Ever wonder where to eat in New York City's Chinatown? Well, I think I have found a great spot to go eat, which you may want to check out on your next visit to Chinatown. It's none other than the 2022 James Beard America's Classic Award Winner, NYCs Chinatown Go-To Chinese Restaurant Wo Hop Restaurant
Wo Hop is one of NYC's Chinatown oldest restaurants, they have been open since 1938 and are now under its third generation of ownership they are known for fast and casual dining where they serve "old fashioned" Chop Suey style food.
Wo Hop is located at 17 Mott Street, and the restaurant provides indoor and outdoor seating. As you will see in this video we opted to sit inside in the basement. Check out how my experience went down.
Enjoy and thanks for watching!

Went to wo hop one time 3:00 in the morning as I was walking downstairs. It was one guy walking up a guy in the middle with sunglasses on and another guy behind him. Well the guy in the middle has sunglasses on and happens to be Joseph feliciano. That's stairway. Coming up is very steep. Anyway, it's a great time meeting. Jose and I go there all the time to Wo Hop !!!!!!!!

My friends and I would eat there when we were in college. That was almost 60 years ago! Not much seems to have changed, except the prices. Those even look like the same plates we had back then.

It's amazing to hear that you and your friends used to eat at the same place almost 60 years ago! It's always nostalgic to revisit places that hold special memories. While it may seem like not much has changed, it's not uncommon for some restaurants to maintain their traditional style and keep certain elements, like the plates, consistent over the years. However, it's interesting to note that prices have changed, reflecting the economic shifts over time. It's a testament to the enduring popularity of the restaurant that it has managed to maintain its charm and attract customers for so many years.

@@Marlon_Torres As an example, a plate of Roast Pork Chow Fun was $1 back then. Now, that might sound really cheap today, but remember that the minimum wage back then was also a dollar. And this was back when a subway token was 15 cents, and not $2.90. We ate there because it was one of the better places in Chinatown, and was reasonably priced. The food looks the same, the waiters look just as busy, and even the chairs and tables look very similar to my recollection. What has changed are the walls. There were no autographed photos or signed dollar bills on display. But they did have vertical strips of paper with Chinese writing on them taped to the walls. A Chinese friend told me that those were the "specials" that weren't on the printed menu.

Bro here in Panama we don't wait for our Chinese food tho too pricy for my taste rather have Marco Polo or Mr Chen

Keep in mind it's NYC, the most expensive city in the US. Marco Polo? My go to in PTY is Sunly in El Dorado, but it's pricy too. Also, prefiero Rest. Martha ahi mismo en Villa Caceres que Marco Polo blood. jeje

If you ever return to Wo Hop for another experience, let me know and I can offer a different selection of dishes that is authentic Chinese and not American-Chinese influenced dishes. 😊

What do you recommend? I’m gonna go there in November.

I love good quality authentic Chinese food. However I usually don’t fully recommend it unless if the person is a food enthusiast. Most people in the general public are only interested in Americanized Chinese food and in their minds, Americanized Chinese food is the definition of what Asian food should taste like. So it may be hard for them to accept authentic foods especially for older generation non Chinese people

Que cholada...solamente se puede pagar en efectivo. Classy joint - not! No hombre, no Marlon...tu sabes que la comida china en Panama es mucho mejor. Estoy alegre que disfrutaron del restaurante sin enbargo. Paz. 🇵🇦
