 though, google maps will give you an approximate travel time from wherever you're starting. There will be a small wait to board and depart but you'll still be in one of the first groups to reach Fort Wadsworth.

The upper level is more dramatic that's for sure. But it's such a big exciting race overall and those beginning miles are only a small part.
@copperdan7667
@copperdan7667 11 месяцев назад
For a pace band would you recommend a conservative start and even effort or a conservative start and negative split?
@coachkrisrs
@coachkrisrs 11 месяцев назад
Most runners would benefit from the negative split approach here. The 2nd half of the race is tough and if you've overextended early it's a costly mistake you can't take back. Those Brooklyn/Queens miles between the bridges are flat and are REALLY easy to cruise. The first 3 miles in Manhattan (part 1) on 1st Ave plus the 1 mile in the Bronx are easy but that's about it! Seriously. It's just stacked heavily towards harder later, so really holding back until you're past 16 is good.
@copperdan7667
@copperdan7667 11 месяцев назад
@@coachkrisrs thank you. I will go with that. Im so glad I watched your video as I had no idea in how bad the hills were. I did many hill repeats on this training block so we shall see if im ready
@coachkrisrs
@coachkrisrs 11 месяцев назад
@@copperdan7667 hill repeats will pay off for sure! Each of the climbs on their own are fine. It's just the cumulative effect of them stacked up one after another. But strong legs and wise runners prevail! 🙂
@jillcanning
@jillcanning 11 месяцев назад
One more quick question! If I want to take your recommendation and bring a thin blanket or something to sit/lay on, does it need to fit in my clear bag? Thanks!
@coachkrisrs
@coachkrisrs 11 месяцев назад
If you’re wearing something like a blanket then it’s fine to bring but not have inside the clear bag. When you get to security just have the blanket draped over your shoulders, they’ll wand you and/or pat you down but it’s fine to have blankets/towels/tons of layers on.

i do not have a transportation method . in my dashboard. which i forgot. but the library bus would be my most convenient option. would i be able to just get on the bus?
@coachkrisrs
@coachkrisrs 11 месяцев назад
The volunteers do check the bib at the midtown bus so I recommend going to runner services at the expo when you get your bib and talk to them. I would hate for you to be turned away. Not every volunteer checks every single person but you don't want to be surprised very early on race morning.
@mandyparrialeblanc
@mandyparrialeblanc 11 месяцев назад
Can I take the ferry if I chose the bus option?
@coachkrisrs
@coachkrisrs 11 месяцев назад
You should go to runner's services at the expo to make a change to your transportation option. They will tell you if it's possible or not. Sometimes it is and sometimes not. I would not suggest just doing whatever you want without talking to nyrr. Several reasons for that: safety, security, protocol for all. Have a great race!

Sorry not easy too follow. When I ran the NYC Marathon. we were taken round the course in a coach. The day before the race, there was a blizzard, I was just over nine stone and blown around in the wind. At the end I had severe cramp, and I was rescued by a kind lady, who got me into a first aid tent. I still have my medal, my certificate and a John Hancock flannel. The hard surface was a killer on my ankles.
