Not sure if you mean they belong to NYPD ESU, if thats what you're trying to say then no... NYPD just host the training. Once, lets say, a Port Authority officers passes he/she will go and join the Port Authority Emergency Service Unit... pay rate is different, they respond to different calls etc.
@@andrewvasquez8963 NYPD IS THE FIRST AND OLDEST WITH THE EXPERIENCE TO TRAIN MANY OTHER DEPTS. HARD TO TRAIN FOR ONE DISCIPLINE WHEN YOUR THE ONLY EMERGENCY SERVICE /SWAT UNIT TO DO IT ALL. FDNY HANDLES BUILDINGS FOR THE MOST PART.
I never understood why the NYPD has a single unit for both SWAT-type missions and rescues. Being that it is a huge department why not have a unit specialized only in SWAT for the NYPD and a special rescue unit for the FDNY?
Back in the 70s FDNY was overwhelmed with housing fires to respond to other emergencies, hence why ESU was given rescue duties. Now it was no longer the case but the role as a rescue unit has already stuck with ESU.
ESU does have its own "SWAT-only" unit called the Apprehension Tactical Team and they do strictly high risk warrants and emergencies from what I've been able to find
