Kitty Hawk is a town in North Carolina where the Wright brothers flew an airplane for the first time. YIMBY is Yes In My BackYard. Basically, the opposite of NIMBY.
I had to look up scansion too. It seems to describe looking along a line of verse to see how the syllables need stressing to make it flow, but English was never my best subject !
I smiled when you said 'At least in my head there are multiple spellings of that word.' 😊. When someone says to me, 'How do you spell (something)?' I always reply, 'Well, I spell it xxxxx.' After all, that is what they wanted to know. ☺️☺️☺️
Solid Wordle solve, unlucky S-O-E trap. I played a filler to eliminate a lot of consonants and was left with a 50/50 which I lost: AROSE, CLINT, SPOKE, SMOKE. Excellent Connections. I got blue and yellow but was lost with green and puprple. Kitty Hawk is a beach town in North Carolina where the Wright Brothers from Dayton, Ohio flew the first airplane in 1903; except they were technically outside the town limits, in a place that would later become the town of Kill Devil Hills (which is almost completely flat except a small hill). Great Mini. 51 seconds for me. Good Strands. This was not easy. X-ray is not an acceptable word because it has a hyphen. Slow for me. I thought I learned enough poetry theory in college but I had never heard of SCANSION. But that was the only pronouncable word that could be made with the remaining letters. Ultra perfect solve though, starting with the spangram, no hints, no misclicks.
The word "epee" isn't quite exclusive to crosswords; I tried out fencing as a hobby in high school, and it was one of the things they explained the first day. It's a crossword thing is two ways, though: it's not used anywhere else besides the sport, and crosswords pretty much never use either of the other two styles of fencing. There are some crossword words that are kind of esoteric jargon within one particular field, and "epee" is at least super common in its field.
Had to take a hint for strands. It was "literally" a way for words... The Mini was a bit confusing but it worked at the end. Can never win in connections. 😔
Yeah, it was and that threw me. I couldn't get CHEWY out of my mind, where i order my cat food on-line, given that it was next to CAT. I still had a perfect solve because I let light blue settle to the bottom and become my default solve. I still didn't make the connection, I couldn't describe it. Had Is seen CHEWIE as it was supposed to be spelled, I think I would have had a better chance. The other 3 categories I easily got.
Please learn the proper pronunciation of EPEE for my sanity 😂 No one calls Boba Fett BOBA, familiarly, lol. But I still appreciated the Star Wars category. I was familiar with NIMBY, not in my back yard, but didn’t think of its opposite. My English MA came in handy for Strands :)
They are fixtures of many summer camps for kids in the US. "Bug juice" is just a fun way to describe the juice being served, usually something like Kool-Aid. "Color wars" are where the kids are split into teams and they wear a shirt with the color of their team, like "red team" and "yellow team" etc. They then participate in various competitions to gain points for their team.
Wordle 1,189 4/6 ⬜🟨⬜⬜🟩 ROUTE 🟩⬜⬜⬜⬜ SNAIL ⬜⬜🟩🟨⬜ CHOMP 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 SMOKE After 2 guesses, I thought of (in order): SCOPE, SPOKE, SMOKE, and SHOVE I used a strategic 3rd guess (CHOMP) to test all 4 words. Current Streak = 969
