Welcome to NYC! I would suggest, for safety reasons, you get a fire department approved gate on the fire escape window. People have been robbed and assaulted by folks entering through those windows.
You have a fire escape, there have been cases where people have been assaulted and robbed by people climbing up through the fire escape and in through the window. It's happened in my building. You do need a safety gate, just to be safe, better safe than sorry.
1. gate for the fire escape window! 2. possibly a curtain for the closet so it looks more put together :) 3. curtains for your windows because people are pervs lol
I was going to suggest that too. Only “issue” I could see is she’s right, when she has to turn on that heater; that is going to get hot and her landlord (or building person) May have warned them to keep stuff away from it when winter comes.
NICE!!! I hope that y’all cleaned/disinfected the apartment before getting settled in. Also, keep in mind that the train station entry shot gives away what neighborhood y’all live in.
I like how realistic and practical this video was. Please do a moving/rent series relating to budgeting, landlords, rental contracts, what to bring, what to pack etc.
Just a tip, if you put the round mirror on the wall where the dresser is you would get even more natural light! Because it would directly reflect the light coming from the windows xx
move your dresser to between the windows, and your nightstand on the left side of your bed... then you'd have the whole wall beside your closet for a vanity/makeup spot
Girl you should get the ziploc space bags for items like sweaters and scarves that you won’t be wearing for a few months! Life savers, they just vacuum down and you can slide them under your bed
Even just a white floating shelf under your circular mirror for your mini vanity would have been perfect and minimalistic but I hope the bar cart works! :)
I know! Someone should tell her, those outside stairs are in case of fire. They will be able to escape a fire, very important. I grew up in NYC's Chelsea that's a common elements found in older apartment buildings. She sounds very naive, NYC can be very dangerous but when you are in new city everything is exciting. Best of luck to her, wishing her wealth (because NYC is very expensive to live in), health and happiness.
Put the mirror at a hight you can use to put on your makeup while sitting on the white furry bench. Then get a shelf and hang under the mirror to store your makeup on. Home made vanity
Switch the standing mirror with the dresser so you have the window light reflecting off the mirror. It creates a brighter and more “open” environment! :)
Your apartment looks great congrats!! You could get a vanity/desk floating shelf from Ikea. It has drawers too which is a big bonus. Hang it beneath your round mirror and add a stool which you can push underneath when you're not using it ❤
You’re literally my role model and I aspire to be you when I grow up , love the apartment and hope to move from South Africa to nyc one day . Can’t wait to see the fully furnished apartment and can’t wait for all the daily vlogs in NYC ,so happy for you girl and I hope you enjoy it and make the most out of it 💕
Aww it turned out sooo cutee. I'd definitely recommend adding string lights because it adds an extra homey feel. I love fairy lights so much :) you could even add them around your full length mirror
That issue with the exposed radiator and make up are...we had a similar problem...we simply went to a plce like Home Depot and bought ceramic tiles which we were able to put together as a "top" which could be used for storage or any use. If you want to spend a bit more, get a marble top custom cu- just a slab cut to lay over the top of the radiator...it allows for the heat to escape into the room and the top to be useful counter space and make up "bench".
Can you film a video on how to find an apartment in NYC? as well as how you are adjusting there! I have never lived there but I have also considered! I just want to weigh the pros and cons of moving to NY!
Hi Natalie, congratulations for moving into your dream city! I also live in NY and became very creative at building storage and not making my space feels cluttered. Use two wall shelving units for your makeup. All the best to you for this new chapter:)
You should get a cover for your heater and consider moving the skinny dresser to the wall by the heater if it fits to get more space. In addition, for safety reasons you should make sure you window is secure since your by the fire escape, but should get an extra lock for your front door to be more secure. You should also get like a curtain to cover your closet and probably a shoe rack to organize more your shoes. For your makeup, probably a small vanity can work.
you guys can share the entrance storage and put all your shoes there, if not all shoes keep the heels and few boots up on the shelf above the one you kept your skirts at and put the go-to shoes and boots in the shelves of the storage at the entrance
I think you could put the cleaning supplies in the kitchen since you have a lot of storage space there so you can have a little bit more space in the bathroom! The apartment is really cute and actually a decent size 😍
When you’re going to hang the mirror just use or get a set of drawers from ikea, and use that as you vanity area. You can store your makeup/facial stuff in them.
Ik I’m probably late but I think you should get one of those pull out desks for your vanity and put it next to your dresser it would be a nice way of saving space but it’ll still look nice
Put the dresser between the windows it will look nice under the mirror also get a pretty curtain to cover the closet ❤️❤️❤️❤️ a long plant will look so nice on the shelf above the closet
I am moving to NYC in couple months. So I have been watching all the RU-vid videos I can find about people moving there and their experience. The rent is ridiculously high and I have no friends there. So........I'm really stressed but everyone looks so happy to be there
MAKE UP SPOT IDEA: buy a shelf from target or any store that u like and mount it underneath the circled mirror and put us it as ur makeup vanity. Some shelves come with two drawers, which i think u can find in ikea and this will be great for some extra storage for ur makeup. xx love u nat
put the dresser between the two wiindows, the mirror between the bed and closet and on the other wall beside the closet get a mini vanity!! and you’ll have a cute background for pics too!!!
I was gonna say you should put plants on that one top shelf you want to avoid, but watering would be hard! So you should get like 5 pretty fake plants to put across the top, it would look so cute!!
Congratulations on your move! I like your set up in the apartment so far! Have fun and stay safe in New York! Looking forward to watching your next video
Where you said you were gona put the mirror get one of those skinny console table & use it as a vanity table as its facing the light so you can see to do your makeup better. So you can display your makeup and other cute things without sacrificing too much space. Or you can get that Algot 3 tier storage and it has wheels it's really good to store makeup a d and its small
Ikea has those tables you can fold up on to the wall when not in use. So you could always do that and just get a small storage solution to store your makeup in. Like a cute little ottoman you could set below. And then when you fold it up it’s not too cramped but it’s practical ! Hope that makes sense
You can use a floating shelf, a round mirror and a small puff as vanity on the side os the dresser instead of the chair. If you put the dresser between the mirror, as some poeple are saying, the circulation will be compromised.
I know I'm like a year late lol but I'm so happy and proud of you!! Be safe and have an amazing day! It's my dream to move to NYC in the future and I've been watching videos and it's so amazing so see people reaching this dream!
i think you should put your bed under your ac on the wall with windows i think it would give you more space to move around and would open the space up more for your desire and mirror
Payton Acheson I don’t think her room has that much space. If she moves the bed it looks like it would touch the heater and when the winter comes she won’t be able to use it or have her night stand in front of it
You can get a ladder desk that leans against the wall by your dresser, some of them are small enough to fit in that space. A DIY one using the bench and a mirror would be cool too!
Move the sneakers underneath your bed move the five drawer dresser by the closet against the wall next to your bed and then put a small vanity with a cube seat(with storage) where the dresser originally was... also I would take those sweaters or whatever it was that you had in the last drawer of the 5 drawer dresser and put them at the top of your closet that way you can put your underwear and bras in that drawer
Cut a piece of wood to fit, stain it cute, attach it to the wall with hinges so you can fold it down when you are not using it and fold it up when you are! Stool that can slide under and when your not using it will just be a little sitting stool.
I think you should put your night stand on the left side of your bed and put your vanity on the right side (maybe scooting the bed over a teeny bit). Having your vanity next to the window will provide some amazing food natural light and you could also sit on that side for filming.
if u get a clothing rack u should move your dresser in ur closet and put ur coats and jackets in ur closet and ur tanks, jeans, tops on ur clothing rack and have the vanity where the chair and dresser is!
You could put your big dresser in the corner over by the window on a kitty corner angle move the night table on the other side of your bed, then that wall is freed up for a small vanity or a nice floating shelf.
I would suggest putting a small vanity between the two windows and moving that circular mirror down to use as your vanity mirror. To save space you can use like an ottoman as a chair and store it underneath the vanity when you are not using it. You should also get some natural lighting if you place your vanity there.
You can move your bed in front of the window, it will make your room look so big then you can buy these tables from Ikea the small ones for your makeup 👍🏻
Out the dresser where the shoes are shoes on the other side of the bed so u can fit the vanity put a rack infront of the bed next to the mirror for hanging u should be fine the rest is gorge or store ur coats up top on that extra storage get a stepping stool that way u don’t need the rack
I would put the dresser with all the drawers on the other side between the windows. I would put the night table on the other side of the bed. The coat rack she is getting I would put where she has her night table. I would put a little caddy for her to roll towards her bed when she needs to do her makeup. I would suggest getting a safety gate for the fireplace window for safety reasons. Enjoy NY!!!
Wow . I used to live in New York and my apartment was huge . Huge kitchen and good size bathroom along with three spacious bedrooms and two hallways. It definitely depends where in New York you move to so no, not all New York apartments are tiny . Lol . But that is what you get in most of the apartments in Manhattan close to the city I guess. In the Bronx is where I used to live and that is where you will find the older more spacious apartment buildings. I miss my old apartment so much. Enjoy NYC!! :)
Natalie! I have such a great idea for your room, first of all paint the walls to add a pop of color (with a color of your choice) then move the drawer to the other side between the windows, then add a cute small vanity with lights on the mirror where the drawer was and add a cute vanity chair or stool! then you can add shelves to the wall and hang up your shoes on the shelves, would be fantastic than having them scattered on the floor. for paintings on the wall, i like the ones you have up but maybe move the ones above your bed on top where the drawer will be then add a neon sign light (with a word/sentence of your choice) on top of your bed or add a massive artistic frame on top of your bed. you don't want the area in front of your bed to be that empty so you can add a small desk with a chair and store cute things on it. that's it for my idea, hope you liked it.
Hey! For your room, it may help to put the “vanity” next to your bed where you wanted the rack, and the rack Wynette your dresser is, and then move the dresser to the other side of the room under your round mirror. The bench and maybe a small acrylic table for your vanity would be super cute and it won’t take up a lot of space. Just thought of the layout I. My head lol
I would put that dresser on the other side of the wall between the two windows, move the night stand to the other side of the bed to provide balance within the room. Also it would leave room for a small vanity next to the closet.
