Nyssa's Not Just a Pretty Face

Hi all, I'm back!
It's strange, but I never really noticed Nyssa until I was watching Arc of Infinity the other day and noticed how badass she is. Then I found this song, and the two just went together. A little bit of (almost) entirely unintentional Doctor/Nyssa shipping snuck in there, too (if I wasn't such an avid 5/Turlough shipper they'd be by OTP) so enjoy!

I was very sorry that, in the show, Nyssa never really got her chance to shine, she always faded into the background somehow. However when Big Finnish started producing audio adventures about the fifth Doctor she finally had her chance, she became a solo companion and faced the Daleks, Cybermen and several other classic enemies as well living through many adventures with the fifth Doctor and was even involved in a romantic relationship with a character called Andrew in the story Circular Time. It really was good to see Nyssa get her time in the sun even if it came a little late.

In the few documentaries I have seen, the 5th Doctors Era struggled a lot with the companions. Adric was essentially killed off because the actor couldnt.. .act to the level they wanted.

Nyssa was a brilliant companion to the Doctor. Beautiful, Intelligent, Calm and Resourceful.

Nyssa was lovely all round and I had a crush on her. However she was practical, intelligent and calm.

This comment is a breath of fresh air. The fact she's beautiful isn't treated as her only personality trait. A lot of other comments about female companions treat them like dolls. Thank you!

I love this video, and have done so for a long time XD I don't think I've commented the video before, so I'm doing it now. You Did A BRILLIANT Job! Nyssa is, by far, my favorite 5 companion, and one of my absolute favorites in Classic Who, alongside Mel, Sarah Jane and Leela. As you said, she's badass. And while I, myself, am an avid 5/Nyssa shipper, the fact that the shipping you snuck in was 'unintentional' doesn't bother me :D It was a great video! I applaud you!

Yes, Nyssa was useful. Tegan, by contrast… Well, she did kill a Cyberman in Earthshock, and in Logopolis she held up a sheet of figures for the Doctor with the efficiency of a music stand (“Leave it to me!”) but otherwise she alternated between stating the obvious and missing the obvious.
