Traditionally, because comic books had changing creative teams, and a constant influx of new readership, this led to the creation of Multiverses to explain different, contradictory stories with the same characters. With the animated feature “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse,” the launching on TV of the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with “WandaVison” and “Loki,” and the upcoming “Flash” movie, our current generation of storytellers have used the Multiverse concept to reimagine reboots of franchises and recasting of familiar characters as an asset that deepens the audience’s enjoyment of every movie they’ve seen with those concepts and expands the tools we have as creators to deepen story and emotionally move the audience in ways that have never been possible before.
James Felder started his career in editorial at Marvel Comics, working on titles such as The Incredible Hulk, Ghost Rider, and Daredevil. While there, he started the company’s first writers’ training program, “The Stan-Hattan Project.” In animation he’s written for Disney XD, Cartoon Network, and FoxKids on shows such as “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” “Spider-Man Unlimited,” “Ben-10,” and “Generator Rex.” He most recently wrote “Monkey King: The Journey Begins,” an animated feature currently in post-production. He teaches TV and Screenplay classes in the Department of Dramatic Writing at Tisch, where he is Area Head of Episodic.
