This is literally a scam. They aren't controlled by NYC Housing but they are controlled by private developers who ask for more personal information, they run credit checks, and put you through the run around. You have to know someone, be physically disabled, have children, be elderly, or shows signs of a mental disability.
This is literally not true, you do not have to have any illness or mental illnesses to live in these buildings. It’s a lottery, anyone can apply as long as their income matches the buildings requirements. There are buildings being built in BK and the city that require a salary of $95,000 a year or higher. You people only say this once you start seeing minorities benefit.
I would rather depend on the market than on any of these lotteries, but the regulatory climate in New York City is so bad that it discourages new development, plus landlords being forced to tolerate squatters for years at a time also hurts housing inventory.
Well right now I am taking HPD to court because they do not want to give me a 2 bedroom apt under reasonable accommodations. It is going to be a year now, but I am fighting them hard. They are violating my rights under a protected class. Also their website is currently not set up if you need another bedroom for medical equipment and when the marketing agent gets to your application they are under the assumption that you do not need that extra space. I am happy for all of those that win the lottery. My son and his wife won an apt, however, they are discriminating against my physical disability.
What’s the real catch on how to win the lottery? I’ve applied over 6 years ago uploaded documents everything they asked & still haven’t heard anything. It’s like they’ll either give it to migrants or people or families in the shelter first for some reason
